Why do people keep suggesting trading out our young players that haven't matured and will therefore be under value for shitty value picks that amount to nothing, for players at ground zero who posters would float for trade in another two years time?

The carousel of stupidity never stops.
You've got to be 18 and played zero AFL games or averaging 30 disposals a game to be rated on this board. It's best to ignore this thread, there are some truly horrendous posts in it.

Will become a hard at it, lead up medium forward.
I think there are big question marks on his kicking, crumbing ability and athleticism. Right now he's basically an undersized marking forward who can't do much else. Fasolo and Elliott are similar in style but clearly much better players. Kirby is a more powerful athlete, already better than Crocker in the air and has a much stronger game at ground level with fitness the only thing holding him back.

So I guess I was surprised that we re-signed him for 2 reasons. (1) I don't think he's demonstrated that he has the scope for improvement to be good at AFL level; and (2) He starts behind three better/more talented players when it comes to competing for a spot in his position in the 22. He hasn't shown an ability to play anywhere else and since the three others are years off retirement I feel as if we are wasting a position on the list by re-signing him.

Thinking out loud-

Thoughts of trading pick 6 to the Hawks for pick 32 and 2018 first rounder?

Pick 32 and 36 to lions for 18?

Leaves us with 18, (30 for Fas?) and 2 x 2018 first rounders.
I don't see Hawthorn falling to bottom 3 next year and that's where you'll need to be to land one of these key position players people are raving about I assume.

Besides we aren't in a position where we can wait a further 12 months to bring in some quality young prospects.

Personally I'm leaning towards trying to turn pick 6 and Fasolo (if he wants to go home) into picks 12+13 or Schache + 13 and hope one of Balta, Coffield, Stephenson or Fogarty slide to our pick.

You do realize there are "C" graders on every list, that can play an important role to the team. The 4 preliminary finalists have some "C" graders playing a role this weekend.

Of course. Goes without saying you will have a mix of role type players mixed with elite.

I just have the view we don't have enough talent on the list and players like Crocker don't strike me as talented enough to improve our list.

Anyway onwards and upwards

Don't need to, scoring goals in a poor team v scoring goals in a dominate team are two different propositions. They were comparable this year when both teams have played similarly poor.
A 6th place finish and bombing out in the qualifying final hardly constitutes playing in a dominant team. His personal form isn't dependent on his teams fortunes, if that was the case he would have been AA last year instead of being dropped for poor form.
On a side note have you ever posted anything of value. Or do you just negate things without adding insight or reason?
Given our respective post to like ratios I'd wager I've contributed significantly more value to these forums than you. If you can't work out why Stringer is a better talent than Fasolo that's your problem, not mine. Maybe a re-watch of Stringers best footy as I suggested will tell you all you need to know.

Agree. But we must keep him if Sideboob is traded.
I think Sidey being traded is a Big Footy pipe dream. There's been no indication from the club that it's on the cards and I doubt they'd consider it given he's one of the few players on our list who's signed on for significant unders and ignored FA.

I think we can if it means that the players we bring in next year are better than those we bring in this year. The scenario gives us a top 20 pick this year as well as 2 potential top ten picks in 2018 (I can see the Hawks not making the 8 again next year) and still keep our 2018 second rounder. It's a good draft to top up on talent and needs wholenalso opening up cap space with delistings and retirements.

People unfortunately thinking there are diamonds in the rough everywhere. Reality is, there rarely is.

Phillips is a hard one, I can't stand blokes who have crap disposal, the thing is he is still very young and that could change.

I like that he is a great runner.
I've heard this a few times. I must confess not to have noticed this consistent butchering people keep referring to.

It's not even that. The young players that get lampooned on here are pretty good. I mean Phillips is a case in point, not being recognised for his accomplishments which are pretty bloody good at his age.

There are no other teams.
I remember a bloke named Phillip Walsh a young left footer who left after a fantastic first season. Why do people want to see our youngsters playing elsewhere?
Not sure that's a great example.

Phillip Walsh had an outstanding first year for us. Probably would've won the Rising Star if it was around then.

He left of his own volition & really never recaptured that form at Rich or the Bears.

Where has the Phillips talk come from?
It's moreso that he hasn't signed yet. Although he expects it will be done, it sounds like it could go either way.

With that said I think most people, myself included, are looking at disposable players who might have some sort of trade currency.
