This is why next year we need to replace greenwood and Blair from game one with broomhead and aish and find out if they have what it takes. Goldsack needs to be slowly phased out throughout the year as well as Varco. 2019 we should be phasing Lenny Kravitz out although I suspect injuries would probably do that anyway.
Was on board until you got to Goldsack.
The bloke is a beast and took his game to a whole new level last year. Best 22 easily for mine.

Who is Lenny Kravitz? I mean.. I know who sung American Woman but who is our version of LK?

The biggest correlation between the rise of those two clubs was sweeping changes to the FD. We had the perfect opportunity to do the same recently but it looks like we've blown that opportunity.
We'll see.
I don't believe the changes have stopped.

IF a Player asks for a Trade you do it espically 1 out of Contract.

I am happy to Trade Phillips as I don't think he adds anything Awsome
I think that Phillips Manager is just shopping around to 'test' his $ value in the market before closing deal with Collingwood.
He would only request a trade if the $$ didn't match up.
Manager just doing due diligence.
Players agreeing new terms during October will become more prevalent.
This applies to fringe or the 15-40 range players.
Clubs will obviously lock their big names away as early as possible.

I definitely don't think we will willingly trade Phillips.

He does hurt opponents and is not vanilla. He has the most important attribute any modern player can have: elite running power. It's what makes game plans possible, as players who can not run to position are useless no matter how skilled. It's this running power that allows hm to amass disposals (number 1 for uncontested disposals per game for rising stars in 2017). Later in the season he also started to get into more dangerous positions and ended with 9 goals from 18 games, not disastrous for a midfielder. More impressively, he was 2nd among rising stars for score involvements per game and 4th in goal assists per game. That hurts opponents.

To this point he has proven that he can be a good, solid player at AFL level (lots of these who have had long careers). At 21 he has scope to improve that by working on positioning and decision making. Two things that naturally improve for any player. How far he goes depends how much he improves, but his 2017 was definitely a very good one, certainly above what most would have expected.

Running power has been a weakness for us as a team and it's one thing we have improved on IN 2017. Players like Phillips and yes, even Smith, have helped as has WHE.

Elliott, Daicos and Kirby say Hi.

Stringer AA in 2015, Premiership Player in 2016 and sacked in 2017...

If you don't realise he comes with massive baggage, you haven't been able to read between the lines on this one.

We don't need an uncontrollable cowboy at this stage with our young list.
Hardly an uncontrollable cowboy.
A marriage breakup for a young guy of 23 with 2 kids can be extremely traumatic and distracting.
As you said yourself, AA and a premiership player and still young.
Back your own system in to straighten him out.
But of course it won't happen.

Just keep on recruiting grunt players.

Wells! Goldsack is great I agree but do you think he will be there during our next premiership? We need to find out over the next 12-18 months if Sharenberg and Langdon can step up.

There are no other teams.
Degoey. As in "Are you goin Degoey my way?"
I thought it was referring to an ex player of ours, Clokey. (Yeah I know it wasn't really)

Rockin' out with his **** out.

I can't post the clip, as I've been warned not to post it again.:D

On the whole I'm not interested in comparing the two at all because Phillips won't ever reach Steele's level for the reasons I outlined in my post and it's largely irrelevant when discussing their respective trade values.

Steele if traded to St Kilda could generate us pick 8 and Savage, IMO. Phillips might generate a 2018 2nd round pick or a player exchange. Pick 8 allows us a shot at Coffield and a KPP in the top 10. Coffield is one that I would back in to reach the heights of Steele rather than Phillips.

It's all about maximising value which trading Steele has more potential to do because he generates the better trade value relative to how the market views him and automatically stabilises our TPP issues. Others with the single minded and myopic view that a player of Steele's ilk is untouchable will win out because the club doesn't have it in them to do it after the blowback on Shaw, but that doesn't make it the right play only the safe one.
Would of thought the definition of myopic is trading a 26 year old senior, premiership, mentoring, A grade midfielder who is in his prime and has only recently demonstrated great ability to captain the side, to gamble on an unproven youth and a half decent mid sized defender

Phillips will be a good player for us in the 15th-22nd man area. No need to panic yet on a second year kid building game time and experience. As for Steele if the club could ever afford the luxury he would make a very good forward with his goal sense and natural ability to be in the contest around forward packs. Can't trade them all out.
We need to get this current young group playing together over a long period of time to gel

I think the CBA affects all the medium-low earning players. Martin, Kelly and Fyfe all got their money.

Players like Phillips, D.Smith, Savage would be more than happily to leave for an extra 100-150k. If they were on $300,000 and got offered $425,000. That's a massive difference.

A breakup can be hard... at any age... especially with 2 young kids.

Collingwood looked into Stringer and put a line through him. Obviously they would have looked into what happened, and if he continued his commitment to his footy...

Even Bob Murphy stated in the press he had to have seen it coming.

I reckon they did their due diligence... over your grunt players call.

Especially if the reason for the breakup was due to some of the stories that are doing the rounds.
Even if they are half true, don't want him at our club.
