If true, I'll be disappointed if yet another WA talent chooses to leave their side and move to Vic instead of home. Surely someone who has never lived in Melb (Pickett, O'Meara) can't claim he wants a trade to Vic for the lifestyle? It's gotta be the sales pitch of Carlton/Hawthorn?

It's also mindboggling how many Vic clubs are managing to convince GC & GWS kids to use the homesickness excuse to request a trade, while none seem to be wanting to come back to WA (except McCarthy who is suffering a genuine mental health issue)?

What gives?
Maybe in this case the Silvagni connection.

Nobody was game to take on Martin. GWS gave him a full tour of their facilities, then decided they weren't interested. That's a team that hasn't been afraid to recruit troublemakers - look at Heath Shaw and to a lesser extent Stevie J. Must have been something pretty major going on behind the scenes.
It was the fact martin could not stop talking about his team mates and his love for dimma during the interview with sos and leon.

Was openly reported as such. Nothing else behind the scenes then a manager trying to up his client price but stuffing it up

Will be seriously pissed off if Pickett goes to Carlton, and I would hope the AFL would do something about the Silvagni issue. That would make it something like 7 or 8 ex-GWS players going to Carlton which is extremely fishy. And yeah I understand that a few of them were cheap spuds

the afl won't as they are a big Melbourne club and they want them to do well. Only If the media make a big stink about it which is pretty unlikely

Changing subject

On talking footy they seemed quite convinced that Collingwood were offering Chris maybe $2m over 4 years which despite its obvious stupidity also means that Fremantle will end up with a 2nd round compo pick which would be pick 22

For Chris ******* Mayne
They have a panel now that looks at compensation , not all compensation relates to Salary value with some emphasis on true ability now . Really up to the discretion of the panel on his worrh not totally salary based .

Ps I think Pavlich just joined the panel !!

What crap.
AFL wants the big Melb clubs to do well.
AFL wants the expansion teams to do well.
AFL wants Sydney & Brisbane to do well.
AFL wants the struggling Vic teams to do well.

They want everyone to do well except the WCE, right?

It is annoying that these GC/GWS blokes aren't looking to come home, but at the same time we've done alright with a few WA blokes wanting to come back (Yeo, Wellers, Jetta), problem is they haven't hugely improved the team.

Fact is it'd still cost us a fair bit to get a Pickett, Swallow, JOM to come home and to be honest I'm not overly keen on those 3 given they've played a combined 6 games over 2 years!

We've also shown interest in Hogan who may look to come home, as well as keeping an eye out for what McCarthey wants to do.

Coniglio is one of the best GWS mids and is on the cusp of about 5 premierships, he'd be silly to leave.

Meanwhile we retain players better than just about any club, outside of Judd (who we got an amazing trade deal for) who else has requested a trade home due to homesickness and who's been a best 22?

Last year was probably the first year we've managed to attract a genuine B22 player (at the time) in Redden who had no connection to the state.

So I don't believe in this whole "woe is me, the AFL is out to get us" attitude.
Sure we could do with an extra bit of help financially to attract talent, but at the same time we retain talent just fine and attract players when the time arises.

I think we've been substandard in our drafting personally. It is a shame that we can attract WA talent to come home, but I understand why a lot of these guys don't want to come back.

When you consider our history with second round picks, we've blown many an opportunity to get best 22 players through that means. The latest trend of trading our first rounder has also been hit and miss. I hope we get it right this year. That means making tough decisions on our list, trading players of greater worth to other clubs than our own regardless of sentimental reasons and then drafting to our needs.

Hope Lamb stays, once he is settled and on good money we might see his best then.... this is my hope anyway.
His attitude stinks. He better make a complete transformation in the offseason or his time at WC will be short.

I'm with you cuz. Been tracking him at GWS since he was drafted and i honestly think he'd be gettable right now.

Insert mandatory ("he's exactly the sort of player we need bro" here)

Have read the GWS board about pickett. They say he's lazy.

Knowing our board at trade time the Lamb drafting will be a hangable offence, while Pickett will be a must get because he is not vanilla.

I've watched Tom at East Perth a lot.
Just my opinion, but to me he seems really hard on himself and if he makes an error he drops his head. I've sat behind the interchange bench and senior players like Wulffy and Johnson were often patting him on the back and talking to him to help him. I think he needs some help to believe in himself and to acknowledge that a mistake is not the end of the world.
I hope he stays and proves his doubters wrong.
