There's no hiding that taking our first pick or two from the ND is a BIG penalty but if we still have live picks in this years ND 3rd/4th round we really could still unearth some gems(perhaps mature age players from the VFL).

Separate to that perhaps our trading strategy this year for players that are looking a chance to leave (Gumbleton, Pears, Bellchambers, Crameri) is that instead of asking a 1st round for a player like Pears say we get two 2nd rounders which in return will give us flexibility to recruit multiple quality players in the draft and cover the retirements of possibly, Hille, Fletcher? , NLM, Davey .. Although I believe if our ND picks are taken we will keep a few of those looking to retire or be delisted

I would be shocked if Bellchambers or Crameri were anywhere near the trade table. Think they would be closer to the re-signing table if anything.

Lloyd was interviewed on AW, and stated that as of 2 weeks ago, no player is likely to leave, because of the supplements program.

He said that players could leave because of bigger offers/more opportunities etc - But nothing out of the ordinary.

Like I said in my last post

Elliot Kavanagh with a 3rd pre - season is like a 1st round draft pick, Joe Daniher with a 2nd pre season likewise..

Imagine we get a Dayle Garlett with our 3rd round draft pick and he comes out and DOMINATES next year?

ruddy lol's if that happens.

it's been proved wrong once, it'll be proved wrong again
I agree, why would he be unhappy, number 1 forward, gets a game everyday of the week he's fit, only way I could see he was unhappy is if he wanted to play defense instead of a forward role,

Not saying I want him to leave but, gws put pick one on the table for a more natural forward (Boyd), wouldn't knock it back. Plus Taylor Adams of course ;)

with the latest news in mind my thoughts are as follows.
Firstly I don't see picks as a necessary punishment, IMO they should be reserved for salary cap breaches and draft tampering, but here we are.

Secondly, we got the bargain of the century last year in Joe Daniher, as well as adding Goddard, we did well enough last year to mitigate basically all of the damage if we draft well, assuming it's just the one draft. 2 drafts makes it harder but by all means not impossible.

We've been really good at mining for talent recently, we will continue to do so and work through this, good players slide way past pick 50odd every year.

i know nothing has been finalised yet but i have 2 questions about the draft:
so when is the draft order finalised?
can we trade a player for a higher draft pick this year? and if so, would that draft pick still have to be after our original 1st and 2nd round picks?

I think we'll look to trade out Jetta and see if we can get a second rounder for him. Dayle Garlett could come into play. Also a good chance we'll get a VFL player late in the draft.
