Collingwood can (and in my view should) go all in on Lukosius. Irrespective of how close to contention the club may think they are.

Best on ground last night for Henley in their win against Prince Alfred College. His kicking was flat out ridiculous. He'll kick to what looks like a contest and pick a needle out of a haystack. He was reading the ball in flight as soon as it left the boot and was in position each time to take the intercept mark simply. And playing as a key defender, he would push up to full forward and run all the way back. *Though I'd draft him to play key forward and let him simply run free end-to-end as he feels content.

If interested, it's worth reading my piece in my signature on who Carlton should pick with pick 1 if you need any convincing.
*Spoiler - think of Lukosius as Nick Riewoldt if he could kick like Ben Reid circa 2011 and the best I've seen in my 10 years covering the draft.

Two players I consider overvalued commodities certainly internally, externally harder to say. But Darcy Moore and Jamie Elliott are two I would have no issue with trading. Moore is a nice to have, but ultimately he is potential over performance and his persistent hamstring issues I suspect will be an ongoing problem with Collingwood historically having trouble with repeat injury types. Similarly with Jamie Elliott with his ankles. Only 17 games over three years, none this year. You're not providing the list any value if you're sitting in the stands.

If it means Moore, Elliott, Fasolo and maybe Langdon and a 2019 pick need moving, I'm open to exploring what trade can be made. Brayden Sier if they want a young mid could be an alternative to one of those pieces if he is willing to move for greater opportunity and responsibility.

Lukosius is a Nathan Buckley level opportunity and in the clubs position of greatest need. With Collingwood a winning/competitive team, the club are in a position to get the most out of him. Like Buckley, Lukosius has the scope to become the best in the game, and in combination with Grundy it would feel like Collingwood are two players up every week with both practically playing like extra midfielders at their positions.
Knightmare, I usually agree with your views, but trading Moore, Elliot, Fasolo, Langdon & Sier for an 18-year old kid- that’s insanity. 4/5 players for 1 player. Lukosius could become the best in the game, but we can’t be getting rid off 5 (potential) Best 22 for the next 10+ years for an 18- year old kid.

I understand your rationale, but I think you’re over-estimating the amount of impact Lukosius will have in his first 3-4 seasons. Our premiership window is ajar atm, and I don’t think trading out 5 key members for 1 kid betters our chances of a premiership.

Thanks because that needed to be said. We don’t need to sell the farm for just one player. Especially one who has not played an AFL game yet. Sure he might be a gun, but he might be an injury prone gun as well. Get A strength & conditioning team who can keep Moore & Elliott on the park & we will reap the rewards. Just get best available at our pick. Hine will have someone in mind that may be available at our first pick & hopefully Quaynor & Kelly are added as well. I think if anyone is going to throw a massive deal at Carlton for pick one it will be Adelaide.

I agree with the above posters, you don’t gut a team to get one player no matter how good he can be. If you want to create disharmony with in a group that’s the way to do it.
we should the best kid available at our pick, build by adding talent to talent.

The more I think about it, I think we are better off missing out on Tom Lynch. We should have a massive dip at Joel Kelly. He’s the perfect replacement for Pendles.

If we have over a million $$ free, and we should have a massive dig at Josh Kelly.

He would prefer coming to a Melbourne team in-contention, and playing in front of massive crowds on a weekly basis. North Melbourne, St.Kilda & Carlton are not really in contention at the moment.

Only issue the other clubs will probably offer 500k more than us.

Josh Kelly should be our 2019 Target.

McLarty is a legitimate option also and worth discussing. Perhaps doesn't have the demonstrated performance of some of the other options so it's an interesting discussion. I still reckon McLarty will be a good player for us.
I agree and think we should be promoting this guy into the team. I am still a little perplexed as to why he was moved forward in the first place. His best junior footy was as a back and his form at the end of last year there was terrific. I just wonder whether it was done bc we had Moore moving back there and then a heap of options like Goldsack, Dunn, Howe etc so it was decided to move him forward. If Moore were to go then I wonder if we would move him back. Does my head in a bit!

He's regularly getting 30 disposals, 10 marks pushing high up the wings in the SANFL. He could play the Tom Lynch (Adelaide) role. Very strong mark overhead but has really built that motor to push high up the ground.
Yep he has had a good year but history says not a lot of mature age tall forwards kick on at AFL level on a second chance. Maybe Mihocek changes that view?

Younger version who is going ok is Nathan Krueger. Was impressed with him last year and seen a bit of him this year and is developing nicely.

Moore, Elliott and Fasolo have played 8 AFL games this year between them.

Geez that would be a ballsy move.

I'd be happy with Moore, Elliot, Faz + 2019 pick. Faz isn't best 22 and Moore / Elliot combine to play maybe half a season between them. Not sure Carlton would take that tbh. Perhaps if Walsh goes pick 1 and we offer that package to Gold Coast after? That package of older players may be more appealing to them

Knightmare, if we trade our 1st round pick for this year, how does that impact our ability to match for Quaynor and Kelly? Do we have any potential NGA or Father-Sons coming through next year that we also need to keep 2nd / 3rd round picks for?

Problem is the rating of Langdon, you mite rate him in the bottom six, but does the club, which l think not, by there actions last year bringing him so quickly in the team.
I think you have to at least put him the next six at least in that 10-16 range at the very minimum
Right now Langdon is probably in the top 5 most important players in the team. We need him to hold the backline together.

People are way too harsh on him. Sure we makes some silly errors with his casual disposal, but he does win a lot of contests. Did a great job on Gray last week and will continue to be asked to take on the oppositions dangerous forwards.

While everyone rates Scharenberg very highly, it’s surprising that Langdon is rated so lowly in comparison when he has been given the more difficult role and has performed well.

I think it’s no surprise our backline struggled in previous years while Langdon was out injured. Him coming back into the team (and Dunn), has seen the backline performed so much better leaking far less goals.

So people should give the kid a break. He is a valuable member of our best 22.

Considering that our backline is holding up with the number of freak injuries we have had this year, doesn't that tell us we have good defencive depth? I understand that Dunne is likely to retire next year but I would expect a fit Moore or a mature McLarty to step in (not like for like but would allow some shuffling of roles).

The criticism of Langdon this year is done so by people who have a low footy IQ or have not been following this game for very long.

I got Langdon in the 16-20 range. I did the a few weeks back in groups of 5 based on the proviso that Elliott and Reid would be available. Top 15 are really strong and next 5 is great too.

I did this about 6 weeks ago and in form they'll jump around a bit.

I've always been a big Langdon supporter. Big Adams, Phillips and Langdon fan from the start when they were all copping flack on here.

Yeah I would have thought McLarty as a defender made sense especially given our injuries this year, I was a bit shocked Magden got the call-up ahead of him.

I remember as a 16YO he looked good, then injuries wrecked him a bit and I was a bit meh when we drafted him because of that question mark over where he would play and if he could get back to that 16YO form, especially with Brennan Cox on the board. Nonetheless if he’s on the list I’m puzzled why he hasn’t got a game.

If posters are questioning Langdon after his job on Robbie Gray on the weekend, you genuinely have no clue.

Robbie Gray usually tears us to shreds. He played him perfectly.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of Langdon, but after his performance on the weekend, I’m slowly starting to turn. He still has 2 or 3 bad disposals, apart from that he’s fantastic.

I wouldn’t trade him unless it was a top 25 pick.
190 cm, 24 year old who’s played 75 games, and has the ability to play on smalls/talls.

Lukosius is almost certainly going to be at Carlton unless Adelaide can wheel and deal their way to the top as they are rumoured to be trying. We don't have quite that same pull at this year's draft, and almost certainly will be getting Kelly and Quaynor.
I don't see Carlton picking Lukosius.

If they keep the pick, they are favoured to take Walsh due to their midfield needs.

There is also a real chance a club trades for it. Whether it's Adelaide with their x3 first rounders. Or maybe another club take a shot with a similarly serious offer.
