With toxic negotiations developing between Melbourne and Adelaide we are perfectly placed to
a) Get Lever for unders.
b.) Most likely scenario do an O'Meara deal with Melbourne so we improve our overall draft position.
c.) Possibly get Lever in the draft at pick 6.

Either way, I think we are approaching this very well.
I really hope they can play this one smart.
Yeah I dont see A or C happening.
If Melbournes 10 and 27 is turned down (which IMO is a fair price) I can't see Adelaide accepting any less. Even Pick 6 on its own (or equivalent) is not Unders IMO - and doesnt sound like Adelaide would accept it.

B however sounds like a possibility - if we could do a St Kilda and somehow scrounge an upgrade of picks from Melbourne then that would be a pretty decent outcome.

I still haven't seen any convincing argument as to why would want to convert an excellent 3rd intercepting/rebounding tall defender into an nullifying key position defender when you can get one who can do just as good a job for about half as much.

Do you a take a ready made proven gun with 10 years locked in your backline or risk pick 6 on a potential dud or a serviceable player who'll take 2-3 years to mature. Chances of being a star are small.

I know which way I'd go.
Which is why Lever will cost more than Pick 6.

Yeah Lever makes sense if we're moving out someone like Scharenberg, Langdon or Reid. All three are solid AFL players and if paying top dollar for Lever means one of those three are playing seconds in 2018 then it's a pretty bad result imo.

The problem with trading Shaz is that I think we're losing a good player for a rock bottom price, and with Lever we're buying a very good player for a premium price. It doesn't seem like good business to me and would prefer we focussed on fixing more immediate positional problems of which there are several including the two you mentioned.
This makes the most sense regarding lever objections. I have my doubts about scharenberg but he's not worth anything at the moment anyway so value can only increase.

I do like the look of Balta so would like him. Maybe this 6 & 36 for two mid first rounds is the way to go and romance lynch this year.

The thing is, we would be doing Melbourne a favor if it was just, 6 and 36 for 10 and 27, that might be 'fair', but the club must be machiavellian. Make the Dees thrown in more.

Once they have pick 6 they will likely be in the O'Meara position, especially if the Blues trade pick 4 to an interstate club, GWS.

Can you list Hines picks that were still on the board at pick 6 in all those drafts?

Because he may have picked a different players at 6 then those clubs (outside Schaz obvs).
Most of those clubs have equal to or better than recruiters than ours though, so in all likelihood we would get a very similar outcome.

Yeah I like Balta as well and think he's more of a list fit than Lever atm. As you said also gives us the chance to take a shot at lynch.

Ahh yes a destination club that hasn't won a flag in 53 years, I guess all the math is being done on salary.
Cmon man, I wasn't being rude or anything, just heard Collingwood were interested and then heard the interview with Connors.

I'd suggest we're offering 'overs' both $ to Lever and draft picks to Adelaide.

6 and 36 for 10 and 2018 1st (likely in the 8-14 range).
Lets us take Balta (?) And an extra pick next year.
Lets Melbourne offer 6+27, and now have 36 extra... slightly better outcome for them than giving up both 1sts, slightly better for Adelaide than 10+27?

Any chance?

Hmmm it appears that Melbourne give up two first in your scenario. But I think we are on the same page, there's a good opportunity for the club to exploit the situation.
