Grundy is the best in the business and we still struggle to take advantage of his ruck dominance ... do it

Weve had two bloles move into the upper echelon of the AFL - Grundy and DeGoey. Moore looks likely to join them with Stephenson a chance as well. Add to that a core of bloody good mids and Howe and Crisp. With the salary cap, our role players and depth have to be cheap. It's the ugly side of equalisation, but it's that simple.

Pendlebury and Sidebottom would be making gravy right now as having paid their dues, Beams, Treloar, Adams would not be on peanuts. We have many above average players on our books, more than average. It was always going to catch up to us.

I'll fume if we trade Phillips.

You trade people that aren't, or are not going to be, best 22.

Scharenberg was not best 22 in the finals. Quaynor plays the same role. He can go.

Trading Grundy would be the silliest move the club has made in ages.

Instead of kicking a bloke who averages 20 disposals and 40 hitouts, let’s pull some money from the “greatest midfield of all time”.
Hard to disagree. Midfield needs a spruce. They were well beaten in the 19 prelim and 18 GF.

What would we get at the trade table for these guys:

Aish - 1x 2nd rounder?
Phillips - 1x 2nd rounder?
Scharenberg - 1x 3rd rounder?
Wills - 1x 3rd rounder?

Too ambitious?

Collectively what would they earn? $1.5 million p.a.? So, if we replaced them all with draftees, we'd save mabye $1 million p.a. for a year or two, until those draftees' contracts come around for renewal (or delisting). Is that enough to get us out of our salary cap hole?

You are better off losing players that are 15-30 in your best 30 players than 1-15.

Aish, Wills, Cox and Phillips fall in that 15-30.

Each of those has a capable replacement

Aish - Quaynor
Wills - Sier
Cox - Darcy Cameron (to be traded in)
Phillips - Stephenson (Move to the wing)

Wills would be a loss as his tackling was a real feature that our other mids don’t have.
Phillips is comfortably top 15 at club

Still clubs that show daring and make enormous moves usually always get rewarded for it.
Crazy Vossy and his treatment of the Brisbane list like it were a computer game comes to mind actually...

Aish - We may get a future 2nd from Freo
Phillips - Mid to late 1st round pick
Scharenberg - 3rd round pick
Wills - 5th round pick i.e. not much.

Lol Mihocek top 15. Would take Phillips ahead of Adams, as he doesnt turn ball over as much as Taylor. Phillips also has more runs on board than Stephenson although Jayden has potential to go pass Phillips soon.

Okay so you overrate Phillips hugely.

At least we got to the real cause of your post nice and quickly.

I'm gonna take a break from bigfooty til Wednesday night some of these hypotheticals and some of the names being raised are giving me a headache lol. Goodluck all stay safe.

Wells restructed his contract to defer some money to receive in 2019 to 2020.
We will be still paying him next year.

Will it have any bearing to re-sign Grundy, De Goey, Moore? No. But it will have bearing on forcing the likes of Phillips to leave.
He decided to retire. Not sure this is quite right.

Boy oh boy, Phillips ahead of Adams? Stephenson has more talent in his pinkie.
