Its tough.

Id probably go:

Fasolo, Moore, Goldsack
Varcoe, Watts, Elliott

Goldsack, Elliott and Varcoe add that defensive pressure. But we would have the option of swinging Reid forward if we want another tall, and Goldsack back.

De Goey would also play a lot forward.

The question is whether Cox fits in
I dont mind it , fasolo really needs to lift the defensive pressure and you dont have a crumber in there which we are screaming out for (sidebottoms prob our best atm) . I rate WHE and expect him to come on even further next yr. Get the mix right i think we are a top 6 side.

Considering the Demons have effectively publicly announced that Watts is surplus to requirements, surely he could be picked up for a song? You'd think they'd do the right thing by him and move him on to his preferred destination without too much quibbling considering they signed him up a year ago and are now shafting him?

If we could nick him for a later pick I'd actually be pretty pleased. Change of scenery might work wonders, and if it doesn't it was just the expenditure of a late pick which we've spunked up lately anyways.
We have? Last time I checked our last two years we’ve grabbed Phillips, Wills, Kirby, Daicos and Crocker with late picks. That’s pretty good for picks in the 50’s and 60’s imo.

HFF unless you can show us something from the club

Agree, can we also red card anyone that has a anti Bucks rant running thru these posts. If yes can I nominate HFF as the first recipient
Nominate me?
Wow, such a touchy soft bunch.
No one dare mention Nathan's name…
No wonder our supporter base is appeased so easily.
Players we are linked to is a reflection of many of our supporters.
Perfect fit.

I reckon if we were to get Watts he'd need to play higher up the field with Moore the deep option. Which I don't think plays to Moores strengths but I just don't think Watts can be a full forward. They need an appetite for the contest Watts lacks and it takes him out of where he seems comfortable where he can be a hit up target and wheel back towards goals.

To me it would need to be:

HF: ~ Wells ~ Watts ~ WHE
FF: ~ Fasolo ~ Moore ~ Elliot

I think i'd prefer to try releasing Moore up field and leave Reid at full forward. Bank the cap space for Lynch next year.

I'm very much on the fence about Watts because he has some good qualities. But i'm leaning towards no.
Im conflicted having elliot and fasolo in the same forward line i dont know why i should like it but i dont.

Watts is more a tall flanker, Mobil 3rd tall. Stick him at ff or chf and watch him disappear, never any good as the main man. Keep Moore at chf and watts in either of whe or wells spots.

If we could grab:
-Watts with next year's 2nd round pick (hopefully ends up somewhere in the 30's!)
-Saad by trading Josh Smith and/or Lachie Keeffe (Suns have enough draft picks -they want players)
-and keep pick 6 in this year's draft (best available)

...then I'd be pretty happy.

Champion data has watts ranked as one of the best players in the comp at delivering the ball inside 50. Clearly an area of concern for us.

As i said earlier, if the trade is really cheap for us, id be happy with it. I wouldn't want to downgrade our pick 6 though. I think pick 36 and later pick. Dees should be happy with that because it frees up cap space and they likely wont have a pick in the top 50 of they offer their 1st and 2nd for Lever
He really is a valuable player, I'd be surprised if we only had to part with Pick 36 for him.

Having two elite field kicks receiving on the wing/half-back in Moore and Watts would be huge for us.

Crameri is an interesting one. I quite like him as a player. You really have to forget his last two years though. He got the Bomber drug ban then came back and was injured for most of this year. If he can get his body right he can be a dangerous forward. Before his ban he kicked 30 plus goals 5 years in a row (not always full years either).

He is not going to come at any huge cost and that is the key, we can't afford to be throwing money and picks at Jack Watts who is unproven when compared to someone like Crameri - its basic moneyball principles.

Was sort of joking, but the Bucks thing has been done to death. We all know you're not happy, in 12 or 24 months you can gloat and call us stupid or you can be happy we are doing well.
I was having a bit of fun at your continued rage, I'm certainly not touchy about it, he has been re appointed, our fighting really should stop.

That's a problem too. Stick him on a flank and the forward balance gets too tall.

Not sure if you heard the way that Mahoney from the Demons talked about him today, but he basically threw Watts under the bus and said they wanted him gone. Some Dees fans on the trade board now saying they’d be surprised if they got better than a 3rd for him now. 36 should do it now they’ve publicly shat on him.

Pretty good picks sure, but other than Flipper who I'm partial too, wouldn't rate any of them above Watts in terms of consistency or proven AFL ability.

Reckon Kirby and Daicos have the potential to become better players, but as 1st year players they’re never going to be better than someone who’s been in the system for a decade right off the bat.

Not arguing Watts would be good value at a later pick, just thought it was odd that you’d say we weren’t using our late picks well when it’s actually been a strength of ours recently.

I don't mind Watts as a player. On his day he is very effective. Beautiful kick etc. But...How many chances has he had to pull his finger out at Melbourne? He comes across to me as someone who is just going to drift through his career without giving it his absolute best crack. Clearly Melbourne think that this is the case. If he came to Collingwood, I would hope that its with a deep fire burning in his belly to prove everyone wrong, but I honestly doubt that he would.

To be honest I am not sure I want to burn 36 on Watts. Don't think he addresses a real list need therefore would rather pass than use 36.

If he hit a list need yes, but don't think he does.

You do realise that who we are linked to in the media is not necessarily who we're actually linked to?

To be honest I’m not sold on the idea of getting him either, but in a shallow draft pick 36 doesn’t hold much significance, so it wouldn’t bother me greatly to give it up either.
