He's a fair bit better than Tom Phillips, actually allot better.
Doesnt mean we need Gaff though. Phillips may well not even be best 22 when we have a full list to choose from so an upgrade to Gaff wont improve us much. Would probably weaken us due to salary cap demands.

No I don't think we should target Gaff. I think he'd help our side allot more than Sloane but I'd rather just back our own midfield talent to develop and target other areas of need.

I think Saints, Melbourne and Geelong are stacked for KPP.

Saints: Bruce and McCartin seem to be gettable. They also have Battle, Rowan Marshall, and Oscar Clavarino.

Melbourne: Weideman seems to be quite low on the pecking order with Tom McDonald, Cam Pederson and Jesse Hogan ahead of him. Tom McDonald would be a very nice get, as he can play both ends of the ground. However, he could be expensive. He’s a RFA, and we have done well with ex-Melbourne players. I think Tom might be keen on leaving too. He doesn’t really have a place in the Demon’s team, and might want stability. He probably would want the same money from Melbourne that they paid Lever, as he has more runs on the board. Weideman would be cheap, but he would need to show some signs this year.

Geelong: Wylie Buzza seems to be lower down the pecking order, and I really liked what he showed last year. I wouldn’t be completely against recruiting him. He might struggle to get a game over Rataguelia (I tried) and Hawkins.

Obviously, Tom Lynch would be super nice. But the question beckons, if you could have Tom Lynch(1.3 mil) or Tom McDonald (700) and Josh Bruce(550-600), who would you choose?

Only way I pick Tom Lynch is if we show great signs this year and our defence is absolutely settled with a few AFL quality backups in the VFL.
I like the out of the box thinking. Would Bruce be realistic you think?

Bruce will be 26 next year. Whilst that is not old he has hardly stamped his credentials yet......perhaps a risk on a younger player with more upside would be wiser.....even a McCartin?

Or maybe we dont go for anybody at all.

Sloane is interesting. I am a hard arse when it comes to trading, I see everyone as expendable if it advances the side. I agree with your comment re Sloane as we have a lot of inside types. How would you feel if we took Sloane as a free agent and traded out Taylor Adams who I think sides like Carlton, Brisbane and Gold Coast may offer a mid to late first rounder for?

No net loss in terms of grunt in the middle, an upgrade in foot skills and another first round pick in a bumper draft year. And we have Sier developing along with the more mature Wills as back up.

Paul Roos said getting Games into them Early can be a Mistake
It depends on where you are on the ladder. Carlton’s problem is that they have no bigger bodies to protect the younger guys coming in. Basically they are just getting smashed at every contest and will continue to do so until they can’t take no more. But they don’t have much choice atm because there’s no one else worth playing. Like I said another thread it’s a vicious circle for them.

Then you have teams like Sydney and Geelong that have a couple of young players doing really well, because they have the likes of Kennedy, Parker, Jack and then Selwood, Danger etc.

Very True. Have to play Kids IF you have no one else. North is showing why it's good to keep some of the Better Veterans on your List so you don't get Flogged just about every week and Kids might get bit better Development without the Pressure

McCartin won't be anything special. He's one of those Cloke type forwards that the games gone past.

I'm not sure either of those teams need another shit kicking scrubber mid.

I think it all depends on how McCartin, Bruce and Membrey gel this year. I personally don’t think they gel well.
Yeah perhaps. But you'd think two keys and a third tall would be a good mix. I reckon they'd be more inclined to deal on McCartin given Bruce is proven and the concussion issues. I would love Bruce mind you.

If I were to pick anyone from any team though it would be Ben Brown. Great team player. Can ruck the forward minutes. Would fit into rather than dominate the forward structure. It kills me we had the opportunity to snag him cheap in his draft year. And that he re-signed last year.

Ben Brown would be amazing, but that’s a fairytale. If I had a choice, it would be Jeremy Cameron. He’s the ideal forward in this modern area. Moore could play a similar role, but Cameron is a god amongst men, IMO. He would be worth every cent of $1.3mil. Day dreaming is fun.
