Some campaigner on fox footy tonight said hes heard that Richmond's view is that Bombers are at the front of the queue for Harley Reid for a deal getting up toward $2mill a year....
Yeah this was Tiger71 and Grockadoc main concern, was always Essendon and them offering bat shit crazy $$$ that we won’t go near.

They are desperate to land someone of note.

Essentially if Richmond and Essendon were both paying the same amount (our amount, not $2mill) than I’d comfortably say Richmond would be ahead in the race.

But yeah not at that price tag!

There is no way Richmond will get rid of Hopper or Taranto unless they decide to leave. Culture destroyer !!
If we do that good luck getting another free agent coming to the club.
It doesn’t really work like that. Do the names Grundy and Treloar ring a bell? Players are still falling over themselves to head to the filth.

And both Grundy and Treloar were desperate to stay.

Things change quickly. People forget. ATEOTD money, opportunity to play preferred position, environment, on-field success and big crowds is what players want…. they couldn’t give 2 x sh*ts if Hopper left for another club - he still gets his money and probably leaves for greener pastures. Shit happens. Things change.

If it was all about success then how do really sh*te teams retain majority of their players throughout their career?

This is what i don't get about the Reid to Richmond rumor

Why would Richmond be appealing to Reid coming from a club thats Rock bottom to another club thats in the same position
The only thing that has Richmond in the picture is the picks we have and ability to get the deal done but that is not a major concern for the player.

Reid would be selecting a team thats is either 'In the window' Paying the most or the club he supported and Richmond is none of the above unless we decide to pay a sh!t load of $$$$ which would be absolutely mad

The way I look at it is this. 2025 looks like a weak draft, with seemingly little confidence of any ‘safe bet’ elite stars, even at #1 or #2.

Let’s say you put Harley Reid into the 2025 draft mix.

Would you trade picks 3 and 4 for pick-1 in order to secure H Reid? Or would you select let’s say Fred and Sharp?

There’s not a chance in a million years a team with #1 would trade it for 3 and 4 in the year Harley Reid was available at #1. And in this years weak draft there’s even less chance a team would do it.

In fact, in Harley’s draft year Demon’s offered WC pick 6, 11, 42 and a F1 and were turned down.

Of course there’s the financial commitment you don’t need to make when you take the 18yo compared to prizing Reid away in a trade is a factor.

But let’s not get all warm and fuzzy about keeping 3 and 4 and bypassing Reid, as once again, if Reid was in this years draft as a clear #1, every list manager in the country would trade 3 and 4 for #1 to get him. And Eagles would tell you where to go - as they did to the Demons offer of 6, 11, 42 and a F1.
It's certainly an interesting discussion as to whether we go all in on Reid or play the patience game and continue to build our depth with another 2 top 3-5 picks this year and another likely top 5 pick next year before we start hunting ready made talent from 2027 when Tasmania starts to impact the young talent.

For me I'm not one who sees Reid or Sharp as must haves. I believe that with the likes of Lalor Smillie and McAuliffe as young big bodied mids we'll be set for those types especially while we've also got Taranto and Hopper in the mix as well. That is why I'm hoping that the likes of Lindsay Grjl or Fred find their way to Richmond at years end as they give us the outside class we're lacking at present, could throw Duursma into that mix but I'm not sure he gets past WCE if they have 1 & 2 and keep Reid.

I’m of view we add 2 more high end talents then in next couple of drafts we go hell for leather on trades and FA . Worth noting there is diminishing returns adding too much youth as you can only play so many , already we see several on the sidelines we’d like to see in seniors , adding another couple a top end pics will only lengthen that queue

Think we'll see a major adjustment to the balance of the list come the end of the year, with some excess KPP and small/medium types being moved on through trade or delisted, which will open up opportunities for the younger crop and also give the VFL side better balance and structure to aid in development.

You’re thinking of the very now.

The sell is about the medium to long term vision.

Facilities, big crowds, young exciting list to come through with to create your own history, mentor by dusty. Etc.

I’d say Essendon are less appealing than us in those stakes

We still get 2 x top 5 picks if we get Harley, he is a top 5 pick, we just won’t get the third. Plus he’s 18th in league for bounces per game, he is a natural line breaker as much as an inside mid. He also goes at 65% kicking efficiency, Neale and Heeney go at 61 and 59% respectively for comparison, so he’s pretty darn good for an inside mid.

Fred is far more inside than out, he had 9cp out of 17 on weekend and 6 tackles. That’s why he sucked for academy as he was playing pushed to flanks. I also have concerns on his pace or Duursma and Onley are bloody fast as they swallowed him up twice on weekend.

Grlj as much as I love him isn’t a great kick, but is also a natural like breaker. He loves a tackle and has a great inside game.

Lindsay imo is blowing up because of how shallow the draft is. He is great by foot (despite some shocking turn overs vs WA) but he isn’t a midfielder.

Why would Harley come to us at 20 but Butters would definitely want to come at 25/26 🤷🏻 ;)

The huge unfairness has clubs like gcs by 2025 draft with over 10 academy players on its list-most high picks plus gun Victorian kids plus a gun Melbourne nga-and this skyscraper 1 sided advantage can't continue.
GC still hasn't even played finals yet.

Even if they end up with excesses of talent, the salary cap will do its job to equalise things and the smart clubs will be waiting to benefit.

Remember when GWS had so much talent they were guaranteed to win multiple flags?

Assume he's including West Coast compensation pick + Annable and Uwland as academy talents + someone else, and saying we are getting the 6th or 7th best rated players in this draft pool.
no chance

no chance
What is no chance?

We are likely getting the 5th and 6th rated players. So he's not entirely off. Just whether those academy bids become before or after us whether our 'pick' slides.

We would definitely be drafting Annable and Uwland if we could.

why finish bottom 4 if you get shite picks like 6 and 8

Um. We aren't finishing bottom 4 by our choice lol.

It's not our fault the Weagles captain is going to give them pick 2, and Annable and Uwland are tied to Brisbane and Gold Coast - we are going to get the 5th best and 6th (Assuming North finish 16th) players in the draft.
