I'm torn on the idea of Reid coming in as a forward.

One thing we badly need is a mature forward that can provide structure and kick goals. That will take some heat off Darcy while allowing McCarthy and any other key forward we recruit some time to develop at a lower level.

One thing we don't need is a player that doesn't get on the field. A player that doesn't kick goals. And another underperforming player on a big and long contract.

I'd love to see Reids goal kicking stats filtered to the games that he has spent as a forward. Because his stats aren't encouraging but how much have they been impacted by the time he has played in defense? I suspect most of his career has been forward.

If his goal kicking stats are better when only a forward and the medicos are happy he'll get on the field consistently i'd be inclined to jump on the trade. If not i'd pass.
His player ratings from SEN give you a much better idea of what you're wondering (although not a complete one, for which I suspect you would have to sit down and watch every game he has ever played):

http://www.aflplayerratings.com.au/Ratings/Player/115786/Sam-REID

Note 2015 where he played a lot in defence because he couldn't get a game forward behind Franklin/Tippett/Goodes, as well as chunks of 2014 likewise, bracketed by injury destroyed seasons in 2013 and 2016.

I know it feels like we've been here before with other players brought in, but if he could rediscover the player he was in 2012 when they won the premiership, then that would almost be enough in the immediate...

If the 1st round picks are coming from a top 4 side then yes as that'd put them at pick 15+.
Yeah. After I posted that question I realized the same thing. Big difference between 2 top 5 picks and 2 picks around the 15-18 mark. Thing is when we say first rounder I automatically think top 10 for some reason. So in my mind two first rounders meant 2 top 10 picks, which of course is not what it means.

Looks like Reid may want to join his brother?

Would help in the forward line at least, but would make our ruck/forward situation interesting. I'd wager Cox would most likely never get another game if we pick up Reid.

Still can't believe I am still reading "if DeGoey doesn't come good soon..." and saying he could be Freeman-esque.

You've got to be kidding me. I'd only have Petracca and maybe Lever ahead of him at this stage*.

* without looking too far into the draft
Based on where the 2014 draftees are at this stage in their respective careers I'd agree DeGoey ain't looking too bad. Not many are setting the competition on fire.

But I'd still rather Wright, McGovern, Marchbank, Andrews as well.

Foresight with hindsight is a wonderful thing though. Looking back now it would have been nice taking two key position players with our two top 10 picks.

Are you jumping at the post on Trade Radio's Facebook page, which is citing the following (at 44:54...?)

https://www.9now.com.au/afl-footy-show/2017/episode-9

"Yet to resume" talks, in Barrett's words. Old mate Damo also says, with developments on the new pay deal, "some movement on that (Grundy's contract)" expected soon...
Grundy said he was confident his contract extension would follow soon after.
"When that is all wrapped up, watch this space," Grundy said.
"I am happy at Collingwood."

Damo got one right this time.

was listening to simon dalrymple on the road to the draft podcast. he suggested at the moment the top end talent in this years draft is a bit weak. :(

we haven't reached the champs yet so hopefully some names bob up through the rest of the year.

Pyeman on EbnW also said it a few weeks back, lot of diff types not much depth also (Atm) doesn't appear any superstars, 2018 draft looks good. Brander Fogarty and Rayner not on same level as Judd/Hodge draft.

Spewing on Spargo though.
Personally I still think Fogarty and Brander have potential gun written all over them.
