In fairness, most clubs who have shown an interest in kelly would have no idea if they were in with a chance right now.
Seems to be holding his cards close to his chest
I say he's waiting to see if the Giants win the flag. If he wins a flag his goneski imo he'll get more money a premiership player.

If true, Brisbane better be prepared to cough up. I'd imagine we'd be offering somewhere in the 400-500k range, so if they're offering double that makes him worth a first round pick, given there's will either be Pick 1 or Pick 2 that's the price. If necessary we send our 2nd to make it more balanced.

Hanley plays for Gold Coast now.
Nah - My guess is Essendon is offering around 250K or definitely less than 300K - Posted in the McKenna thread that you have to pay the overseas players their full market value - See Tuohy walked after being low-balled by Carlton and Cox has stopped negotiating with Collingwood - The McKenna situation is no surprise.

Yep, they can't screw him around.

He doesn't have the passion for the game or understand the traditions like our players. He just wants the money. I wouldn't usually advocate paying overs but he's a special case.

They better pay him because we can't afford to let him go.

If you're living over the other side of the world, do you care if you're playing a few suburbs across? Plus they're hardly going into the media or old-boy network after they finish. Just building a nice nest-egg before moving home to Ireland.

we have a lack of runners off half back. less so when McGrath turns into a midfielder.
can't see us not getting a deal done and he should get a decent return for himself.
form has been unreal.

Geelong confident of getting both Devon Smith and Hopper according to Sam Mclure.

Why aren't Essendon doing the same? I feel the club is all talk and no action when it comes to chasing players like Kelly,Hopper etc

We are no talk for the whole year in regards to trades and it isn't till actual trade week that we make our intentions known. As do most clubs its mostly media linking players. don't be fooled we would be putting in a lot of work into opposition guns.

Hope you are right but just feel that every year when we do target some one it just ends up in disappointment.

He is. Dodoro and co don't just turn up at the end of every season, he's a full time employee dedicated towards scouting other players, talking to their managers and preparing reports for the Senior Coach.

Who is an example of somebody we have targeted?

Media linking a player to the club is not targeting.

We got Stewart last year and nobody knew anything about it until it happened.

I know we were very close to getting O'Merea the last big name recruit we got was Goddard.
To be fair the supplement scandal does make it rather un-appealing for clubs to want to come over. With a return to the top 8 and the scandal behind us im sure more players will be open to coming down especially after seeing guys like Green and Stewart quickly come into the side. A player like Hopper or Kennedy could see a lot more opportunity with us and take intro account us being a big club with great facilities and getting the big games. A lot easier for our recruiting staff to sell success now.

Assuming we play finals and put in a decent performance, this will be the first off-season in almost 5 years we will be a somewhat attractive proposition for free agents and players looking to return to Victoria.

Shane Crawford claiming that Lachie Whitfield will be playing at the Hawks next year even though he has a year remaining on his contract.

Not sure how they get the deal done considering they don't have a first rounder. Hopefully we are looking at him.

Crawford is a clown. For that matter, anyone claiming anyone will be playing at another club this time next year is.
Hawks could trade their 2018 1st but it would need to come with someone. And if i was GWS, i'd be asking for Burton or Smith.

Not sure GWS will lose too many.
Even if they win a flag, they're on the cusp of a dynasty.
Smith, Hopper, Kelly, Whitfield - really can't see them leaving just yet.

I actually think Whitfield would be a great one to target.

They have so much depth that somebody like Whitfield I doubt would be on huge money. A former number 1 pick that has already performed up to a very high level he could certainly get more money at an opposition club.

I agree with you on the Crawford comment. I doubt player managers would be leaking information to him.

Small-Medium forwards are the least of our worries. Highly doubt we'd even entertain the idea
We've got a guaranteed 4 list changes already and we're likely to lose up to another 6/7. If he's available and will only cost money I wouldn't say no to bringing him in. Would allow Walla and Fantasia to spend more time up the ground and is a tough match up inside 50.
