Very much a one-way attacking player though, not all that accountable when defending.
A lot of teams have players like that, McGrath is a special case being able to do both but he went at Pick 1 and should end up a much better player than JJ. I do like JJ for his strengths but giving up a 1st round pick to go with his price tag isn't something im keen on but would he improve our side? Absolutely he would. If I was spending that money and getting rid of our 1st it would be for Hopper

Who on our list right now would be worth a straight swap for future 1st round? Wouldn't mind having 2 in the first for the '18 superdraft and back dodo and the boys to come back with something a little better than Shane Harvey and Simon O'Keefe... 2001 was far from super for Essendon.

Maybe Langford or Laverde with a 17 second for more experience and a future 1st.

Seriously doubt the club has plans for L&L anywhere but at Essendon.

Laverde and Langford are required players. Unless they want out, they won't be traded

Redman + 17 2nd?
Even if we could convince GWS for Kennedy and Hopper + future 1st, for our first and second this year (get their points back to afford their academy kids) + Langford/Redman. Both guys high 1st round picks and would be better than most we'd be looking to draft with those picks. Not sure why Kennedy can't get a game with so many injuries.

Kennedy only gives up 3cm to Langford and is already what we want Langford to develop into. He'll be a gun. (Ranked 3rd among rising stars in Clearances per game. Ranked 3rd among rising stars in Contested Possessions per game. Ranked 1st among rs in Tackles pg. Ranked 7th among rs in Contested Marks pg. Ranked 9th among rs in Effective Disposals pg.)

On another note, Port have to resign a fair chunk of their backline and with about 5-6 players taking up the majority of their cap (boak, dixon, wines, wingard, lobbe, Ryder?) I don't know how much port would have left to match an offer for Trengrove or satisfy Ebert and Pittard at the same time.

Would love to put an offer to Trengrove as a RFA and see what they do. Ebert over Pittard to replace Jobe for the immediate future. Could be made easier having the legendary coach who drafted you on one side and then Ken Hinkley on the other. Decision made right there for mine.

Throw a 4th to freo for Balic and a 3rd to the dogs for Webb.

How many more games before McKenna is at his level?
I would argue McKenna's last 5 games have been better than Johanissen's, and he's younger and evidently a hell of a lot cheaper. As I've said before, JJ is going to want '**** you money' because he's got a premiership and a Norm Smith, when the reality is it's 9 months later and he's dishing up 1 and a half good games a month.

Apart from 'being in the right age bracket' I can't think of a single reason we should do this deal. Wrong price, wrong position, wrong bloke.

Is Parish OOC? Would love him up here in Brisbane. Pick 1 for him?
would be the deal we'd ask for, but i'd hate to lose him, even for a pick like that
He's a known quantity now. We know he can play and he has been getting better the more he plays.

Hoping he is announced around the time Daniher is also announced

I like the idea of a 4th for Balic. Even a 3rd, then try swing the 4th to Adelaide for Wigg.
I don't think ebert is that much of a necessity. We have Myers, Howlett & Hocking as older big bodied mids. Goddard looks to have another season or even 2 in him, and we are going to feel pressure for spots soon enough if Laverde, Mutch, Begley and Francis all start clicking. All are quality hard at it players who can play the Watson/Goddard roles when required.

Redman is an interesting one. Versatile as a wingman/HFF or running HBF.
but really hasn't done too much to date to tempt suitors, and we reached for him.
Langford is not worth giving up. Kid oozes class.

I know Mathieson is always in his ear telling him to come up here... they have a strong bond and everyone knows fishing and outdoors lifestyle is better up here in QLD. ;)

I think Ebert's underrated in vic a lot of port supporters have him or Trengrove ahead of Boak as captain. Consistent, hardly injured and he just turned 27. Myers has never shown he's capable, Howlett and Hocking both over 30.
Happy to send Redman + our 1st and 2nd this yr to west Sydney for Hopper and Kennedy + 2018 1st + swap of future 2nds?

I rate Ebert. But reckon he'll be pricey to get, nor do i think he'll leave Port (given he left Woosha to go there)

Redman and the pick swaps for Hopper and Kennedy and their 1st next year i would do in a heartbeat. draft picks are speculative and Kennedy and Hopper have been broken into AFL life.

What we end up with though is a lot of competition for spots (and cash)

What makes you think Ebert could find himself at our club?
Coming OOC with the rest of those mids and players I mentioned likely on phat contracts and SPP developing. They'll put him on a big deal to keep him in SA. More obvious priorities ahead of re signing Ebert and he could want out. Without allowing CBA levers locked Hooker on 750k a yr and Hurley on $4m over 5. Average compared to their worth now. We'd have a decent sized chest to go after someone big and cover possible retirements/delistings well.

Ebert's just a name. More to debate it than to try and pretend I've got a crystal ball.

Yeah, I like him as player and we certainly need depth.

The Ebert name is strong with that club though. And I just can't see him moving to Melbourne when he's only just had a baby.

It may happen but I just think it's highly unlikely.

The more I think about it, the prospect of Johannisen really could not excite me any less.

We don't need him positionally, and he'd cost off the park too much for how good he actually is.

Tom Lynch is OOC next season and with the rules the way they are now, he's an unrestricted free agent (i.e no trading)

Yeah totally agree. If we are going to pay up big we need someone that really addresses our needs not just a better player in a position we already have fairly well covered.
