Wouldn't have thought they could afford him? Ablett coming in and they'll likely have to give up their 2nd rounder to make it work, then there's his salary (which is supposedly still around the 800k mark).

Geelong are one of those clubs that will struggle to make many deals this year, as per Hawthorn, Collingwood, etc.
Geelong wouldn't be paying Ablett even close to 800 if he plays there

So Kennedy seems way down the pecking order at GWS going by the latest teams.

What is his worth in a trade?
I would give up our first for him (he went in the 10-15 range of the draft 2 years back) and has shown he can play against men (not like the no-tagging TAC).

Do you think he would look better in the No.4 or No.5 guernsey??

I suspect Hopper goes anyway. I think he recognises that he may not always be assured of a spot at GWS and the pull to come home would also be a factor.

I won't be surprised if GWS have a bit of a fire sale this off season to keep the top end talent satisfied. They will keep the Taranto's and Setterfields of the world because they will be on small contracts and then the Hopper's, Smith's and such will be on the table.
I agree. He's unlikely to get regular midfield minutes at GWS at this stage, and that will stunt his development if it continues any longer.

Whitfield - Hawks for 2018 1st & GWS' 2nd
Smith & Hopper - 2018 1st & Carlton's 2nd rounder
Kelly - Saints for 2017 1st and Hawks 2017 1st
Kennedy & Carlton's 2017 2nd - Essendon for 2017 1st.

They would still like up as:
Wilson Haynes Tomlinson
Williams Davis Shaw
Coniglio Ward Duncan
Lobb Cameron Greene
Lloyd Patton Deledio
Mumford Ward Shiel
PLUS
2017 - 3x 1st round picks, 3x 2nd round picks
2018 - 2x 1st round picks

and a hell of a lot of cash to go hunting players with.
I might be wrong but I don't think Hawks can trade another future 1st Round pick can they? Having traded away their 1st Rd Pick for 2017 already.

Didn't stop them last year. And the AFL have conveniently decided not to start enforcing future pick trading rules until 2019.

Your right...except when the AFL has a habit of making up rules on the run to look after their two clubs. Don't think Whitfield will go (this year)...he owes the club after they tried to cover up his indiscretions for him so he will see out his contract.

Is that meant to be Mitch Duncan? Has that been talked about in the media?

Why would he recognise that when he established himself as best 22 last year and has played whenever he was for this season?

If Hopper moves it won't be because he is concerned about opportunity.

Geelong have a pretty good reputation for getting deals done.

Because both Taranto and Setterfield are far more talented and will be considered the future of the club.

As all these young guys develop they will want payrises to match their talent which means that GWS will have to continue to turn the list over to accommodate the stars.

The best way to do that is to trade the guys like Hopper that have talent but more importantly currency. Hopper is playing but I'm sure he recognises that he may never be given the opportunities to play the role that his talent probably deserves. At Geelong he could be a permanent fixture in midfield and most likely take over from Joel Selwood in a few years.

Hopper has shown more at AFL level than Taranto or Setterfield. Hopper is the only one of the three who is best 22 at GWS. 'Far more talented' is far from accurate.

If Hopper leaves it won't be because of a lack of opportunity that doesn't exist.

Hopper is a nice player but they are dime a dozen.

Hopper having "shown" more at AFL level doesn't tell me much considering none of the three have played much footy.

Non that play Essendon
I wouldn't be surprised if the club has said to the remaining out of contact players, look we have a string of upcoming retirement announcements beyond the normal so just hold off and we will have a bit extra space in the cap for you and a big name.

Looks like Dusty will be either at Richmond or North next year, I would be surprised if North were able to land both Dusty and Kelly so Kelly may remain at the Giants or who knows where he will be.

Hooper to Geelong plus Gaza will pretty much be Geelong's focus plus wanting to hit the draft for a few good young kids, they already have a good forward line and midfield so probably wont need to add much if they get Gaza back although that isn't certain.

Their forwardline is probably the iffiest part of their side, seems like there hasn't been much consistency of selection as far as the blokes selected to play there for them though that may be down to injuries more than anything else.

If I were the Cats, I'd forget about adding another inside mid and look to add outside speed and class as well as some speed from half back. Looking at their side for this week they've named a very tall and fairly slow starting six down back (4 players 190+ cm and Kolodjashnij on the bench who's 193cm). If they were to go for any of the OOC guys from GWS, imo their best bet would be Smith.

So according to the media GWS are going to lose: Kelly, Hopper, Whitfield, Smith, Kennedy and they are going to be happy to accept 2nd rounders for most of them...yeah sure they are! It's 2017 not 1995 when you could package up Ridley&Delany and get a jet in return.
If any club is going to be raided it will probably be the Gold Coast because everyone would be looking to get out of that train wreck of a club.
Well if this is the case then GWS need to win the 2017 or 16 Premiership - Otherwise they'll have gaps in their list.

Nah - Comparatively Taranto has shown lots more than Hopper - Setterfield missed nearly half a year with injury.
