I really like the idea of Saad since he has gotten through this season injury free. His run and carry opens up the game and creates chaos which upsets defensive structures. That is a tremendous boon for our ball movement which needs improvement. We also have a real list need there given Ramsays form and Sinclair and Varcoes injury concerns.

The other I like for similar reasons is Harrison Wigg. He is 60-65m accurate kick that could open up the play with his footskills. And he'd come cheap I reckon, think 3rd or 4th rounder. Probably similar to what we get for Ramsay if he moves west.

If we got Saad and Wigg we'd have two difference makers. One with his pace the other with incisive kicking. It would add so much variety to our backline and would be very positive to our ball movement.
Speed's the issue here I believe. To my knowledge he's Sucklingesque and whilst Suckling would provide us with a kicking weapon I don't think we can take the punt on a guy with one trick on the senior list unless they're a proven AFL quantity with that trick.

Haven't seen a lot of Saad if I'm honest. Is he actually a smart and good ball user? Or a run at all costs type like our old mate Harry O?
Quicker then Harry and a better kick.

Not an amazing kick but would be above average which I would say Harry's kicking was right on average

I don't think Wigg is lightening quick but I understand he isn't a plodder either. He's also shown at SANFL level he can go into the middle and win clearances and contested footy so he has more to his game than just kicking. It's different at AFL level obviously but he hasn't been given any opportunity there to show one way or the other.

Question, why do most on here think Schache is gettable after just resigning? If Lions really put him on the table can't see them accepting anything less than a 1st rounder. I would offer up one of Grrenwood/Thomas/Keefe and pick 36.

I think schache is available, but at what price though. They will want our first and then some. Not worth it.

If the bolded is the case is it really worth offering the underlined? They'll laugh that off if they even bother to answer.

I don't rate him, but if there's a chance the club are keen on him the most I'd feel comfortable with them giving up is 6 and 18 comes back our way with Schache as a minimum.

Josh Schaches stats are very similar to a Darcy Moore's and we have been very happy to be patient with him while he gets experience and bulks up. Schache is still under 100kgs and only 2 seasons into a career. I think with a move closer to family that the upside is huge for him. I personally love the idea of having 2 young key forwards playing for us that still have 10 years in front of them. I'd give up pick 6 for that.
Yep. Certainly prefer Schache + pick 18 for our pick 6... than pick 6 solely spent on KPPs like Brander, Hayes, etc.

The caveat for me is the $$$ and number of years in a Schache deal. Imagine it will take a 4 year deal to land him... which is the max I would offer.. but at what salary, KPIs, etc?

"He has already been linked to Collingwood although there is expected to be several suitors when his intentions become public."

Another quality nothing statement. Linked where, by whom? This seems to me like another "Mention Collingwood and the clicks will come" type article. If it were to pan out, I'm not sure how I woulld feel about it. Saad is an OK player, but not much more imo.

Any thoughts on who might be available in the draft at around pick 18?

Laird is a jet mate! He's clearly the best small defender in the game and probably the best at his craft since Chris Johnson. IMO, he's the Crows most important player today and if he has a good one they win.

I'd also have Saad behind N Smith, Kennedy, Baguley and Vlastuin as well as Jetta, Laird and Hibbered in that small to mid size defender role, but that movement is hard to resist as someone that hates watching the Collingwood crabs run around.

In our defensive mix with the likes of Scharenberg, Howe and Langdon so adept at winning the ball yet conservative with how they use it he'd be a tremendous asset. Think Smith with a desire to move the ball with purpose and a defensive game.
That all well and good... But is a slight upgrade on Smith worth a first round pick?
