Crameri? Merret? Winderlich ? (if fit)
or we could have, you know, kept Monfries and he could have played the Monfries role.
Crameri plays like a KPP and will probably go to the dogs. Merrett's hands are poor. Winderlich plays more 1-30m out instead of 40-80m from goal

Why trade a guy about to enter his prime for a guy who's past his? Doesn't make sense
Well effectively were getting pick 3 for him, and we're adding a bit of a sweetener, NDS for our first pick,
In my opinion, we could get a really decent mid with pick 3, and, not to sure about NDS, weather he would suit what our club is trying to achieve,

I understand where your coming from but why trade for NDS when we could get him via free agency and not lose anything? Besides NDS only has 1 season maybe 2 left in him I'd rather get an up and coming mid in their 3rd or 4th year than one thats not far off retirement.

not into trading for fringe types full stop really, and Martin would be a fringe type.

Watson, Goddard, Stanton, Heppell, Hocking, Howlett, Melksham, Myers, Zaharakis is the midfield group currently, add in the progressing Hams, Kavanagh, Dalgleish and O'Brien, Ashby and the mid we may/may not draft in the first round this year and there would be no room for him. Only circumstance where it becomes viable is if the Pies can't afford to keep him/don't want to keep him and we can cop him for a 5th rounder or something.

Martin isn't a fringe player, I wouldn't want him because he likes the drugz and we have heaps at essendon :p

Anyhow it's laughable people are talking about Martin/Hanley and watts anyway. We couldn't hold onto Monfries last year and we might lose Crameri and TBC because they are being offered more money atm.

We also cleared out players last year who were earning good money (Dyson, Prismall, Lonergan to name a few) and the loss of Crameri may release enough cap pressure to sign one of them

Thinking it through a bit more...

Hille, NLM and Davis are gone. I think Jetta goes cheaply if someone wants him (and the Dogs supposedly do). One of Crameri or Gumbleton goes (because Gumby surely walks if Crameri stays). Pears probably goes, Bellchambers should go as I outlined above. That's seven off the list. Steinberg is the only rookie we can retain on that list, so he should stay. Dalgleish earns a senior spot, Dell probably does through sheer lack of alternatives. Hunter is gone. There's 5 spots + 3 rookie spots.

There's also enough cap space for a free agent of middle standing or a couple of middle standing trades.

Obvious focus points are a ruck along the lines of Jon Ceglar or Brent Renouf for very cheap, a rookie ruck (Sikora?), probably a young KPP at either end, then mids, mids, mids. Any top 25 picks outside of the incredibly unlikely pick 1 has to be a skilled midfielder.

I seriously doubt that we will allow T-Bell/Gumby/Pears to leave - Factor in Fletch's retirement and we lose 4 talls in one hit. This is unsustainable from a list point of view. I personally would let T-Bell go - JD/Gumby can fill the second ruck role as well as getting another ruck. Happy enough with pears to fill Fletch's role - We still have Gregory developing in the VFL team.

People must be joking about Jacks Watts - Forget the fact that he was a number one draft pick - he is flat out ordinary, and may have only 2 or 3 more years, on an AFL list.

He effectively has no role at AFL level - Doesn't have the strength or smarts to be a key forward, doesn't have the hands to be a leading forward, can't play a role in the midfield, and only plays as a loose man in defence, and usually has no impact on the contest.

And forget about Sylvia - Again a number 3 draft pick must be good - he is severely over-rated - And whilst we are discussing Melbourne - forgot about Blease/Strauss/Tapscott who aren't AFL standard. The one player I would consider is Howe - he could effectively play that lead up forward role - and act as the conduit between defence and attack.

Fine, I'm just telling you why he's only played 3 games for the Pies.
It was 4 but what evs :p

Averages 4.5 tackles a game at VFL level and 3.5 at AFL level. Pretty hard to work into defence when your essentially a forward pocket/flanker Ben.

He would knock Kommer out of our side, he would knock Jetta out of the side from the weekend, he would have played ahead of Nick O'Brien.
