I meant Freo with Darling.

Can't say I've seen much of Reid back so can't judge that one. Is he any good there?

A forward line of Reid, Darling and Moore. I can't see a role for Fasolo there. He'd be on the move surely.
Package the Fas & a pick for Darling.

Just from what I hear.

I think the strategy that may get some traction later in the year is bringing in Sam Reid as a FA and keeping the draft pick in the hope we might be in the mix for a quality young key tall such as Brander. The alternative is throw the sink at a Wright or Schache but we are going to have to give a lot for them so you might be better off waiting and getting Sam Reid to play a role. Sam plays the way Bucks wants his forward line to operate so whilst he is hot and cold at Sydney I think they would be drawn to him.

The outlier could be Patton. I just wonder if it came down to $$ would GWS part with him to help keep Kelly and Co. Also not convinced that Jack Darling isnt gettable as well. Josh Bruce might also be one towards year end that gets talked about.

As you know I take a keen interest in draft etc and the one that got away was Ben Brown. He was an obvious one and would be perfect for us.
I'm glad I'm not the only one thinking this! I watched quite a bit of him in the VFL back then and kept thinking 'this bloke has it and has what we need' ("need" being a young marking key forward to help Cloke and develop alongside Moore, who wasn't quite rated as highly by some at the time). Unfortunately, he went at 47 (IIRC?), after we had traded 44 for Jesse White, when we still had Quinten Lynch on the list to play that same role...:'(

Bruce would be a great fit for us. A really good fit. What would he cost?

Yep, and in regards to the last line, that's exactly what Brisbane posters in the Schache thread on the drafts board are angling for, even if they won't admit it and are adamant he's still 'worth' a top 5 pick. I can't imagine that they'd be happy with pick 20+21 for example, instead of pick 5 because it's a points equivalent like they were with Aish, but that could well be the type of trade they have to swallow depending on Schaches destination.

With Ballenden available to them as well, I think that they'll prioritise a mid with their first pick, and I'd wager they'll take Fogarty at this point given his ability to pretty much play any part of the ground except ruck. Which means Brander will be available to us or the Swans. Of course, if Sutherland decides to choose footy over cricket that throws another variable in, given he's been mooted as a potential number 1 pick.
That was my feel on their ambit claims as well and I bet they wouldn't cop those later picks in tandem!

Overall I think it might even be best for us if he re-signs because it lessens their need to go taller, reduces our chances of overpaying and moves closer to my desire of a stop gap with a newly drafted KPF developing underneath.

Sutherland is definitely the wild card. I'm on the Fogarty train myself, but if Will chooses footy it leaves us with even greater flexibility.
Hmm...

Cricket's fight to retain multi-talented teenager Will Sutherland has been dealt a major blow, with the Australian under-19 captain set to be named in the Vic Metro squad for the upcoming national championships.

After training only a handful of times with the larger Vic Metro squad, Sutherland has agreed to be picked in the updated squad and is set to be fast-tracked into the team for the national championships, which begin on June 10.

The teenager, who as recently as March was favoured to pick cricket over football, is now a genuine chance of nominating for this year's national draft, where he could be a top 10 pick.

Anyone from the below list is worth getting for various prices (KPFs only)

  • Walker
  • Jenkins
  • Schache
  • Daniher
  • Mccarthy
  • Hawkins
  • Lynch
  • Wright
  • Patton
  • Cameron
  • Lobb
  • Gunston
  • Hogan
  • Weideman
  • Brown
  • Riewoldt
  • Reid
  • Franklin
  • Kennedy
  • Boyd
Not a promising list as almost all are contracted/too pricey.

Gotcha. They'd be into him no doubt, but no idea whether he'd feel the need to stay in WA.

They were grooming Reid as Richards replacement prior to Buddy's illness and he was performing. Whether he has Ben's ability in defense I'm not sure, but I do believe Ben is the better fit forward if we snagged Darling.

I agree re Fasolo.

I would give up our first rounder a real gun and exactly what we need, pick up S Reid as a FA and we are on our way ( trade Fasolo or JDG or Sidey) for more talent as well!

We need to be ruthless and we need to be bold otherwise we'll keep doing what we are doing

Would be a great get.
Then it would have to be F.A to land a KPF.
Not keen on giving up a significant sum for the type of player he is (despite how good he is) when we clearly need a key forward.
I suspect if we were to land May, a Reid of some description would be our full forward next year...

Steven May would be fantastic for us.

Strong and an awesome left foot.
Yep, by far best 22. Has some mongrel in him too.

People might think we have more pressing needs, like a KPF, but let's not forget that we went into this season shit scared about how bad our backline would be. Schade has been better than we expected, yes, but Dunn won't be around forever. And Reid is about as durable as a tissue in the wind.
