If trading him meant that we still had a first rounder in this years draft to go with 22 would you take that?

Honestly no.

I don't get why people are so keen to trade Petruccelle. Picks in the mid teens to 30 odd have like a 50% success rate of even playing 50 AFL games. Let alone good games.

He is a 20 yo that is fringe best 22 and could easily develop into an absolute gun.

Better sell him as steak knives.

I wouldn't mind if we had a player as good as Dusty Martin who hangs around bikies TBH.
You're really making us sound like the "Chardonay sipping supporters".

I seriously doubt a major sponsor would drop off if we had a player act up.
And even if they did, it's not hard for WC to attract new ones.

I bet the average supporter would rather see us take a punt on a Stack or Pickett if it makes
our team better.
Don't think the Club would take the risk after the Cousins/Gardener era??

Hypocrites the lot of them. Is anybody from WA involved with Trade Radio or SA for that matter - damn VFL😡

Regarding overlooking Kelly, Stack and Pickett, I don't think the club should be beyond reproach by any stretch but I think the 'incompetent' accusations are a bit OTT. Perhaps if we had been wallowing around the bottom of the comp for a few years they might have a bit more weight, but we've been in the finals, what, 5 years running? And we've had 1 Premiership from 2 GF appearances in that 5 year stretch. It's not like we've been on life support, we have actually thrived.

Also, we are not privy to as many details as the club would be. As of right now Kelly is a definite miss but regarding Stack and Pickett both had baggage. Should that stop us from recruiting them? I don't know but we do know that the club went through some fairly tumultuous times. I think, in light of the past, the club being a bit conservative is warranted. And again, we have been pretty damn successful, in spite of the misses(2 of those misses are being based on a very small sample size of games played, too).

Sure, going forward, we could look a lot more closely at players in the WAFL, definitely, but again, the runs are on the board in terms of performance with the trades and drafting we have been involved in. Personally, and I'm probably in the minority here, I'm willing to cut the club a bit of a break on this one.

I'd love to sit down with the recruiting staff and get their thoughts on why Ryan Burrows was selected as a rookie.

I think people forget what a speculative pick Petch was. He wasn't a top-ten pick who is underwhelming, he's a raw project who has wildly surpassed expectations already while still learning the game. Petch stays.

Considering Rioli's situation, our midfield and the awesome recent impacts of players getting another go or being drafted later on, I'd be for Bennell getting a spot on out list.
If you want to pay a person to sit on a list and not contribute you can pay me. I'll accept less than what Bennell wants.
I'd be up for this just for the infinitesimal chance that Bennell gets fit and plays a part in our next flag, purely to see the bile from cockburn fans.

Petruccelle is a decent young talent, but I think his ceiling is rather low.
Yes he’s quick but skills are very below par. If we could effectively trade him for a pick that could be packaged into a deal that would net us Robertson or Rivers, I would do it in a heart beat.
They look like much more rounded prospects with higher ceilings. They also play in a position we desperately need depth for.

This confuses me. Surely if he can improve his skills, and there's no reason why he can't, wouldn't his ceiling be relatively high?

He's a latecomer to the game and somewhat of a project, I'd be very disappointed to lose him via a trade when he's ahead of schedule.

Disturbing thing about Tiges win yesterday is 3 X Ex GC Suns players picking up medallions (Prestia, Caddy and Lynch) makes the 'go home' factor even more attractive to current Suns players. Moreso Prestia and Caddy got no 2.

After thought comment - Player retention at GC just got a whole lot harder.
It's another thing that seems to make it all the tougher for non-vic clubs like us.

GC are just acting as reserve recruiting clubs for the big vic teams. GC recruits a whole bunch of players; trains them up; discards/keeps the duds; gives the good ones to the Melbourne teams. It's a free grab. You try 'em out, train 'em up and if they're any good - thank you very much.

And who can blame the kids. They get picked up by a rubbish team in a rubbish location and get to play in front of smaller crowds than a training session gets down south. They spend two years doing this while their mates are playing on the MCG every second week in front of 50K+ fans. I'd jump as well.
But that makes Melbourne the attractive choice. Big clubs, big crowds, less travel.

I guess I just don’t see him as a natural lay skilled footballer,
Would love to be proven wrong

So an untested 18 yo can improve his skills but a 20 year yo who has actually had an impact at AFL has reached his celing?

Midfielders are the late teen early 20 mark a extremely hit and miss. Miss being the more likely outcome.

Name a player that has significantly improved their skills over the course of their professional career

Would argue almost every AFL player would show improvement in the majority of their abilities in their first few seasons of their careers.

Are you seriously saying Petruccelle has hit his peak at 20 yo and like 18 games?

Petch’s skills aren’t that bad. His kicking at full tilt is hit and miss but that’s understandable given how quick he’s running.

His general technique is OK, and his decision making will get better which will mean fewer shanks caused by indecision with ball in hand

I didn't but I don't think he is going to be a superstar either.

Agreed
He will improve, Don’t get me wrong.
He just does not look like a natural footballer and will ever become a A grader.
(Not a lot of small forwards are)

Someone like Rivers or Robertson do.
This is just my opinion.

Did it v Hawks away in 2013.
Yeah but then he lied about the amount of pain he was in to the doctors so they let him keep playing on it for a few games.

"It's ankle related. There's something there that he's been carrying and probably his brave attitude towards it has probably hurt it a little bit because he's been carrying it since round three."

Brave attitude being code for stupidity
