I would upgrade him to the senior list only as ruck depth. We're kidding ourselves if we think he'll add value as a KPF long term, but he's AFL standard as a ruckman. What concerns me is that he's our only real option below Grundy with Lynch 2-3 years away from offering anything of value.

If we found a way to bring McGovern and Reid in it would at least relieve the possibility that he'll be used forward beyond 2017. With those two we immediately get support for Moore and keep our 1st round selection which we can afford to then use on best available without trading up.
Given his VFL form (averaging more than three contested marks per game), I think Cox has more of a future as a marking forward than anything else.

Even at AFL level, a double team is required to stop him marking the ball. The problem is our delivery and not targeting him and isolating him enough.

At VFL level he's 20 cm taller or 20kg heavier than anyone he plays on. Overall though it hasn't translated at the next level and won't.

Yeah, he's supremely overrated. I don't think he's "the answer" or anything special.
Well this is awkward o_O

Can play!

I just don't see what Varcoe offers at this point. He's already 29, so isn't going to get any better. He spends half the season injured, then seems to be an automatic in when fit (his latest senior return came on the back of an 11 disposal, 0 goal, 1 tackle VFL performance). He's not as quick as he once was (due to age and injury), and his "clean ball use" is negated by the fact that he barely touches the thing, and has a knack for selling teammates into trouble by dishing off handballs to guys who are under the pump. He doesn't kick goals or create for others anymore, he's a clueless defender (always a step behind his man or the play), and his tackling has dropped right away. He basically just does a lot of useless running and sheepdogging around packs these days, reminiscent of Chris Egan once upon a time. The idea of what he should be is much greater than the reality at this point, and it seems like we're perpetually waiting for him to get his body right and produce good footy, and I just don't see it happening. I'd rather put the same time and patience into someone younger, with more potential upside.

I've seen nothing impressive from Crocker either, and don't really think he has the potential to be anything more than an average 13-15 disposal, 1-1.5 goal a game half forward. That being said, I'd rather put the time into someone like him than Varcoe. If he stays, Crocker is one of a number of young guys on our list who I'd like to slap on 4-5kg of muscle this off-season.

This is also Cox's 3rd year on our list, not the 5th. Pretty sure it's upgrade or delist after three years on the Rookie List, isn't it? Or is it four years for Cat B/International Rookies?
He doesn't kick goals because he's a defender, seriously that argument is ridiculous. Sure he doesn't get allot of it but his opponent usually doesn't either. Not sure where you get this clueless defender from his opponents don't do much on him.

Seems to take an OK grab
The way he flies at the ball with his size and mobility he's going to be a big time player in the near future!

He had 9 score involvements from only 10 possessions today so if he can find it with greater consistency who knows what he could be.

The difference at Crows to us is Walker and Jenkins take the 2 best defenders off him.

So while he would be a great get we still need a KPF to partner Moore. He wont fix that.

He doesn't play all game, every game as a defender, and he spends a lot of time out of position or a step behind the play and his opponent when he does.

A perfect example of what I'm talking about is the Essendon game a couple of weeks ago. 3-4 of their first half goals were a result of Varcoe either being out of position or not keeping up with his man in the back 50.

He'd receive the third defender behind Reid (x2?) and Moore.
Knowing us we'd send Reid back to defence if we got him and isnt the word on Sam Reid that he is staying a Swan?

But yeah if Reid stays fwd with Moore then it would be a nice addition.

I'd still want a long term solution for when Reid retires he is what, 30 next year? But short term it would give us a new dimension.

What's your opinion now?
That his first three goals game from uncontested marks on the back of good work from his teammates, and that the fourth came from a situation where 98 times out of 100, there would (or should) be a defender there to either get in the way or kill the ball.

I still don't think he's anything special. At the very least, he's clearly the "lesser" McGovern brother, and is still a fair way behind where his brother was at the same age (circa 2015).

I'd be very surprised if he stayed personally. Not based on word from journos one way or the other, but because it's so late in the season with no comment from him.

I would hope we could acquire both without compromising our access to a top 6 pick and I'd 100% still be going hard at Fogarty or Brander at that point of the draft if they're still on the board. We'd crush our KPP problems in one off season by bringing in those 3.

It would be nice although as I have maintained im not sure we will have the pick for them by years end unless Fogarty's champs and knee injury see's him slide a bit.

Possible I guess as it happens most drafts with injured players.
Id be pretty chuffed if we landed him as I think he will be a gun eventually.

He played a couple of games early in the season up forward. Other than that he's been a defender. If you want to argue his a poor forward sure but that's the clubs fault for playing him there.

As for goals, the first one was because of a poor turnover from Maynard, the second I'll give you but even then it's barely his fault the midfield let Merret waltz in the forwardline unmarked. The third one Varcoe's position was fine it was a poor tap from Crisp him.

Aaron Naughton with our second would be incredible. Particuarly if we could grab a KPF prospect like Brander or Fogarty (2nd kpf size) with our first.

After watching the champs I thought he really looked the goods and has supposedly transitioned into senior WAFL footy seamlessly since returning.

Both him and McClarty could form a strong back spine in our next premiership team.

Second rounder or our second pick which is a third rounder at the moment

I would offer Josh Bruce 2,5 million over 4 years to squeeze him out of Stkilda, very good forward who would be a great fit with Moore, Fas and Elliot.
Too hot and cold and with McCartin lacking experience and Riewoldt nearing the end, the Saints will want him to stay, even paying a little extra I'm sure.
He's a likable footballer but probably wouldn't come over to us.
I'd be looking at a cheap ruckman, a KPD and another half back flanker.
Keep Cox as a dedicated forward, play Moore a little further up the ground ala Cloke, Rotate Grundy and Cox through the ruck, bring in a cheap ruck for back up or insurance, a KPD for the obvious reason that we literally have no big hulking defenders and someone to dash of half back, Varcoe is reliable but his body isn't. Maybe we could send Aish off to the gym for a few months, maybe a few years...
