My concern is if we have to go two draft age key positions we won't start seeing them pull their weight for 4 years. We may need to go down that route but I reckon we need a ready made key position player if it's possible.
Agree about the ready made KPF, Lynch being the obvious choice, as I've posted before as a FA only IMO, with the 'super draft' this year we need a selection in the top 20 to sure up our emerging list.

Depends on which key position players we get.
If we are turning the corner proformance was, we will not have to rush them into the team, and we can do the same as we have done with Mclarty.
Time in the vfl to properly learn and devolved their game, while adding strength.
I don’t totally believe in just playing them. Too early it can harm mentally and physically when not ready. Learn the game and when form is right by knocking down the door, then play them.
Could be right in under two seasons. As is Mclarty.
Yeah I agree. My concern is regarding how much time Reid and Dunn have left? I think we need to plan for the possibility it isn't much. If we don't have some mature key position players we wouldn't have the luxury to take time developing any key position players we bring in.

If you're realistic the chances of a draft age key position player coming in and playing to a high AFL standard immediately is highly unlikely. I certainly wouldn't bet on it.

Lynch and McGovern are the only decent free agent listed key position players. But that doesn't stop us trading for one. There are other key position players out there.
No draftee has come in since Selwood and played "High AFL standard". Weitering came in Round 1 for the Blues, depends on what type of KPP they are.

If Lynch doesn't go ahead I wonder what is the contingency? I hope we're exploring some other options and can uncover someone that gives us the value Dunn has. I'm interested in who that might be?

That's my point. Look where Weitering and Carlton are now btw. You need to be careful how you develop players.

Dunn l think has two years left and Reid who knows, could be one week or the same as Dunn. One of them will be replaced with Mclarty who by the looks could replace either or even Moore at chb pushing him forward.
At lot could depend on how cox goes this year as to how many talls we draft or through FA.
We do need at least two talls. For the future, but wether that’s next year or over two years in the draft. That’s also depending if we have them at all.

soft spot for Carlton out of pity

I was a big fan of getting a defender from the state leagues say Mihocek, McLarty looks good, but we need to prepare for the loss of Dunn who's been monumental when you consider we got him for nothing on low salary. The thing is there's not a lot of quality KPP's in the AFL right now. Some players have been overrated, especially Daniher and Lynch.

I honestly think after two underwhelming years from Lynch, the Suns might be more open to letting him go to his chosen destination via FA and not force a trade. Also his currency would drop by the end of the year, with the way he is going right now anyway.

Gaff is a severely overrated player. Do not want.

We don't see a whole heap of him because he plays in WA, went to the Blues West Coast game yesterday, he sits 20 metres of the back of the pack and gets a whole lot of cheap ball.

The majority of his disposals are with little to no pressure and he isn't damaging. His stats lie.

He's supposed to be out the back.. He's an outside midfielder

I agree you shouldn't rush in kpp's in their early years. I am happy with how they have handled McClarty he has had time to get ready in VFL and when he is ready to come into the afl he can make more of an impact. I would like the club to do the same with any 2018 drafted kpp. It means we probably need to keep Dunn, Reid, Cox, Mihocek for 2019 if possible. McClarty can hopefully play one kpp spot in 2019 and we probably need to look at trading or free agency for one more mature kpp.

Spot on. That needs to happen over the next couple of years. Kelly will come in as a developing key back. We need to look at tall forwards too.

I think Saints, Melbourne and Geelong are stacked for KPP.

Saints: Bruce and McCartin seem to be gettable. They also have Battle, Rowan Marshall, and Oscar Clavarino.

Melbourne: Weideman seems to be quite low on the pecking order with Tom McDonald, Cam Pederson and Jesse Hogan ahead of him. Tom McDonald would be a very nice get, as he can play both ends of the ground. However, he could be expensive. He’s a RFA, and we have done well with ex-Melbourne players. I think Tom might be keen on leaving too. He doesn’t really have a place in the Demon’s team, and might want stability. He probably would want the same money from Melbourne that they paid Lever, as he has more runs on the board. Weideman would be cheap, but he would need to show some signs this year.

Geelong: Wylie Buzza seems to be lower down the pecking order, and I really liked what he showed last year. I wouldn’t be completely against recruiting him. He might struggle to get a game over Rataguelia (I tried) and Hawkins.

Obviously, Tom Lynch would be super nice. But the question beckons, if you could have Tom Lynch(1.3 mil) or Tom McDonald (700) and Josh Bruce(550-600), who would you choose?

Only way I pick Tom Lynch is if we show great signs this year and our defence is absolutely settled with a few AFL quality backups in the VFL.

I'd go for Bruce
