Syd=Franklin...yes there was COLA
Syd=Tippett....yes there was COLA
GC=Ablett
Carlton=Judd
Pies=Treloar
Gee=Dangerfield

Just a few purchased players
Franklin - FA that took a massively risky 9 year deal that may yet have longer term repercussions and also brought a premature end to COLA
Tippett - wouldn't have been possible without COLA
Ablett- part of the suns start up concessions. No trade required and a contract no other club in the AFL could match
Judd - cost Carlton picks 3 and 20 and a fella named Kennedy you may have heard of. Went to Carlton because he wanted to return home
Treloar - wanted to go back to Melbourne. Cost Collingwood their 1st round draft picks for this year and last so two potentially very good players
Dangerfield - wanted to go home to Geelong and was a restricted FA so the first and second round picks it cost the cats last year was at a discount to his true value.

Saying they were simply purchased players is disingenuous but not surprising coming from you

Over the all the talk about trading darling, people are really only focusing on his couple of bad games. On a whole he did have a pretty good year and he's still young and getting better.
Lobb Is who we need this off season, im sure all the talk about hogan is to just remind fremantle their not the only ones chasing the WA boys and will hopefully make things easier getting lobb.
I don't have a problem with trading Darling depending on what we get back. I think out of our top 10 or so most valuable players he's the only one who we could most easily cover for and would have a high value around the league. I don't want to trade any of Kennedy, Barrass, McGovern, Lycett, Shuey or Nic Nat. That leaves say Priddis (who's too old to trade), Gaff and Darling. Gaff just signed a contract extension so he's unlikely to be traded, which leaves Darling as our only trade-able currency (besides picks) if we want to make a move for an A-grader.

Just signed a new deal with GWS, we would be paying through the nose.
Yeah. I know. He's the one we really need(ed).

We've all been saying the same thing for years now. We need a genuine elite mid. I know it's not easy and I know there's always a million reasons why things can't be done, but the fact is we haven't had a genuine elite mid since Judd, Cuz, Kerr and that is an indictment on the club. On drafting, trading and development.

We've been outstanding on developing talls, particularly in defence, but just haven't been able to translate that into midfielders. It's become a significant trend.

We just havent been pro active enough. Many times we just trot out the "what we have is good enough we just need to work harder...we need to improve...we need more contributors in the middle"....but as we all know that was clutching at straws.
Did wce management forcibly pursue A grade mids before this trade period??

Is there any truth to the rumour floating around that darling isn't happy at the club? I did find it on Facebook.. So take it with a grain of salt, but just wanted to ask if anyone here has heard anything that might back it up. Apparently an end of season review has him wanting to move clubs because he's only playing a support role to kennedy

Yep, O'Meara wants to go to Melbourne, Coniglio re-signed with GWS. Martin comes out of contract next year.

But which guns should we be buying this year after getting rid of our crap?

If he does want to move I doubt that would be the reason, he's not big enough to play anything other than 2nd/3rd tall. There's a thread about him moving to Essendon on the rumours board though.

WUUBLY DUUBLY and Pat_Footy Do you guys agree with anything the club does? Or are we stuck back in the 90's? On one hand you say we're a nepotistic organisation and on the other you want one of the old boys, Sumich, to be coach.
You ask why have we interviewed Petrie, do you know for a fact that we have? Or do you believe what you hear in the media?
I don't mind who the head coach is as long as they have good line coaches surrounding them. Simpsons appears to be a good leader although he has surrounded himself with junior coaches. Surely Cox shouldn't be in such a senior position this early. I'd like to see some more seniority in the coaches assisting Simpson.

The WCE recruiter came out and spoke about Petrie. That was on 6PR and on the website I believe. I don't believe he confirmed they were actively seeking him but he put it on the radar.

He was asked a question about Petrie and said they were looking at all options to bolster the ruck division, and he was one option.

O'Meara - following his dick to Melbourne and has the knees of a 40 year old
Coniglio - is happy in Sydney and why wouldn't he be
Martin - been discussed but off field issues were a concern following cousins and now he would want to travel regularly to NZ to see his old man which is problematic

All of those don't take into account what the respective clubs would request in a trade
