Thomas and Keeffe are both unrestricted free agents. I'm pretty sure it's been said at least 20 times in the past week in this thread. Not sure why people are still insisting on using them in trade scenarios.
I think we'll keep both anyway.
Thomas has earned further time.

Keeffe surely is cheap back up - and really tall. So may as well.

Throwing up big names is easy but are people prepared to actually give up someone of real worth in an area of strength (midfield) to get someone really good in an area of weakness (key position).

After missing finals for a 4th straight season the club will have to decide if it's prepared to wait 2 more off seasons to sure up our spine at either end or be ruthless and aim for the stars in this one.

Salary cap space will obviously play an important part.

While we've all been guilty of it at one stage or another it always makes me chuckle when we see some of the more hopeful trade scenarios mentioned at this time of year.

Wouldn't trade our 1st for him. What would we have to give up for him if true and we want to recruit him?
It's a tough one isn't it. The GWS may prefer players to picks being in a flag window, but they don't have much in the way of glaring weaknesses across the field. They do seem to have to shed 2 to 3 decent players per year for unders due to cap room but we don't even have a rd2 pick this year. Future 2nd and a player maybe?

Good contested mark. Good kick. Still young will develop into a gun.
No offense but Jack Leslie has played absolute bugger all in 4 seasons at a club who has arguably the worst list in the AFL. He must have clear deficiencies to not break into that side. We have Schade, don't need another Gold Coast scrub defender. Lever is there he should be our priority. The only guy I'd look at on the GC would be KK as a running defender.

Maybe we can provide Mayne to strengthen their NEAFL side.

Sorry to intrude. What do you think you guys would be willing to give up for Weiderman in terms of draft picks this year?

Havent heard anything just genuinely curious to see how other clubs rate what he's worth?

Looked good on the weekend. Can't judge him off one game though.

Is anyone else alarmed that we are "re-signing up our uncontracted players" and we have a whole heap of uncertainty around the football department- list managers- and of course the coach?

These are the kinds of decisions that set you back even further.
Amateur stuff.

We need to keep our first round pick for a possible Jake Lever trade so the best we could do is either two second round picks or one second round pick plus a young player.

A pick in the late teens at best. Hasn't showed enough in his time at the Demons to warrant the equivalent of what you guys paid for him at draft time. I'm not convinced he'll even make it yet.

It's an interesting question. In the small amount of games that I have actually seen him play he has been ineffectual.

Over his career to date he has averaged 3 kicks and half a goal per game. Poor output for a KPF. However, he was never a high possession player at TAC cup level. I am not sure that we could afford to have two low possession KPF's in one team.

I can't remember who the the article was by but it moreorless stated that he had bad ankles as a junior, was not fast and does not have much depth in his kicking and went missing for large parts of the game and if his name was not Weideman and he was not a KPF would there be the interest. He went at pick 9 so one would assume that he must have some talent. A low second round pick?

I am starting to lean towards Motlop being a viable option through FA. Ticks all the boxes the club needs, elite skills, speed and at 26 could still play 100 games.

Don't know about the rumors regarding his body but I tend to ignore most BF opinion. Remember Crisp couldn't kick for shite and Varcoe was the softest player the AFL had ever seen.

Obviously, I'd expect the club to do their due diligence. So if Motlop made his way to the club through FA years end then I would be comfortable with that, it makes sense a hell lot more than the Mayne fiasco. Maybe the real target was Lyon! :flushed:

How's Schade working out for us? Recruit for guys that will improve your best 22 because at worst it'll squeeze a guy out that's currently in there. Close doesn't do that.

FWIW McStay is massively underrated in these parts it seems.
Schade was a rookie draft addition. Playing 8 games in the seniors, including a highlight of stopping Buddy helping us beat Sydney is a decent return from a rookie pick in yr1.

We also brought in Dunn for a 4 position down grade in the 3rd round of the draft, aka basically nothing, and Dunn has played 15 games and has been great for us.

Bringing both in improved our list of 40ish. Not everyone you bring in will immediately impact the best 22.

We are still light on for KPP, but spending 2 first rounders on a guy like Lynch isn't the only way to change the list structure. Could hit the draft, get a KPP with our pick6 and add a ready made senior option on the cheap.

Good god.. and I thought some suggestions on this page were dubious. Thank Christ these fans aren't in our recruiting department! One bloke doesn't even know which end of the ground McGovern plays and the Goldstein in and Grundy to FF scenario is mind boggling:

'Sort out our defence'
I would try and push for a trade for Jake Lever, as we are sorely lacking in the defensive department. The midfield is stacked and the forward line is not too bad. We also need to delist some of the least-used players or try to trade for picks so we can lure Lever.
- Joshua Donnell, Devonport Tas

'Bring in the big boys'
Key position players are essential at both ends of the ground, so that would be the first area of attack in the off-season. Midfield and ruck stocks are quite considerable at the moment, so there is no need to go after players in these areas. Players like Adelaide pair Jake Lever and Mitch McGovern would be targets down back, and a handy second forward to possibly be an option or back-up for Darcy Moore and Ben Reid.
- Jesse Hone, Mooroolbark Vic

'Get Goldy'
Bring in Todd Goldstein and throw Brodie Grundy up forward, and that way we don't need to target a key forward. Ben Reid can play as third forward or go down back that way. Jake Lever is a must. Without a first-round pick we have to get creative.
- Abraham Herasan, Sunshine West Vic

Dream trades
Steele Sidebottom and a first-round draft pick to Gold Coast for Tom Lynch.
- Taylor Harrison, Melbourne Vic

Shaun Burgoyne for third-round draft pick.
- Paul Davis, Hamilton Vic

Matt Scharenberg and Scott Pendlebury to Adelaide in exchange for Jake Lever and the Crows' second-round selection. Steele Sidebottom and Collingwood's 2018 first-round selection to Gold Coast for Tom Lynch.
- Steve Merry, Northcote Vic

Second-round draft pick and a future first-round draft pick to Gold Coast for Peter Wright and second-round draft pick.
- Jayke Lloyd-Roeby, Diggers Rest Vic

Yes, it was terrible to read that people could possibly think they were viable options and then to have them published with their names on it....Wow wee! I hope they were informed pre quote!
