Re Essendon and Gaff
Straight Gaff for pick 1 and we probably have to give something back like our 2nd for Dons 3rd
We could also do a Lamb/Gaff combo whereby we get pick 1 and their third rounder. That would deliver us SPS and one of Goddard/Bolton/Banfield
Do I want SPS? Yes.
Is he compensation for Gaff? Yes but only at a last resort if the offer to go home was so big.
We are using Gaff in the centre and he is not delivering. We should play him and price him as an outside mid where he belongs.
What would pick1 and swapping picks mean with the draft? Seen a bit of the Colts and U18 carnival plus have mates in Melbourne that I communicate with so here is my take on the draft that might help shape what swaps mean (reality check - we still have a fair bit more of the carnival to go plus the Private school talent is often held back until 2H especially in Melbourne and the boys will all grow/mature a bit i,.e. nobody was talking Oliver this time last year)
2016 Draft Personal Views
1. Strong midfield talent this year that runs deep through to the end of third round. There will be Nelsons at 50 again this year.
2. Loads of academy talent and they have the talls and a number of first rounders so they be busy.
3. If you want talls you will need to go earlier than they are probably worth as they are scarce espcially forwards. Expect Strnadica, Goddard and English from WA as possibly early 2nd rounders and depends on 2H carnival and season may be called out earlier
4. Non academy currently speculated first round is pretty closely cropped meaning not a lot of difference between what you get at 6 through to 15 so you will need to have a real target in mind to buy in earlier in the draft
5. There are no obvious Weitering or Hogan franchise KPP's that would entice me to trade up. They might eventuate but cannot see them now.
