A breakup can be hard... at any age... especially with 2 young kids.

Collingwood looked into Stringer and put a line through him. Obviously they would have looked into what happened, and if he continued his commitment to his footy...

Even Bob Murphy stated in the press he had to have seen it coming.

I reckon they did their due diligence... over your grunt players call.
I don't think we'd have been a consideration for him anyway. His preference is reportedly Geelong because of their strong off field leadership which he's apparently admitted he needs. We aren't exactly strong in that area...

That's only been stated in the last 24hrs.

Before that the message seemed to be he didn't think he needed strong offield leadership.

I think we put a line through him before that.

Then you don't like what is Happening I say don't come back until after Trade Period as this Be Happening until Then
Stop overreacting to these types of things. The fact is the Phillips pros and cons, his trade value, comparisons to Sidebottom, etc have been discussed in depth in this thread and was starting to become a Phillips trade thread.

Hardly an uncontrollable cowboy.
A marriage breakup for a young guy of 23 with 2 kids can be extremely traumatic and distracting.
As you said yourself, AA and a premiership player and still young.
Back your own system in to straighten him out.
But of course it won't happen.

Just keep on recruiting grunt players.
Plus they owe us one after we handed them Cloke!

Why is Sidebottom on the trade block and not Adams?

If we agree that Adams and Sidebottom are comparable to the value they could potentially bring back to Collingwood.

Then surely you trade the player who is poorer user of the ball first.

Also Steele has better leadership qualities. He is acting captain after all when Pendlebury was out injured.
What's with taking it so literally? Steele isn't and won't be up for trade it was a hypothetical to demonstrate the value of two of our outside mids. On the whole I agree trading Adams is preferrable if we were to move one on. Which we won't.

I had to chuckle at the bolded though. Being captain by default doesn't make you a leader. Steele is quite easily the worst captain we've had in my time supporting the club.

Would of thought the definition of myopic is trading a 26 year old senior, premiership, mentoring, A grade midfielder who is in his prime and has only recently demonstrated great ability to captain the side, to gamble on an unproven youth and a half decent mid sized defender
IMO, you don't know what the definition of myopic is judging by that post.

FWIW this is exactly the type of passionate POV I was referring to with that post so thank you for the validation.

It might be time for us to be courageous at the draft table if we want to genuinely build. Adelaide have lost or traded out really good players over the last few years and are still close to a flag. They also don't sell the shop to get what they want e.g. Bryce Gibbs.

Per Barrett from last night, Brisbane have pretty much accepted that the pick they will get as compensation for Rockliff will be an end of first round selection, not a first round selection immediately after their first pick (#1). That would be 18 on the current draft order. Thought that was worth mentioning, given the concerns this week about what Free Agency compensation would mean for any currency gained in a trade of Alex Fasolo. Suppose it would be affected either way, but in the plus column, this scenario doesn't push back our pick 6. Yay...

Hopefully this is the case. They should just have a general rule where free agency compensation can't be in the top ten. If a bottom side loses a good player, give them pick 11.

Reduces the debate a little bit.

What's your reason for this view?
He's too close with Oxley. Fantastic footballer, but when I see words like leader, mentor or captain used in the same sentence involving Steele it's like a red rag to a bull unfortunately.

Edit: think of it as people pumping Swanny up as a leader.

That could actually be good news for us. It means that they can trade one of 18 or 19 to Adelaide for Cameron (which is overs but they'll ask for it) and still have two picks to trade for 6.

I've heard that Luke hodge has been known to spend a bit of time with our Adam. Not sure if Oxley's company makes you a bad leader.
It certainly doesn't make you a good one given you knew exactly where I was going with it.

FWIW Hodge is a terrible example because he's universally rated as a good captain because of his work on field. His work off field isn't what got him to where he is as a leader! Give me Maxwell or Brown as leaders any day over that type.

I'd suggest that rowdy was similar to hodge in that his leadership was all about his work on field - not suggesting that he liked Adam's company, just that he would also fit into your terrible example to use category, if I'm correctly understanding why you consider hodge a terrible example to use.

On the whole I'm not interested in comparing the two at all because Phillips won't ever reach Steele's level for the reasons I outlined in my post and it's largely irrelevant when discussing their respective trade values.

Steele if traded to St Kilda could generate us pick 8 and Savage, IMO. Phillips might generate a 2018 2nd round pick or a player exchange. Pick 8 allows us a shot at Coffield and a KPP in the top 10. Coffield is one that I would back in to reach the heights of Steele rather than Phillips.

It's all about maximising value which trading Steele has more potential to do because he generates the better trade value relative to how the market views him and automatically stabilises our TPP issues. Others with the single minded and myopic view that a player of Steele's ilk is untouchable will win out because the club doesn't have it in them to do it after the blowback on Shaw, but that doesn't make it the right play only the safe one.
I get where you're coming from but I am obviously in your words of the single minded myopic view that Steele is untouchable but not because of any blowback but because I rate the guy and what he brings, the teams with the most talent don't always win premierships, Footscray last year as the most recent example, you need some heart and replacing Steele IMHO is taking that away. He's a Clubman and I hope the only AFL Club he ever plays for is mine and I don't intend changing.

I get this is a trade thread, I just hate the thought of trading guys like Sidey.

IF a Player asks for a Trade you do it espically 1 out of Contract.

I am happy to Trade Phillips as I don't think he adds anything Awsome
I tend to agree, if a player wants out and you can get a deal done, they should go.

Phillips could be a very handy player in the not so distant future but don't think he will win us matches.
