One of the biggest pick 2 **** ups since Kosi

Or Luke Ball before Judd. Take ur pick st Kilda.
GWS could afford to pick for need, it was quite obvious at the time that O'Rourke and Plowman weren't the 2nd and 3rd best players in the country.

Even at the time I said it should have Whitfield, Grundy and Stringer

Not keen on JJ at all, if we want to throw coin at a half back I'd go Saad. Imagine him and McKenna of each flank.

After Friday night I think one of Kennedy or Hopper is a must target

I think our backline is solid and has a bit of depth too. No to JJ.

I'm still a fan of Kelly.

Ridley and possibly Morgan, maybe even Mutch could slot into half back in next season or so. Ambrose to come back, McKenna huge leap in development.

Do we really need a half back who's an average defender?

We need to focus on a couple of inside mids.

2000, 01, 02 they had 4 top 3 picks, two pick 1s, 3 picks inside 15 for the superdraft.
They drafted for a dynasty and didn't even win one flag.
And got 4 players that carved out 200+ game careers for them, one that played nearly 150 for them and were a very good side for a few years where they played in 3 Grand Finals, and were a bad bounce away from a flag. Stop trying to make out that is was a blunder when it clearly wasn't.

...and picked up both Raph and Xavier Clarke inside the top 10 in 3 years. Stop defending shit teams. They clearly cocked it up while Hawthorne and the cats won 7 flags in 9 years. With the picks they had it should've been them. Who gives a **** how long they gave them to try and do it.

The "shit team" that dominated most of '09 and could've just about pinched '10?

Top end talent is evident in every team/club

Its the bottom 6 players that make/break good sdes.

St.Kilda had a solid system to which the players bought in and the overall results as evidemced by eth shows, was quite good

OK here is my Ladder prediction (which is important when considering draft and trading)

We are a tough mid short. Getting Dusty as a free agent would cure that. As well as fit and inform Myers. This would allow Goddard and Watson to still be in the team, but playing lesser roles as they are phased out of the side over 2018 and 2019. If Laverde can play some VFL at the backend of this season and he and Langford are developing fringe next year then that allows us to rotate them in and out of the side with Goddard and Watson.

Baguely has been very good over the last month so I think we can look at a draft pick or young VFL player to be developed for that role. If Luenberger is still around we have some ruck depth, but need a developing ruck. Francis getting fit will be a boost for our backline too. He and Hurley in combination will be a freak show, and Hartley being able to go athletically with Franklin give me, well, a lot of heart. Brown and McKernan are good depth for KPPs.

Dusty as FA, 1 good draft pick and 2 solid ones plus a rookie ruckman, please. I think we could challenge next year, and have a list that can continue to develop post Watson and Goddard. Dusty and Watson being able to swing forward will be great for our side. Goddard and Myers being able to go back to defence or run with an opponent mid will also be great.

As we are around that mark we will have a number of solid players around 25-30 on our list that will be worth a second rounder at the trade table too. Letting two of them go every three years will keep the list renewing as well.

I was on the JJ bandwagen.. but definitely not now. McKenna has been unreal the past month. He is improving week by week. No way we pay 750/800. Rather spend that on a another Mid (preferably inside Mid)

Our inability to match the Swans mids was stark.

I know it's a long, long, LONG shot...

But I would be throwing everything we can at ollie wines next year. Out of contract in 2018.

Worth a shot, however unlikely

Yep soon as the game was congested swans got on top. We did better in the 2nd half. But definitely need to add another 1 or 2 mids. Depth is hurting us in that department atm

Agree on the mid need, imagine a Josh Kennedy in our side on Friday night, but just don't see Martin leaving Richmond as he's going to get plenty there & they look to finally be on their way. Don't want Fyfe, we wont get Kelly even if he does leave, so who does that leave? Not much.

So they made 2 mistakes out of 6 first round draft picks over a 4 year period. Given how inaccurate a science it was back then I'd say they did brilliantly.
