You pick Boyd, or you trade for pick 2 IMO. No point paying for the best player in the draft and picking the second best.
which with current ladder positions as they are, leaves us with 'pick Boyd', Melbourne won't trade up because it's useless to them, they don't need Boyd.

Say the above trade goes through and we've got pick 1, ours (13ish) and pick 19 or 20, would you pass on Boyd for a mid knowing that there are a couple of KPF's more suited to our needs probably available at later stages?

How often does a co-spearhead setup work where both guys are 2 metres tall and their strength is their aerial marking? not withstanding a resting ruckman.

I'd be very tempted to pass on Boyd for Aish, and then draft a lead up forward and best available small with the next 2 picks. Very hard to pass on Boyd though.

Doesn't Keane do the draft nowadays? Anyway, Bellchambers + Pears for pick 1 looks more and more attractive. Get Boyd and laugh at having Salmon and Tredrea reincarnates in the forward line. Then trade for a Jessie White type.

Seriously though, Jessie White would be a handy get right now

Generally there is a big difference between A grade talents and B grade forward talents. Pick Boyd and you may get an A grade talent that you can pair with Daniher who is also an A grade talent. Develop them correctly and we might have a Lloyd / Lucas or a Franklin / Roughead situation on our hands.

We currently have one player - and only one player - who looks capable of having a 50 goal plus season. If we had the opportunity to have a second we would be silly to not take it. Midfielders really are a dime-a-dozen, you can find hugely talented ones that fill a need throughout the entire draft.

Cannot for the life of me understand the fascination with Jesse White. I'm not even sure he'd get a game at Essendon. Also not convinced that he is anything better than an inferior version of Gumby.

White is a freak athlete capable of ridiculous stuff at times, talent is definitely not an issue. Would be a handy addition as a 3rd ruckman should we keep tbc. I wouldn't trust him as 2nd in charge in the ruck, but as a 3rd ruckman purely for depth we could do much worse

Agree I've mentioned this before.

TBC + Pears or Hurley even (sorry Hurley I do like you but I rather a forward that can mark)

For pick 1
Take Pears out and I would do that, I think we need Pears long-term. Would rather gamble and get rid of Hurley before I get rid of Tayte Pears.

So Hurley, who can play forward or back (even if he is still learning the forward role) is worth less to you than Pears, who I like, but who has hardly gotten a gig this season in spite of not being injured? Please explain why you would cut?

You want the honest answer- he isn't as good as we all thought for starters. Carlile and Hooker are our key posts, Pears is your perfect running 3rd tall. Hurley I would classify as one of our talents but for the right price (namely Tom Boyd) he is worth giving away. I would do a Hurley + Our first for Boyd in a heartbeat. I would do TBC + Hurley + our first for Pick 1 + Taylor Adams.

Disagree, his wrists are horrible and I would trade him if we can't get a guarantee they'll ever be right again, but the only reason he is still capable of playing is because of how damn good he his.

See that is where I see it differently. If we take for a second that Carlile and Hooker are our CHB/FB's for the next 10 years..where does Hurley fit in. He is awful up forward. Sure blame his wrists, but he is ordinary up there. So where does he fit in? I wouldn't move two potential AA backmen just to fit Hurley in back there, so where does he fit?

That said for GWS who are crying out for defenders he is worth a LOT! We could easily get the pick 1 for him and our first rounder.

Go ask the Geelong board how awful Max Rooke was, cause essentially Hurley is a better version of him. In two and half quarters against St.kilda Hurley was involved in 13 goals, now say what you will about the quality of opposition but regardless of that I haven't seen another forward put up numbers like that this year.

The fact is, expectation is the problem, not performance. People expected him to be a star but now we have to reevaluate based on his body, what we have is a very intense competitive player in a forward line crying out for some hardness.

Pears is the perfect third defender/running third tall who can't beat a key position opponent to save himself and whose counter attacking forays tend to peter out into 15 meter sideways kicks? Amazing!

Pears' future is as a defensive utility. It doesn't mean that he can't be a best 22 player but the only guy he'd be able to squeeze out of the side is Baguley. He is so far from being a reliable tall defender it isn't funny. Hurley is comfortably the best defender at the club. His ability to beat an opponent, kick the ball long and accurately and his intensity on the lead make him twice as capable as Pears in any key defensive post I can imagine (and more versatile and suited to more opponents than Carlisle is).

Edit: there is also the reality that Hurley is still clearly the best key forward we have for the reasons mentioned by others above.

Jesse White wouldn't be a handy get for the reserves mate.

Seriously, we've got about 4 players on the list below 197cm and you want Jesse ******* White?

I'll take a stab in the dark:

Bellchambers: Will stay. Seems to want to, and we want him. If he goes you'd expect we'll get a decent pick for him though.
Browne: No idea on him. He obviously has talent and was rated, but hasn't done much this season and there have been rumors that he is going to another club. I'd like him to stay.
Colyer: Gone. Has had the chances and not done enough with them. Not unique enough to keep over our other options.
Crameri: If he gets a great deal it would be hard to say no. I think he will stay though.
Davey: One year deal at best. Given our forward options we might roll him over for another while we wait for Merrett and Kav to develop further.
Davis: Gone. Never got a debut. Never heard enough. Obviously not impressing. Some people are still hanging on to one pre-season game two years ago. Not enough.
Fletcher: Will go on.
Gumby: Possibly gone. Has been fit for the most part and just hasn't done enough this year. It all depend on who might want him. If another club offers a good deal he and the club will probably take it.
Hardingham: Will be delisted.
Hille: Will retire.
Hooker: Will get a new contract.
NLM: Will retire.
Melksham: New contract for sure.
NOB: Obviously rated and will stay.
Winderlich: Will get another year.

Del and Hunter will get removed from the rookie list. Steinberg will get another year. Dalgleish is too hard to say, I haven't seen enough.

How's Fasolo going with his foot injury?
When fit will he get a Guernsey a head of Elliot?
Hmm it's a good question, TBH I don't think many have heard anything about his recovery which is pretty disappointing. I guess his position all depends on who we acquire and who we lose. With Dids and krak unlikely to be around next year I would think he'd be a required player. Ultimately, I think he'll end up as a pretty decent wingman in a couple of years rather than just a forward.
