Essendon showing interest in Cox - tell them to * off.

While a 30 goal per season full forward isn’t top tier, Cox is more than full forward. Ideal second ruck and with his height he attracts 2-3 opponents as a forward, which creates space for others. Outside of Reid or moving Moore (Roughead isn’t a natural forward) we don’t have anyone else on our list capable of playing that role.

Cox doesn’t always mark the footy, but he’s rarely beaten. A quick crumbing player at Cox’s feet would increase his impact.

Have you guys seen D Cameron play? He's putrid... I'll take him for free as a development prospect and backup, but to get near our best 22 would be disastrous. He couldn't get a game at the Swans when all their rucks were injured

Mate exactly! Aliir Aliir was rucking instead of him? And yet people are saying he can play forward for us? Crazy!!!

Ralphy with his weekly "Pies salary cap is tight" story lmao.

Collingwood’s contract talks with Jordan De Goey are expected to go deep into the back-end of next season as the Pies attempt to keep their star-studded list together.

The Pies will have to deal with the ongoing distraction of contract talks for Brodie Grundy, De Goey and Darcy Moore next year as well as captain Scott Pendlebury’s expiring contract.

Collingwood livewire forward De Goey is likely to wait until the second half of the season before considering his contract position after a similar timeline on his 2018 extension.

Collingwood yesterday officially announced a contract extension for Jamie Elliott, with his sense of unfinished business over the club’s premiership hopes a key factor.

He knocked back better offers at Melbourne and Brisbane for a two-year Pies deal, finally injury-free and looking forward to a full pre-season after finishing the season mentally and physically fresh.

Now list boss Ned Guy has to find cap space for a trio of emerging stars including De Goey, Brodie Grundy and Darcy Moore as well as captain Scott Pendlebury.

The issue Guy will have is that trio’s contracts are related given the Pies’ tight cap

If Grundy keeps to his stance of a seven-year deal or bust, he could eventually walk out on Collingwood as a free agent and leave a $1 million gap in the salary cap.

He told the Herald Sun during the finals he was considering a move to Adelaide if he couldn’t secure a seven-year deal at the Pies.

So De Goey will likely wait until late in the year to assess Grundy’s position, aware he could maximise his own worth if the Pies ruckman moves on.

Like almost every Pies player, De Goey is keen to remain at the Pies but also intent on maximising his worth.

Ideally after signing a two-year deal on little exposed form he would next sign a new long-term deal of up near $1 million a season and establish himself as a one-club player.

Moore finished the year in fine style with six contested marks in the qualifying final and 17 mostly excellent games despite another hamstring scare.

His manager Liam Pickering admitted last week the trio of stars coming out of contract complicated contract talks at the Pies next year.

“We’ve spoken to Collingwood a few times through the course of the year. We would like to see what they are thinking going forward. They have a decision to make on not just Grundy and Darcy but Jordan De Goey and Scott Pendlebury is out next year. So they have some big players coming out at the end of 2020. We want a lay of the land of where they see Darcy fitting in with all that.”

De Goey signed a two-year deal for somewhere below $800,000 for the 2019-2020 seasons as he knocked back a massive $5 million, five-year offer from North Melbourne
Can’t see the relevance of including Pendlebury in that article other than to stretch the argument. Is anyone stupid enough to believe a 32 year old Pendlebury will hold the club to ransom? I’d expect a significantly reduced wage.

A 5-7 year contract to Grundy or Moore/DeGoey also allows us to backend the salary.

Thomas is significantly more valuable than Cutler and Howard is significantly more valuable than Scharenberg. Those trades don’t get done without picks being involved. Actually they’re unlikely to get done, period.
That's not how it works, all the trades proposed in this forum will get done, what planet are you on?

If we have not got anyone better to replace cox with, and we haven’t as now, no deal. And please people Darcy Cameron is no we’re near it as a replacement.

He's already said on his podcast anyway that he was one of the players who took a pay cut.

Casboult would be an upgrade
If he could kick. Would still in the market for a tall next year.
The guy can mark, played ok this year down back, but would be a nightmare as a forward.

we all know ned guy wants to get us back into the first round. if he trades cox for a second round pick no doubt hed use that pick in a bundle to get a late first rounder.

the funny thing is cox has problems because we just sit it on his head and he has blokes hanging off him, but essendon is worse
their whole game plan is saad and mckenna running off half back just bombing it into the forward line

Given how often Cox goes for a mark with only one arm raised, we should check the availibilty of the statue of liberty..

Could play a similar role.

The difference is we move it around the gibraltar straight first before going forward in at least 2 sometimes 3 out of the 4 quarters.

Essendon have their flaws but they attack with pace which means more likely for 1v1s or space to lead into.

Wasn't he one of those rucks injured?

You know we are talking about Mason right, not Dean? Mason was beaten about 10 times in one game by James Sicily who is 189cms.

If Cox is traded for a pick can we atleast have the pick converted from a USD to AUD ratio in terms of value 😂.

If Cox goes we have to sign a tall for next year, be it a big fish, Janekins. I mean if the injury gods give us a good run we can probably have a year with a small pressure forward line.

Other options are Howard in and Moore goes forward or Reid is relied on.

Bit hesitant on both options. Haven't seen enough of Howard, but I feel with roughead being an anchor down back, having a tall who is (by tall standards) quick and has the ability to read the game that can't be taught, I'd hate to lose even 1 of those attributes. If Howard's slow (again, no idea) makes it impossible for Shaz to fit into our 6 I think.

Reid is obviously a huge risk to rely on. If he fluked an injury free season id back him in to be dangerous. His best football, albeit down back and a long time ago, was A grade. Players don't lose the talent overnight
