At 27 for Bennell with constant soft tissue issues it’s certainly short term. Murray is potentially long term but most clubs have figured out his party trick now. I’d be surprised if he plays more than 50 games for them tbh.
You're probably right, Melb hav'nt committed to either player yet but I just think good on them for having a go

People more than happy to kick Murray to the curb when the ASADA ban was first announced but now that it's expiring and an oppo club is showing an interest suddenly we'll rue the day that we let him go.

He made his decision. Good luck to him, but clearly there's a reason we didn't extend him beyond his original contract with us.

You could be right, whenever I watch Brisbane he gets a lot of handball receives and bursts away from packs.

I haven't followed him that closely either, but from what I've seen you're right, like most of the best mids, he gets the footy in his hands any which way you can. Gets it in tight. Gets it on the spread. Just gets it a lot. So yes he's an outside receiver, but he's also a ball winning inside mid. We tend to call these guys inside mids rather than receivers - probably because receiver often has a negative connotation - some do refer to them as inside/outside mids, but it's a bit clunky. I personally think they should be referred to as bloody good mids.

* Added in a little to your comment above - his most glaring weakness is his inability to kick the ball more than 40m on a perfect day for football.

He's potentially that annoying, nippy type of small forward but he hasn't quite figured out how to get himself in the right spots to impact contests consistently yet.

Needs to find a bit of poise in traffic as well especially inside 35m where he tends to snatch at - if he had Daicos' poise and disposal (or vice versa in terms of Daicos' having Brown's running and grit) then we'd have a player on our hands.

Young Josh may be a bit further back than Callum at the moment, but ultimately I still think he (Josh) is the one that makes it out of the two of them.
I think Josh but why not have both

I would rather both of them over Broomhead and Reid, great thinking by the Dee's, so many self righteous people out there, I bet both will make them eat their words.

Rather a no dickheads policy. Got nothing to do with self righteousness and everything about improving your chances of winning. We are unlikely to be better placed with Bennell and Murray on our list.

Had Murray already on our list

This is quite an interesting article about player wages

From afl.com.au (20yos on $500k). A few interesting outtakes:

"Clubs tend to spend more of their salary cap on their top-liners and high draft picks, with several sources saying about 80 per cent of the cap goes to the top 15 or so most valued players.

"Experienced players are often left accepting base payments between $125,000 to $150,000

"It is now commonplace for first-round draft picks to re-sign on lucrative deals – often within their first season – with sources saying the going rate starts at $350,000 and typically goes up to $500,000.

Of course this is still somewhat speculation, but goes against what many here seem to guess regarding player payments.
Some other interesting things in there too. Was a surprisingly good article I thought - didn't expect much from the headline... reverse clickbait?

Can someone clarify for me, please- can ex-AFL players be picked up in the mid season draft? Eg let’s say a player like Goldy who got delisted/ retired and let’s dominates in local competition

They can be picked up, pretty sure a couple were in the one this year.

My understanding is yes, but you’ll never see a player that retired being drafted that way so not Goldy. You’re more looking at Mastern or Walker because I’m confident you need to be overlooked in a recent draft to be eligible.

In this dog-eat-dog (football) world we live in I'd bring Greene on board - a player like him who takes the game on and can put a team on his back both in the midfield and up forward may very well have won us a flag in 2018 when we were desperately in need of someone to stand up and be counted in that last quarter.
So what you’re saying is, Greene has a good kick? 😳😜

Must be something more (obviously is). Not saying sinister but more. We kept Thomas and Keefe on our list longer.
