We're getting screwed there if you assume Hibberd is worth say Pick 20, this is the points differential:
[Pick 1 (3000) + Pick 41 (412) + Hibberd (Pick 20, 912) + 2017 2nd (Pick 30?, 629)] - [Pick 4 (2034) + Pick 6 (1751)] = 1168 (approx. Pick 14)
Who cares about points, they are completely irrelevant for us.

We basically get pick 6 for a couple of mid 2nds, an early 3rd and a 3 pick downgrade. That's not getting screwed.

Huh? You're approach seems extremely short sighted. Saints traded 10 for something along the lines of 23 33 and next years first.

And you think this is bad for them why?
With 10 they get a pretty good player who they can develop next year. Much higher probability of getting a good player at 10 then 23 and 33. 30's your are starting to really reach and success rate is pretty low.

They have no first rounder this year when there's a pretty good draft available. They did well last year but have done ok getting Steele but should have just used 10 on the best player available imo.

Only reason you should remove yourself from the first round of the draft is if you are trading in a Judd, Dangerfield or that type of player.

they get an extra 1st next yr. and without Mitchell and Lewis there's a good chance that that Haws pick is around pick 10.

So,

They traded pick 10 for 23 + 33 + 10-14 (2017)

pretty damn good deal for them from where I sit.

That is getting screwed. Pick 1 & Hibberd or Pick 1 & the 2017 2nd alone would be enough to get it done. You are also undervaluing Pick 1 for mine too. Essentially what you've proposed is Pick 1 and Pick 8 (which is what Hibberd & the 2017 2nd equals) and Pick 41 for Picks 4 & 6. I'm sorry but that's a laughably bad trade for us.

Why waste a year getting a good pick into the club and developing them.

Bad strategy imo. Wastes time. Never on sell for future pot of rainbow as it may never exist.
It's not just a straight swap with next year's pick. Saints get 2x seconds this year. They now have 2x 1sts for next year and could be in a strong position with a big name FA becomes available.

An equivalent round future pick is worth less but future picks will always remain popular as it offers way more flexibility in trading.

I agree. Hopefully the banned guys coming back free's him up more this year, otherwise he needs to learn how to break a tag.
Do you think he'll still get tagged though. Teams use then less these days and with our current mid I don't think he will. Reckon he'll have a big year.

You never know, he's certainly less likely to be given Heppell or Watson would be the ones most likely to cop the close attention but they may view Zaka as being the most dangerous. I definitely agree though that tagging isn't used nearly as much as it used to be, most sides seem to prefer a team defence now rather than focusing on shutting down one or two opposition players, of course if there's a team where it's basically one guy carrying the whole side then yeah you'd try to tag him though off the top of my head the only guy recently to really cop that was Gazza and that still couldn't stop him.

Gun.

I keep thinking that this guy will be the best in this draft.

Oh and he is wearing red and black in this video. Sign?
Looks good in the red & black ;)
Close but it is the blue and red of Brighton Grammar.
Apparently he was taller then than he is now haha. Gotta love the way teams mess with the height stats in particular.
For some reason heights get measured extremely unreliably.

Andy McGrath measured at 177 last week. But at 179 at the start of the year. He hasn't shrunk.
A lot of players complained they lost about 2cm from what they have previously been measured at during the national combine.

just putting it out there but given we've stated we have the salary cap space for a $700k mid, if jaeger to hawks deal gets done early next week, i wouldn't be shocked to see Tom Rockliff wearing the red and black by the end of the trade period.
Thoughts on him in our midfield/potential trade?

Also really liking the idea to get another club involved in the hibbo deal to get a pick in the 20s and send melbs future 2nd rounder away.

Rockliff is a flog. Would you really want him around youngsters like Parish, Zerrett and Raz? No thanks, wouldn't even want him for free let alone giving up picks.

TBH i don't actually know him personally so I'm probably not comfortable making a judgement on that. Fair call if he's a party animal who gets people into drugs but you're inferring he's a flog ala BJ goddard in the way he drives standards, i reckon its okay.

probably more interested in his footy.
