And thats fair enough - and I'm not gonna strongly argue whether he's 10-16 or 16-22. Personally, in a healthy back 6 I would have all of Howe, Dunn, Shaz, and either/both Crisp/Maynard ahead of him. If he's not in our top 3-5 defenders, then is he really in our top 15? (but thats a moot point really, and again, not one I'm too fussed about).

But it still comes down to where the club rates him - and subsequently, what contract are they willing to offer. The fact that he hasn't signed on yet, and the rumour listed, suggests that there is a significant gap between where the club rates him (or what they are willing to offer) and where Langdon rates himself (or what contract he wants, or is being offered from elsewhere).
I would suggest that if the club rated him closer to our top 10, then our offer would rise, and a deal would probably be done quicker.
Could be money or length of contract or even both, or the Lynch decision is holding everything up.

Young has the height (197cm), is a good athlete and is a high level intercept mark who walked into the Dogs side with 21 disposals and 9 marks followed by 16 disposals and 10 marks as one of if not the youngest player taken in his draft in 2016. He has had x2 13 mark and a 10 mark game in the VFL this year, and he's not even 20-years old yet. So he's one if he can be pried free could develop into a monster.

If North don't want Thompson I'd jump at the opportunity to sign him. He secured 322 disposals and 120 marks from 21 games (still durable and still productive) and importantly in 1v1 contests is still very capable. I don't have his 1v1 numbers for this year, but last year he was ranked second of the top 25 1v1 defenders. He's still a clear best 15 key defender in the competition for mine.
Young sounds like a great option. You'd reckon Naughton and Adams have the incumbency and Young might get lured with the promise of game time.

Speaking of Key Defenders, why hasn't Kieran Collins at WB not been able to establish himself? Should we look at him?

Is he too slow, not good enough?

Knightmare any thoughts?

That would only work if Thompson gets delisted. If he was offered a contract by North you'd need to offer an incentive to motivate a move. That likely needs to be contract length and amount. Not sure where North stand on the contract but I reckon they'd be mad not to extend him
North might offer 1. Pies could offer more coin and/or a 1 year deal with a games based criteria that guarantees a second year that would trump North's offer I suppose.

But yeah, he probably wants to be a one club player and after letting go of Waite... North will probably hang onto him.

Agreed - but that hasn't stop some other contracts to be agreed upon.

The way I see it, I reckon the clubs list management over the last few months has been (or at least, I hope it has been): unless we are desperate to keep you, we are going to set a minimum bar of what we think you are worth, and not budge too much from that point until the big pieces fall.

De Goey is in the first category (I would argue so was Shaz when his contract was done pre-injury).
Most of the other signings have probably fit the second group.

I don't think Langdon fits that first group just yet - so the club have probably said: this is our number. If you want more, wait to see what happens elsewhere.

If Andy Otten gets delisted by the Crows, we should pick him up on the minimum to cover Shaz and Dunn for 2019. He seemed to look the goods against Ben Brown on the weekend, so may still be able to contribute.
Andy Otten has had a heap of injuries so no good for us.

Thompson is an awesome player and perfect as that year or two stop gap with an understanding he's filling space. obviously. as an aside Ive always found his niggle amusing, lying over players on the ground etc

You can be Jeremy McGovern and get the largest salary in WA football history. So while slow, speed isn't my greatest concern with key defenders.

A year ago I might have been interested in Collins, but he hasn't come on. Lack of development since entering the AFL system makes me think he won't come good.

Langdon is a top 15 player.
I got Langdon in the 16-20 range. I did the a few weeks back in groups of 5 based on the proviso that Elliott and Reid would be available. Top 15 are really strong and next 5 is great too.

Outside Buckley in 1994, why haven’t we been able to land a BIG fish?
Biggest club, Hollywood status & no doubt helps future prospects.

Any love for Dylan Shiel and Paul Seedsman?

A friend that knows Shiel well believes he is edging towards coming home this year despite having a year left on his contract. He is a RFA next year. Reports have linked him to Carlton (1. because of the link with Silvagni and 2. because they desperately need every type of player), but he has little interest.

Has missed only one game over the past 3 seasons, averages 25 possessions per game; 4 tackles; 4 I50's; 5 clearances; 3 stoppages and he turns 26 next March

Seedsman is out of contract and he and Adelaide are apparently a long way apart. Has had a career best season (after a poor one last season with only 5 games). Has averaged 21 possessions off HB/ wing, 500m gained per game, 4 I50's per game and 12 goals for the season.

Collingwood can (and in my view should) go all in on Lukosius. Irrespective of how close to contention the club may think they are.

Best on ground last night for Henley in their win against Prince Alfred College. His kicking was flat out ridiculous. He'll kick to what looks like a contest and pick a needle out of a haystack. He was reading the ball in flight as soon as it left the boot and was in position each time to take the intercept mark simply. And playing as a key defender, he would push up to full forward and run all the way back. *Though I'd draft him to play key forward and let him simply run free end-to-end as he feels content.

If interested, it's worth reading my piece in my signature on who Carlton should pick with pick 1 if you need any convincing.
*Spoiler - think of Lukosius as Nick Riewoldt if he could kick like Ben Reid circa 2011 and the best I've seen in my 10 years covering the draft.

Two players I consider overvalued commodities certainly internally, externally harder to say. But Darcy Moore and Jamie Elliott are two I would have no issue with trading. Moore is a nice to have, but ultimately he is potential over performance and his persistent hamstring issues I suspect will be an ongoing problem with Collingwood historically having trouble with repeat injury types. Similarly with Jamie Elliott with his ankles. Only 17 games over three years, none this year. You're not providing the list any value if you're sitting in the stands.

If it means Moore, Elliott, Fasolo and maybe Langdon and a 2019 pick need moving, I'm open to exploring what trade can be made. Brayden Sier if they want a young mid could be an alternative to one of those pieces if he is willing to move for greater opportunity and responsibility.

Lukosius is a Nathan Buckley level opportunity and in the clubs position of greatest need. With Collingwood a winning/competitive team, the club are in a position to get the most out of him. Like Buckley, Lukosius has the scope to become the best in the game, and in combination with Grundy it would feel like Collingwood are two players up every week with both practically playing like extra midfielders at their positions.

Lukosius is almost certainly going to be at Carlton unless Adelaide can wheel and deal their way to the top as they are rumoured to be trying. We don't have quite that same pull at this year's draft, and almost certainly will be getting Kelly and Quaynor.

Can we have a poll

A) Who wants lynch

B)
Who would pass

C)
Who wants him just to piss off richmond.

Personally I’m torn between B and C
B and C for me too.
Couldn't give a rats if he comes or not. Our forward line is doing well and is only going to get better with experience.

But maybe he is worth 1.2 mill a year just to see the melts.

Hi Knightmare, I still can’t see how we can land him. Essentially we would need the first pick in the draft so do you think Carlton would be willing to trade their first for Moore, Elliot and our first? Or next year’s first? Or do you think we may be able to get a top 10 pick for Moore from another club (maybe the Saints first if it goes to the Swans), and give that to Carlton with our first and Elliot/Sier?

I think you’d need to give up Sidebottom and a top 10 pick to even get Carlton thinking about it.

I haven’t really seen Lukosius and he may have the potential to be a great player. But what actually makes him that good? Is he a big contested marking forward who has good skills and endurance? If he isn’t a great contested mark, is he simply a skilled midfielder who happens to be tall?

I’d happily give up Moore, Elliot and a first for the opportunity to find out, however, I’m no so sure the Blues (I’m assuming Moore won’t go to the GC) would be interested.
