That's the problem all the good mids will probably go inside the top 10 it's why i think we should trade for one.
Tell that to the likes of Cripps, Merrett, Zak Jones, Fyfe, Sloane and many others that I can't list off the top of my head

Plenty of good smaller mids in this draft it's the bigger mids that will go high this year. Just watched a kid today Charlie Thompson kick 3 goals in the midfield he didn't even make the Metro squad and he looks a player

...and picked up both Raph and Xavier Clarke inside the top 10 in 3 years. Stop defending shit teams. They clearly cocked it up while Hawthorne and the cats won 7 flags in 9 years. With the picks they had it should've been them. Who gives a **** how long they gave them to try and do it.

To determine the relevance of your criticism have a look at Hawthorn's post Buddy, Roughead and Lewis first round drafting.

Birchall and a premiership ruckman in '05
'06 bust.
'07 Norm Smith medal with pick 13.
'08 Schoenmakers.. no first '09 then Isaac Smith before Burton in 2015.

Just as important as the Franklin/Roughead draft and 01 for those flags.

OK here is my Ladder prediction (which is important when considering draft and trading)

Baguely has been very good over the last month so I think we can look at a draft pick or young VFL player to be developed for that role. If Luenberger is still around we have some ruck depth, but need a developing ruck. Francis getting fit will be a boost for our backline too. He and Hurley in combination will be a freak show, and Hartley being able to go athletically with Franklin give me, well, a lot of heart. Brown and McKernan are good depth for KPPs.

Dusty as FA, 1 good draft pick and 2 solid ones plus a rookie ruckman, please. I think we could challenge next year, and have a list that can continue to develop post Watson and Goddard. Dusty and Watson being able to swing forward will be great for our side. Goddard and Myers being able to go back to defence or run with an opponent mid will also be great.

How close have you looked at our list? McNiece is the Baguley replacement, Draper is our rookie ruckman who we are developing. No mention of Ambrose at all.

We didn't have an answer for Kennedy and it was obvious. With hindsight maybe we should of dropped Watson ahead of Myers and let Myers go head to head with Kennedy as he actually could have matched him with strength.
It's why I agree with the sentiment that we need to target bull mids, but I don't think we necessarily need to sell the farm either. Wines and Ebert have both been mentioned as examples, though maybe wouldn't. Then again, money talks and it wouldn't have to be the kind of money Dusty wants. I'd even be keen on us targeting Powell-Pepper. Laverde has obvious upside but I'm losing patience with his fitness. Always seems to be injured.

What is Saad from GC's situation? I believe he would be an absolute jet in a decent team. I believe he is a better prospect than JJ and would probably come a whole lot cheaper.

450-500k and a 2nd rounder perhaps?? Somewhere in that vicinity

Apologies, Long time stalker. First time poster... Shall I attempt to maintain the status quo and throw around scenarios where we trade Aaron Francis for various GWS 1st round picks?
My apoligies. Bit testy in here today

I like Saad but not sure what is his availabilityis.

Not convinced he will be that cheap either.

Yeah, the Francis trade option is always a winner round these parts.

I haven't given up on Myers yet and think he's a reasonable chance of being a good stop gap.

Begley, Laverde, Langford and Clarke are all big units. Hopefully one or two of them develop into genuine extractors at AFL level.

Saad contracted to the end of 2018. I like your thinking but may be more pricey than we would like with a year to run on his contract.

Definitely one for next year though. I think with McGrath and McKenna playing well its not as big of a need than we though it would be immediately. I expect McGrath to end up as a mid but probably not full time until 2019 I reckon so we have a bit of time.

Now thats the sign of a true Essendon stalker... if only you'd found a way to get Dyson out of retirement and into the trade though

His defensive effort's have improved quite a bit this year, and would certainly prefer him over JJ if we insist that we still need a running HB. The passage of play against Hawthorn a couple of weeks where he made 3 great defensive efforts in a row is one of the best passages of play you'll see all season.
