Hardly an uncontrollable cowboy.
A marriage breakup for a young guy of 23 with 2 kids can be extremely traumatic and distracting.
As you said yourself, AA and a premiership player and still young.
Back your own system in to straighten him out.
But of course it won't happen.

Just keep on recruiting grunt players.
No one wanted Dusty a few years back, would have been a perfect understudy for the Great Dane Swan.

I love watching Stringer when he's on, worth a shot absolutely but don't think he'll be playing with us.

What's with taking it so literally? Steele isn't and won't be up for trade it was a hypothetical to demonstrate the value of two of our outside mids. On the whole I agree trading Adams is preferrable if we were to move one on. Which we won't.

I had to chuckle at the bolded though. Being captain by default doesn't make you a leader. Steele is quite easily the worst captain we've had in my time supporting the club.
You could be right (about Steele's captaincy) and not sure of your vintage but it's a pretty impressive list Steele is a part of.

1979–1980 Ray Shaw
1981–1982 Peter Moore
1983–1986 Mark Williams
1987–1993 Tony Shaw
1994–1998 Gavin Brown
1999–2007 Nathan Buckley
2008 Scott Burns
2009–2013 Nick Maxwell
2014– Scott Pendlebury

I'd suggest that rowdy was similar to hodge in that his leadership was all about his work on field - not suggesting that he liked Adam's company, just that he would also fit into your terrible example to use category, if I'm correctly understanding why you consider hodge a terrible example to use.
You haven't understood it if you're comparing Brown to Hodge in this context...

I get where you're coming from but I am obviously in your words of the single minded myopic view that Steele is untouchable but not because of any blowback but because I rate the guy and what he brings, the teams with the most talent don't always win premierships, Footscray last year as the most recent example, you need some heart and replacing Steele IMHO is taking that away. He's a Clubman and I hope the only AFL Club he ever plays for is mine and I don't intend changing.

I get this is a trade thread, I just hate the thought of trading guys like Sidey.
No I don't think you are amongst that group. I just think you might have taken the context of my post a little too literally or at least your final sentence indicates that's the case.

From what I gather he isn't Robinson Caruso and I think to blame him for other players choices when they are all mid 20s is a bit harsh, although obviously doesn't help if he is leading the horse to water.

Ok, I think I get it now. You want an on-field leader, who is also an off-field role model? The issue is that the off-field leaders aren't usually defined by the leadership roles given out by the club. I see the captaincy as being somewhat irrelevant to off-field leaders as players will follow those with innate leadership qualities, regardless of whether they have been anointed by the club. Which is why Bucks wanted to break up the 'rat pack', because they were leaders, even though they weren't part of the leadership group. Browny, whilst obviously a great role model was probably not a leader off-field.

Bucks's cultural revolution was understandable, and attempted to address your concerns regarding leaders who liked tyo spend time with Oxley, but I don't really see much correlation in the AFL between positive role models (eg. non-party boys) and onfield success. Give me a team to watch that is full of guys like Dusty, Swan, Hodge, Didak, etc - the premierships will flood in.

Sometimes there is good reason as to why things are inferred and not outwardly stated on very public discussion forums.
