Restricted free agents were 8 years at one club, unrestricted were 10 years. I guess they all become unrestricted at 8 years now, which is the end of the year they turn 26 at the earliest?
Any players lost through free agency resulted in a compensation pick if the net loss was greater than the net gain. The only difference with restricted free agents was that their original club had the right to match the offer and force the player to request a trade if they really wanted to play elsewhere.

Probably better that way to be honest, players can move freely to their club of choice (it's up to them whether they wish to move via a trade or not now).
