We need to trade out some of our excess midfielders who have trade currency based on both their name and what they have done. We should be prepared to trade anybody (with the exception of our young players (i.e. De Goey, Maynard, Moore who will lead us to our next premiership).

We have an over infatuation with our players and significantly overestimate their abilities.

“We should not be afraid of losing a big name player, or players that have played well over the past few years" if it is going to improve our list in the medium to long term. Not on recycled players who are coming to the endd of the careers or who cannot get a game at their current club.

We keep naming players that we should target for a trade from other clubs who are not world beaters at their current club or who are languishing in the VFL. If they cannot get a game with their current club, how are they going to improve ours?.

Our current strategy of recruiting middle class or grunt midfielders but with disposal deficiencies has not worked.
Who do you suggest? And what would we get for them?

I genuinely think Sam Weideman is a good option. Only because he's your typical young KPF who can't get a game though being in the system for 2 years now. Guarantee the kid a game. He's not gonna get a game over Hogan, Watts or even Pederson ATM. Could get away with a second round pick even.
No way. He'd cost us a first round pick. He went early and he's only missing games due to pecking order. It's different to say giving away Freeman for a second.

On SEN Russell Barwick (SP) suggested that there is a lot of talk in Sydney about a large deal involving Swans, Tigers, Demons, Bulldogs and Pies.

He was a bit sheepish but slowly revealed:

Tippett to Dogs
Zac Jones to Melb
Dusty to Syd
Sydney to retire and off load players to fit in Martin

No further mention of Pies as specificlly as above but my 'guess' would be Sam Reid to us as FA as part of making room for Dusty, otherwise I can't see what other involvement we would have.

So draft picks would flow from Dogs & Melbourne to Sydney, then onforwarded to Richmond (assuming they threaten to match free agency bids).
Richmond would be quite demanding (similar to Adelaide with Danger).
Pies nab Reid under free agency...
Works for me...

If the Tigers were in fact able to match. They can't just say we will match without the AFL agreeing they have that room in their salary cap.

This is an assumption on my part, but after the break KB came back and was mentioning 13M over 10 years. I'd suggest they had an of the record chat with Russell during the break as KB was heartbroken when back on air.

NB- this is one persons view of a rumour he had heard in Sydney.

Wow, here's an excellent post, (from a Carlton supporter no less) on why not to get Casboult!

"Really poor game sense and corralling, really poor decision making on what to do, and really poor once the ball hits the deck."
As an unworthy shot for goal, I'm always suspicious if they have one good year, next season?

Turns to custard?
It's a big no from me.

Interesting I quite like the mega trade stuff. Surely us getting Reid as a free agent has nothing to do with this mega deal? A free agent is separate to this.
Dogs would have Cloke and Tippett running around in VFL!
Melbourne and Swans are laughing.
Tigers crying, draft picks don't replace Dusty.
And we end up with two Reids.

There hasn't really been a lot of talk around Motlop.

He is a Free Agent, and I reckon Cats would get more out of him via FA compo than by an actual trade.

Perhaps playing alongside Wells and Varcoe for a few years will provide good mentours for him to recapture some of his past form.

I've been pretty critical of his form this year, but we wouldn't have to trade to get him. So it must be considered at the right price.

Anyone else thinks Toby Greene might be gettable? Just because of his anger issues.
I would more than happily trade our first pick for Hopper/Smith & Greene?
He's their most important player.
Now we're talking, it could be possible because of Greene's issues, the Giants might not want to invest heavily in a guy who might offer 18 games a year when Kelly and co are on the line. I don't think he'll leave but it's worth having a chat to him.

Our first + steak knives for Greene + Hopper would be nothing short of amazing.

I don't see why Geelong don't play him up forward, where he kicked 44 goals a few years ago and also 38 last year playing as a midfielder. I'd take him for a performance-based salary, something like $350k a year guaranteed plus big bonuses for high goal tallies and such. He has talent to burn, he's just lazy/ Maybe some incentives could get him moving again.

I should be Knightmare' right hand man. Get rid of of Hine's team.

Our secret weapon is Tradedraft is our negotiator.

Btw no to Motlop, he's the opposite of Greene. S-O-F-T.
The annoying thing is people have called him soft for years, and nothing's changed.
