Everyone getting excited about Pickett's performance like we missed a star.

Maybe just temper that with the fact that gws had as much pressure on Richmond in that grand final as all our grandmother's could have done.

He's not been drafted for many years for a reason.

It wasn't a monumental "miss" by our club nor the other 16 clubs.
Maybe so but how many players on our team could have played like that yesterday in the midfield? Apart from Yeo and Shuey there's no one really dynamic in there, the rest are just hard working, steady players.

So who are the mature WAFL blokes under our nose that we should draft this season?

IMO not a lot to pick from this year, however one name thats worth strong consideration is Ben Sokol , might just be a handy pick up for an AFL Club.

My point is that the lack of pressure from GWS would make anyone look like a superstar in that game.

Even his 360 was in Slow motion and if you look at the footage he was about 2 meters away from the gws player.

Don't get me wrong...it's a great footy story and kudos to Richmond and him but it's not a "bash the eagles recruiters moment" story.

Willie replacement or too similar to what weve already got?

Sent from my SM-G950F using Tapatalk

We won't be able to replace Willie per se, as his skill set is freaky and unique.

Hoping Cameron may fill some of the void that Willies self inflicted holiday, will create.

Sokol IMO is more like Jamie Cripps than Willie.

It may release Cripps to have more time in the midfield rotations.

One thing I will say about Sokol is that he is a very accurate kick at goal, more like Le Cras type accuracy.

Had been thinking about Sokol but had concerns about him not being a list need as medium sized marking type forwards aren’t necessarily a priority

I might be wrong on that and agree he’d be worth a spot on an AFL list

Also I wonder what the clubs thinking on Nic Reid might be as I thought he had some impressive performances for the beagles this year

Not a GF to compare- the white flag was up durng the second quarter. FF and two best mids out, A/Captain on one leg and key runner unable to kick on his preferred leg. How did that not work?

Agree with you Keys on not being a huge positional list need , however I see him as a better option than some currently on our list.

Reid's kicking accuracy worries me, he misses some easy ones and jails some freaky ones.
At the next level he won't be a big possession winner and will need to maximise his opportunities, not sure he is capable of that.

Disturbing thing about Tiges win yesterday is 3 X Ex GC Suns players picking up medallions (Prestia, Caddy and Lynch) makes the 'go home' factor even more attractive to current Suns players. Moreso Prestia and Caddy got no 2.

After thought comment - Player retention at GC just got a whole lot harder.

It's worse than just that as well.

GWS players have just found out how hard it is to win a premiership being part of an interstate team.

Travelling more in three weeks of finals than the opponent has in the last three months would surely have some impact.

Kicking their lowest ever score in a Grand Final whilst losing by 15 goals is something that will hang around the neck of that club for years to come.

I would not be surprised at all if a GWS exodus were to occur over the next few seasons as a result of yesterday's thrashing.

Sydney - Melbourne is 70 minutes - not a massive impost. The drive to Geelong takes more time

No doubt Pickett can play and we can only wonder why we didn’t draft him ahead of Josh Smith for example

That said he was brilliantly coached yesterday by Hardwick. I don’t recall him having much influence in the first quarter but he was involved heavily after that - Hardwick didn’t seem to give him the task of worrying about an opponent and allowed him to run loose through the midfield aware that GWS would be far more focused on other Richmond playmakers. It meant that as Richmond took control of the contested ball he was often out in space running around by himself

It would be unfair to dismiss his game as downhill skiing but if I was making my debut I’d like for it to be in a game my side win by 15 goals

I think your being a little dramatic. They made the big dance with many injuries. Won’t be any exodus from gws imo

IIRC - we got belted by ~9 goals in 91 by the Hawks at Waverley. I know yesterdays margin was greater but it can also be a salutary message to players - it ain't easy walking away with a medal.

I wonder if some of our players were expecting a 'walk up start' for the last game of the year. Their up and down forms seemed to suggest some were not switched on.

Quokka is 25?

Sat next to some astute GWS supporters yesterday and this was the biggest take out from them after they knew they were not going to make a game of it.

They were pretty worried about players walking or finding it even more harder to get players from other team to move over.

They were also peeved with how insipid Mummy was.

They will draft Fisher if they get anyone from the Beagles.

They won't draft someone who's 29 next season unless there's an actual pressing need for depth in that area.

He's 184cm so unless we're in dire straights for backman (even though he played forward in ammos) there really isn't any point.

And I like the Fish more than anyone.
