6 and 36 for 10 and 2018 1st (likely in the 8-14 range).
Lets us take Balta (?) And an extra pick next year.
Lets Melbourne offer 6+27, and now have 36 extra... slightly better outcome for them than giving up both 1sts, slightly better for Adelaide than 10+27?

Any chance?
Lol Melbourne aren’t going to give up their first round pick in a strong draft for 36 and a 4 pick upgrade...

Cmon man, I wasn't being rude or anything, just heard Collingwood were interested and then heard the interview with Connors.

I'd suggest we're offering 'overs' both $ to Lever and draft picks to Adelaide.
Why are there rumblings of the deal being shaky if that's the case? More like your offering unders according to the Crows.

AFL trades: Carlton, Essendon express interest in Gold Coast speedster Adam Saad

CARLTON and Essendon have emerged as the frontrunners to secure Gold Coast speedster Adam Saad as he explores a return home to Melbourne.

The Suns are understanding of Saad’s family and religious ties which have prompted the explosive backman to strongly consider a move back to Victoria.

But the Blues and Bombers would have to satisfy Gold Coast with a second-round draft pick or equivalent player to seal the deal.

STRINGER WOE: WILL CLUBS STILL WANT UNDER FIRE DOG?

ON THE MOVE: TRADE NEWS AS IT HAPPENS IN OUR LIVE BLOG

The Coburg product finished 10th in the Suns’ best and fairest in his third AFL season and is currently holidaying in Thailand.

Carlton yesterday confirmed it would seek more information from Saad, and his manager, John Meesen from i50, about his intentions for 2018.

“Obviously we would be interested in talking,” Carlton football manager Andrew McKay said.

“But he has got to make up his mind to be really sure he wants to come home to Melbourne.”

The Blues will be in a stronger position to land Saad, 23, if star midfielder Bryce Gibbs renews his request to be traded to Adelaide, as expected.

Unfortunately, both Billy and The PoP were woeful this year when it came to forward pressure, pressing, tackling, etc.

Two players in the forward 50 who can't give you manic forward pressure is a liability.
Billy's fitness was probably an issue in him not applying the firward pressure that he is capable of. Hopefully a different story next year.

I have never worked out why posters don't like their opinion being described as an opinion. Thats what most of these discussions are based on our different opinions. If the numbers support your opinion great, doesn't change what you have expressed here being your opinion.

At the end of the day you can describe my opinion as idiocy, fools gold and making you want to vomit but it's still my opinion.

I just see evidence in Lever's game that he will become a great tall defender and the key to whatever backline he plays in. His intercept ability, his defensive positioning, his ability to kill contests, read play and see attacking options up the field is way above his experience level for mine. You don't share that opinion and it doesn't seem we are likely to influence each others much.
I'd be worried about the potential cost being bandied around for Lever, but I also concur with you in that I think he'll be a whole lot more than just a third tall. Take the Rance comparison for example. Its a bit unfair to compare a 28yo Rance to a 21yo Lever. At Levers age, I'd argue that Rance was an inferior player to what Lever is currently. Its a bit of a gamble trying to predict how he'll turn out, but I definately don't think he'll just be a 3rd tall intercept type player in the mould of what Langdon and Scharanberg currently are.

2 First round picks, and 4-5 years @ $8-900K though is just not sensible considering where our team currently sits imo

It's almost certain that Lever will go to Dees. These decisions are made early and hardly ever change. It seems we're playing the role of Richmond in the Treloar deal here.

Hypothetically though, I'd give up two first rounders if we didn't have to give up next years. eg. somehow getting 12 and 18 from Brisbane for 6 and something.

Lever is going to be a gun KPD, almost no doubt in that. He's a leader who would be our backline general for 10 years. Would be a huge signing for us.

Not as big as it used to. Talent id is a much more exact science these days, but there will always be late developers and Hail Marys that get picked later and turn in to guns.
I keep hearing this, but can't say that I'm seeing any evidence of improved hit rates. In fact, at the very top end we seem to be getting less accurate. It used to be that the first 3 picks in the draft were considered pretty much sure things; however in the last few years, after supposedly the science has become more exact, we've seen McCartin, Boyd, Schache, Bennell, O'Rourke, Plowman and Day taken in the top 3. It's early days for some of them, but jeez they're not looking like good value selections.

Rance opponents at 21 were a monster in Cloke, Roughead, Franklin, N.Reiwoldt etc.

He came in and had to play KP and got the odd spanking too as a lot of young key backs do.

Lever has only played a few quarters on actually KPF and was towelled.
Generally Hartigan, Kelly and Talia take the big jobs.

And Ben Reid and Nathan Brown were premiership KPP's by age 21, playing on Franklin, Roughead, Reiwoldt etc...

Sure, I get all that. We are all chrystal-balling when it comes to how he develops. Regardless of the opponents he currently plays on, all I'm saying is there is nothing to suggest he can't become a high quality KPD given time and natural development. I think he will but its only opinion. Personally, I think we can find cheaper options and would take a wide berth at the current cost being suggested.
