All dickheads aside, we do need to reassess our trading/contract strategy now.

The most harmful thing a club can do in terms of list management is to have a big gap in a particular age group. Of we have very little coming out of the 1995 and 1996 classes, it will hurt us massively. For that reason, I think we have to start shedding some talls, in particular Bellchambers who carries the most value. Pick 10 for Tom would go a long way to restoring the damage done today. Obviously there'd be immense pressure on Dodoro to nail the pick, but we have to make every effort to restore our position in both drafts.

I think we'll look to trade out Jetta and see if we can get a second rounder for him. Dayle Garlett could come into play. Also a good chance we'll get a VFL player late in the draft.
McCartney was keen on Jetta last year. Package him with Crameri or Pears and take what we can get.

Jetta would be 3rd rounder if it's WB. Bellchambers/Pears to GWS - AFL would be pissed if we secured pick 10. Sheedy is still there right?

We need to be shrewd in our trading with GWS and GC. They will have 3rd and 4th rounders that will probably not be used by them, and could potentially be very important to us.

That's fine, 3rd rounders are valuable now, as you say.

You're also very correct with GWS and GC. Bellchambers for pick 9 and whatever picks are useless to GWS would be a perfect result.

Just realised it will be pick 9, as only eight of the bottom ten are eligible for first round selections.

And just for the record, if we didn't get pick 18, we'd be getting Jake with our 3rd rounder. So your argument is invalid. Toodle-oo
Incorrect.

If another team wants to pick him they nominate before the draft what round they will be picking him in. If Essendon still want to get him for that pick they have to select him during that round.

That is why you had to use your first pick this year to get Daniher while Melbourne only had to use their second round pick to get Viney. No other club was willing to pick Viney in the first round. It happens prior to the draft.

That's not true at all. Port Adelaide bid their first rounder (#7) on Viney. Melbourne selected him with their next live pick, their second rounder (#26). Compensation picks aren't included. Try again.

So you think a banned (1st/2nd round) club can use their third round pick for a first round father son player? I don't believe there would have ever been a case where this has happened.

I think it would be extremely unfair that a team could be banned from the first two rounds but potentially pick up a first rounder in the third round.

They'd be abiding by the rules in their entirety by using their next eligible selection. Why wouldn't it be allowed?

I agree it appears to be by the book but I don't think the book was written with draft sanctions in mind.
Then why were Adelaide explicitly banned? It may turn out that Essendon were/will be too, but in the absence of that I wouldn't go leaping to any more conclusions.

Ah, so we're back to punishing Essendon for the vibe rather than breaking rules. Got it.
What? I meant the book of father/son rules were written without consideration of draft sanctions. I wasn't referring to Essendon in any way at all. Just that it doesn't seem to account for large drops in pick values.

Father sons are picked with live picks, and not compensation picks. If Jake Long was deemed a father son (and he will), we will use the 3rd rounder on him. The end of 1st round selection is purely a compensation pick, not a live pick. Live picks are directly tied to ladder positions. You finish last you get pick 1, etc.

and I think we've probably pushed for it and said ;we want to pick a F/S, we'll give back a pick, but we want to be able to get this kid', and the AFL have actually obliged it seems.

What would it take to get Colyer, Hams or Melksham off you guys?

We've got a litany of picks and a few kids who may seek greater opportunity elsewhere.

I know each player mentioned would have different values. Our pick 20 as a starting point, + ?

Hams and Melksham unattainable. Melk just signed up last week, hams in year one has shown a bit i think.
To get melksham off us, pick 6 or whatever you currently have. Hams probably a 3rd/4th rounder but again, I don't see why we'd let him go, or why clubs would trade for him

Colyer is an interesting one, could be delisted (would be stiff) might get a decent length deal.

Definitely enough chop to play afl, just maybe not for us (although i reckon he should be a regular, Kommer seems to be held in higher regard by the coaches).

3rd rounder would get a deal done, we need small forwards, I'd jump at Aaron Hall, but Sumner goes alright as well.

Could this actually make it better for Essendon drafting wise in 2014? If Jake Long is worth a first rounder we get 1st Round Compensation Pick, Jake Long, Pick 3... vs Jake Long, Pick 2, Pick 3 (unpenalised)...

Has Little pulled a swifty in this negotiation?

Colyer would be the only one available- your 3rd rounder could do the trick.

I'd do Colyer for a third rounder in a heartbeat! I'll ring Bluey and Clayton, can you blokes get it sorted on your end?
Would be a fairly fair trade, even a trade up could be an option, our 4th for your 2nd, basically just gets us into the 2nd round, and you get Colyer anyway.

We need to sign up hooker asap and I can see TBC going to gws now for a first rd pick.
we have two picks under 10 this year an over looked grundy 3 times we ain't tradeing a high pick for a ruck, an belly is not worth pick 10 anyway imo.a 2nd rounder is his value.it's not unlike sam jacobs trade
