Hopefully we just trade blokes out and load up on draft picks.
Surely we don't want to bottom out..can package player and picks to get a player or 2 and still go to the draft.
Wonder if we will rookie delisted players again, hasn't worked out overly well so far

Not sure what his current rookie contract status is but of the players that have been in the rookie or senior system for over a year, discounting Snadden and category B rookies Adamson and Brophy, I'd genuinely only want to keep Alec Waterman. A lot of untapped potential there whereas Colledge is tried and tested (wish he went to Richmond last year trade period), Tunbridge has been unlucky with injury but still hasn't done enough and Lucas well this last half of the year is career defining if uncontracted.

I agree only waterman and snadden should stay unless the doctors advise otherwise regarding waterman.
I'm assuming karpany and brown may play out their eagles careers on the rookie list tho

This is how i see it. We won't win a premiership till we fix up our midfield. By heading to the draft to pick inisde mids, we more than likely going to close our premiership window. ATM we Kennedy,Darling, Naitanui, mcgovern and Mackenzie as our spine. kennedy and Emac at Best has 3 years left in them where there playing like elite players (yes emac isnt playing at that level at the moment but he will reach his vintage form). I cant see us winning a premiership in the near future without a gun key forward and gun lockdown defender either. So i would like us to really go some A grade mids like tom mitchell and stephen coniglio over the years. mean time we can get rid of the dead wood.

I've always been a strong advocate for Brown and would hate to see him be delisted but effectively now with a season and a half behind him before he gets a shot in the AFL side (since injury) he will get a rude shock at how much the game has changed since August/ September 2014. Would get found out pretty quickly.

Karpany hasn't worked out anywhere near as much as what the clubs and we as fans hoped it would when drafted. Think we possibly reached a little to high in the draft to get him in and that was partially because of the uncertainty over Newman's future at the time.

Brown could be retained if schoey is traded
Karpany is useless but contracted

So Sam Powell Pepper was pretty dam good forWA . Would a top 10 pick be required ?

I think he will be in the 12 to 18 range at this stage, I certainly would not advocate trading down for him if he was to go in the top ten.
I think he will available for our pick however there may be better midfield options open to us.

Its certainly going to be interesting to see how we manage to improve our midfield options in this years draft.

So hard to lure established talent over to the west. I think we will have to develop through the draft so we might be a few years off challenging for top 4. Sad thing is we do not have a good track record in this area.

Tunbridge ****en gone
Bennell ****en gone
Lucas ****en gone
maginnity ****en gone
cavka retired
karpany rookie list
Brown to leave as FA
lamb asks for a trade

that 7 senior spots and 2 rookies to fill
let's get a genuine crumber and put some late bids in for academy kids or even go for some small mids who slide like Caleb Daniel

Would it kill us to get serious about finding a good small crumbing forwards. It's gettin so damn tiresome watching a grade small forwards like Betts and Rioli cut us to shreds every damn time...

Imagine a player of that calibre feeding off JK & JD's scraps... :(

I would trade McKenzie for Neale

Masten and a pick for Prestia

Neale - Prestia - Sheed - Shuey

Would be a good spread in the Midfield of player's that can play inside and outside and would make our midfield look alot more dangerous And before someone says something about their size i couldn't give a shit about that they hunt the ball tackle hard break lines. More than i can say for our 190 cm so called Bull.......

Not worried too much with Prestia kicking at this stage at least he can find some space in congestion and open the game up.

I know Neale is a free agent at the end of next year but we need to fix our Midfield as soon as possible Neale has a bit of mongrel in him and despite his size he's a strong good tackler and like prestia can find space in congestion

As for losing Mckenzie you have to lose good player's to gain good ones, Think Barrass and Brown would be able to cover him some what.

And hopefully not needed us much as hopefully adding these Midfielders would help keep presssure up the Field so more dirty ball getting in the back line

As for Masten don't let the door hit you on the way out. Waste of a 3rd pick you campaigner!!

Would consider trading Gaff for a top 10 pick to hopefully snare a player like Will Brodie

You just can't package players and trade in the type of quality that will make a difference to our midfield.

There are dozens and dozens of B grade inside mids in the comp that we could trade for - but we need players in that next rung up to make a difference. Otherwise we just end up with another Redden clogging up our team for another 5 years.

It's tempting but we'd be back at square one again after having put a solid 3 to 4 seasons of development into him and seen him grow into a very effective outside player.
He's still a B grader IMO and doesn't impact matches enough to make himself indispensible.

If we're going to pay him overs to stop him moving back to Melbourne, then that's just ****** for our list management

Possibly yes,2 first rounders would be great

3 would be better.

But we wouldn't get even 2.

Melbourne's pick plus a pick upgrade later. Gaff was a Melbourne supporter as a kid.

Gaff + Lamb for Saint Kildas first + Acres + steak knives. Gaff replaces Montagna, Lamb likend to Rievoldt type.

Trading our best mids isn't how we improve our midfield but if he asked to go you get the best you can.

Rather get rid of MAsten.

We are looking like having pick 9 or 10 ATM before academy shuffles.

Massive Andrew Gaff fan but i think the club should convince him that the best option for us and him is for him to go back home. then we can look for a top ten pick and possibly a second rounder. I hope they seriously throw money at tom mitchell, swallow and at prestia. Gaff may leave a massive hole on the outside but i think Masten, Jetta, Duggan, yeo and even a few totating inside mids in shuey and sheed could somewhat cover that hole for us. In the mean time we cannot afford to drop out of the top 8 as history has suggested it takes a while for a side to rise back up again (unless your geelong and u lure a top 5 mid).

A bit left field but why wouldn't we consider making a play for Sam Mitchell who, I believe, is a free agent this year.
We obviously need to fill up our list with midfield talent this draft and, at best, might end up with 2 first round and 2 second round picks. Problem is, unless we get real lucky, these kids will all take 2 to 3 seasons to come up to scratch.
We will not be able to entice any other ready made A grade midfielder to the club but with Mitchell we just might have a chance particularly with the Simpson connection.
We would probably get 2 decent seasons out of him and he would prove invaluable working with the young draftees fast tracking their educations.

Hawthorn has shown when you are in a window as we are then you trade for players not draft picks.
Draft picks are only hopefuls they don't guarantee anything, we need to trade for midfielders its that simple.
Bloody hard to do though.

We have so much dead wood who have had way more time. It's really only karpany 3rd season and his first was injury ruined .
True and we must give the promising kids a crack -thats cole and Barrios with Adamson perhaps at the moment with Sheed. If we loose ground a little it isn't an issue - there is no value finishing 8th - we either improve or move down a little, but those who don't lift us must go
