Lewis Jetta is a real enigma for me he is like the Pakistan Cricket team........which one is going to turn up for the ODI....... the one that is 2 for 165 after 30 overs or the one that is 4 for 32 after 7 overs with two run outs.

Jetta at his best is exquisite........... however we don't see it enough.

Watching the clip above (post 1620) its apparent that when in full flight Jetta is worth a first rounder and....... some.

But that is countered by the lazy seagull we watched this year , WC V SYD at Domain Stadium, late in the game, when he often stood 30 meters on his lonesome at the Sydney 50 meter arc , whilst every one else was gathered around the contest, yes the occasional quick kick into the Swans forward line and Jetta ran in and got a couple of cheap junk time goals. Now when you add his " No Shows " in the Swans finals this season there is serious consideration for doubt. That says pass on the trading in of Jetta.

Part of my dilemma in warming to the acquisition of Jetta is two fold.

Firstly are we going to see the Jetta ( as seen in the clip above ) chasing and running down Dangerfield and making Cyril Rioli look pedestrian or are we going to see the seagull that goes missing in big matches, as was evident in this years final series. The much praised Eagles Web comes seriously unstuck if Jetta wont chase and apply defensive pressure ( and lets be honest here neither of these traits are a strong facets of his game ), because if he doesn't do these thing, or play his role in the web, then Jetta becomes the "trap door" through which you can bust open the web.

Secondly I am concerned with the implications that come from the school of thought that Jetta can be excused from his poor showing in this years finals series because he had already checked out of Sydney and his mind was diverted from the job at hand. Ummm..... that to me is a sign of mental softness and lack of a care factor, maybe harsh but thats how I see it. Taking this a step forward;is the mental softness and lack of care factor going to have implications to Jetta's application going forward at WC. Or in more blunt terminology. Does he and will he have, the passion and determination to put in the hard yards and help West Coast hoist a fourth cup ......or and I hate to say this however it is a concern for me ...is Jetta coming home to be with his family in a more comfortable environment and gladly picking up a top up to his retirement fund.

These two concern keep nagging away at the back of my head.

The hungry , focused and hard working explosive Jetta I want.

The seagull that may just go through the motions .... I would pass on.

Bottom line is that what I think makes SFA difference as the West Coast hierarchy are the ones that make that call....lets just hope they don'T f*** it up.
Massive props for a novel size pertitent post!

I think you are reading a little too much into it. How would you have rated the WC players based on just the NM and Hawks games?

A lot of those very same criticisms could leveled at our players.

I actually like to look at the year as a whole because while it's important to bring it in big games it is also important to bring it in little games that are also worth 4 points. That game against GC almost cost us top two and a home prelim and possibly a GF appearance.

On his H&A performance he was a match for Gaff and Shuey. Very consistent and effective.

Just posting my concerns.

The contributions to little games comment has some validity.

However weighted focus on the little games is the same thinking that brings Lyons game plan unstuck.

Yes the little games as a collective matter, however if the same forces that contribute to the little games don't stand up in the big games it counts for squat.

Front runners excel in "little games"..... where as "big games" are what define a player.

Having said that a team can afford one front runner in the team ,.....but two....... is one too many.

Err... Jetta's inconsistency is a direct byproduct of his one dimensional playing style and is a result of how the game is being played and how much space he can get to be effective.

Which is why i've advocated playing him as a forward where he has to lead up and then turn back on goals. This would allow him to generate his own space but only though hard work. I don't want him as a wing man where he'll either front run or alternatively sit wide and too negative of the contested ball and fail to generate any dangerous overlap.

Jetta is a laid back guy, but given the body of evidence that Jetta has built up. Attitude has little effect on the facts. He hates contested ball and doesn't accumulate big numbers. He can't defend and his offensive abilities should be better utilized in a position where they're the most productive.

Jetta was what now?

Gaff made AA and jetta was nowhere near it so to say his H&A performance was a match for gaff is a joke

Jetta was pretty disappointing this year and wasn't close to gaff and shuey in 2015

All i know is a few people in this thread owe Godfather32 a BJ if Sinclair does end up leaving.

Can't wait to collect my own if we manage to land Minson :) Especially from Keyser. False teeth optional.
The mrs will be happy, she'll get a break.
Who am I kidding, I'm married, lucky to get one on my birthday.

From someone that did tell him to shut up after 10 pages of it, I have given my kudos.

I'm really not interested in this draft pool at all. How would people feel about improving our position in next years pool when we will likely need to use our second rounder for waterman.

Sinkers + 36 + 38 for Jetta + 33 + Sydney's second rounder next year.
Don't expect Sydney to part with any draft picks.
They will need both first and second to secure Mills.

I'm not keen to trade Sinclair but if we do we need to look elsewhere at a club other than Sydney.

Look to GWS or GCS who have or will have multiple picks.

Our picks 36 and 37 are equivalent to GCS's pick 19 points wise. We need to be a bit creative this trade period or we will gain nothing in trade s or the draft.

why worry excessively Jetta will have some good games and some bad games Only the elite players have a small gap between their best and worst games .The rest of players have massive swings between good and bad performances take Kennedy ,Darling or Shuey,Naitanui where`s all the mental softness issues that don`t get thrown their way ..

My trade suggestion improves Sydney's draft position this year. They get 2 second rounder instead of one. Our second rounder gets a slight upgrade and we get a second rounder in a stronger draft pool next year.

Surely in the remote chance of securing pick 14 we would entertain the option of using it for Bennell?

Better yet, GC have pick 22 to bargain for which would be enough to secure Anderson if indeed we are after him.

There is a massive gulf between the swings in good games V bad games as opposed to rocking up and not even getting involved and making an effort.

Playing poorly is very different from showing zero effort.
Some times you can try hard and put in the effort and still play crap, I can accept that.
However if you rock up and don't put in the effort thats inexcusable.

Your not concerned about the apathy verses the production.
Well I am.

So lets agree to disagree.

Why worry excessively ?!

Because thats the difference between winning and losing.

That takes him til his 30. I want him, not on that coin though and the cost.

Saw a post earlier in this thread:

WC: jetta + pick 33
Sydney: Sinclair + 57

Would probably do that to be honest. I think Jetta is worth more then Sinclair, but we are going strong for a contracted player.

So I think we are getting shafted, but if that's what it took to get the deal over the line I'd do it.

I still think you win in a straight Jetta for Sinclair swap, but we would take that deal....

Ps. No way jetta and 14 will end up at WC. You can quote me on that.
Because we need ~1700 points to get Mills after the discount. Until you pay the debt, the next selection must be used.

Trading with a club like Essendon or Collingwood would allow us to get the full points for Mills with pick 14.

Then whatever picks we have left, we can use them in the draft.

Essentially pick 14 on the open market is worth to much to us to trade it.
Wait, so you would do Jetta + 33 for Sinclair + 57, and then trade 14 for 23 + 25 from Essendon? Assuming Essendon and WC would agree to that (which is a MASSIVE "if")..... you're left with picks 23 (815 points) + 25 (756) + 54 (220) + 57 (182) = 1973 points.

The proposal of Sinclair + 36, 37 and 57 for Jetta + 14 leaves you with picks 33 (563) + 36 (502) + 37 (483) + 54 (220) + 57 (182) = 1950 points.

So option 1 you would do, and option 2 is a definitive NO....when the actual difference between the two is 23 bidding points (equates to pick 72). Option 1 is dealing with two clubs, with no guarantee that either club will do those trades, option 2 is a two club trade that I think WC would definately accept.

I really like this, possibly even better than pick #14 this year. The biggest benefit to pick #14 however is not completely trading out of a year.

Had no problem in the topic being raised in fact had the discussion with my brother aftet the 1st final. My complaint was that our Don Corleone kept on saying the same thing over 10 pages. Got the point on page 1 or 2.
Oh and football is not that important to want to give you or Godfather a Brendan Goddardo_O
