Because they're not needed. Those names are just thrown up for the sake of taking a free agent. They don't add to anything, our midfield is stacked with depth and our forward line is functional without Menzel who is the most overrated forward at the moment.
Bit harsh on Menzel. His year has been very good. He’s paid to kick goals and that’s what he’s doing. Really if Fasolo could put in the output he does we would be over the moon.

Agreed mate Menzel is the Cats best forward in 2018..........but apparently it's about presssssssssssuuuuuuure in today's modern game especially at the Pies.

The biggest knock on him is his lack of pressure. A friend who works at the club indicates he only runs when there is a chance of him snagging a goal. He could have been anythings before his 4 knee ops. He has had 3 tackles this year in 4 games. He averages 1.5 tackles per year. Even Alex Fasolo who has been poor at forward pressure swamps him for 2.5 tackles per game.

How many goals does he average in 2018?

He has started well this season with 14 goals to date. However I would prefer to wait until he has played several teams of substance.

Friend advised that the knock on him is that he struggles against a close tagging defender and won't work hard to pressure/tackle and is a down hill skier. He beats up the lesser teams but struggles against the better teams.

In 34 games against top 8 teams he has kicked 48 goals at an average of 1.4. Against the bottom 8 teams he has kicked 75 goals in 30 games at an average of 2.5 goals.

He kicked 4 goals against Melbourne in R1. Nothing new as he has kicked 4 goals against them in every game he has played against them. He kicked 4 against the Hawks. He hadn't had a kick against the Hawks until Burgoyne did his hamstring.

Personally, I think that Bruest is ahead of Menzel this year

I think the club erred in not taking him.

From a simple list mgmt view they had the potential to let Fasolo go back to WA (he was open to it) and acquire a 20+ selection. Could have either backed in Daicos to play that role who had shown really good signs and or sign Menzel as a FA for $200k. They would have got a terrific pick and saved some salary cap space.

Granted its largely hindsight but its a valid argument to say an opportunity might have been missed.

I would like to have a real dip at Angus Brayshaw, good skills and tackling pressure. Could rotate forward and through the midfield like De Goey.

menzel is too much of a downhill skier for bucks.

letting Fas go for a decent pick would've been a good idea.
