You were the one that brought it up from memory, but the media profile players get from our club compared to Norf and Brisbane is worth more than the extra 50-100k on its own, and then you throw in strong bonds, moving interstate or to a bottom 2 club from an already promising situation. Unlikely to demand that money, 250-300k for mine.
You are completely off the mark - There is no guarantee McKenna will stay in Australia after his finishes his AFL career, so post-footy opportunities don't mean as much to him - Mckenna is a third year player like Laverde and Langford who are both on around 300K - McKenna is better performed at this stage, so 250 to 300k is way off the mark - I'd be happy to give him around 400K x 2 years.

Poor form by some to have a go at Big Dog - He kindly posted information which he/she thought to be correct - And it's been verified by FOJ1 who usually has inside information.
His/her first post was simply "McKenna will not be at Essendon next year" which was not the full and accurate information he/she had, and was obviously designed to antagonise. I'm unsurprised people were antagonised.

Only McKenna and to a lesser extent Baguely left to sign up for next year.

Rest can make calls at the end of the season.
Green you'd want a medical to be confident of full recovery considering it is the second time this has happened to him (once on each foot). Probably gets another 1 year deal.

Club should be in a strong position to know how much it can throw at trade targets.

Had not thought about him until you posted his name.

From the little I've seen of him I've always liked him, he's a bull.

I reckon that he's the sort of player that we should look at especially if he wanted a fresh start. Certainly couldn't hurt to have some ready to go midfield grunt in reserve.
A lot of the GC board think he will be delisted. I'd give him, say Hockings spot on the list for a year as a DFA

Doesn't lock anyone down, sometimes kicks it good, not guaranteed to hang around, why would anyone pay him that far overs? 250-300k is fair for Conor and what he brings.

Although you're probably right and we do get held hostage because he's fast

There is a delicious irony in part of this post.

Lever doesn't play 1v1 and in many respects he is a tall version of the same thing. All he does is cut the ball off and he's not really that good a contested mark. He's basically a slightly better Matt Dea.

McKenna is already as important a player as we have.

Would be interesting to plug Lever into our current system, we'd have to make a couple of changes to get the best out of Lever

Its hard enough to get Afl standard players through the draft as is but a free hit like McKenna is worth gold.

If we lose him for nothing the its business as usual. We cannot afford to lose a best 22 player unless they are replaced by 2 genuine best 22. We have about 10 spots to fill to become a genuine flag chance

Of course clubs are circling. They would be professionally negligent not to ask the question and poke around. And as a professional he has every right to listen to what they want to offer him. He too would be silly not to.

But listening is different to entertaining them. I fully suspect that as long as essendons offer is relatively competitive to outside offers then he will stay.

FB: 1 - Patrick Ambrose - 2
HB: Conor McKenna - Michael Hurley - 3
C: David Zaharakis - David Myers - Zach Merrett
HF: James Stewart - Joe Daniher - Anthony McDonald-Tipungwuti
FF: Orazio Fantasia - Cale Hooker - Josh Begley
R: Tom Bellchambers - Dyson Heppell - Darcy Parish
I: 4 - 5 - 6 - Andrew McGrath

1 (Intercept 3rd tall) - Francis/Ridley/Gleeson
2 (Lockdown small defender) - Baguley/McNiece/Morgan
3 (Medium sized back flank) - Ridley/Gleeson/Redman
4 (Big-bodied mid that can rotate forward) - Langford/Laverde
5 (Big-bodied mid with athleticism) - Laverde
6 (Wing that can also rotate into the forward line) - Colyer

Those are the holes in our side for mine. Some of them we can fill to a degree with players already on our list, but 4/5/6 are where all our efforts in trading and drafting should go IMO.
