His defensive effort's have improved quite a bit this year, and would certainly prefer him over JJ if we insist that we still need a running HB. The passage of play against Hawthorn a couple of weeks where he made 3 great defensive efforts in a row is one of the best passages of play you'll see all season.
Better kick too.

I haven't given up on Myers yet and think he's a reasonable chance of being a good stop gap.

Begley, Laverde, Langford and Clarke are all big units. Hopefully one or two of them develop into genuine extractors at AFL level.
I haven't given up on Myers either, but the loss of experience will hurt. I'm sure you'd have thought about how much we'll lose when Watson, Stanton, Goddard, and probably Hocking and Howlett are gone. Someone here somewhere mentioned the idea that Watson will play until 2019. I'm not that optimistic. Of those mentioned above I think Goddard is probably the only sure bet beyond this year. So while we do have those guys you've mentioned, the balance of an experienced campaigner would be beneficial. Shuey, Gaff, I don't even know who else... Gibbs?

It's why I agree with the sentiment that we need to target bull mids, but I don't think we necessarily need to sell the farm either. Wines and Ebert have both been mentioned as examples, though maybe wouldn't. Then again, money talks and it wouldn't have to be the kind of money Dusty wants. I'd even be keen on us targeting Powell-Pepper. Laverde has obvious upside but I'm losing patience with his fitness. Always seems to be injured.
I suspect we're probably going to have to bolster that area with another bargain bin Craig Bird type recruit in any event.

He's obviously not going to prevent JPK from running out of a pack with 3 blokes hanging off him but he'll make him earn the **** out of it.

I see Watson and Goddard playing 2018, that's too much experience and leadership to lose at once. Goddard might go for another 2-3. More likely to than Jobe I think.

Are there any decent inside mids getting around in the 2s?

Agree. Watson hasn't quite got the polish or grit in the middle that he had a couple of years ago yet. Not to say he won't... might still be regaining form but at this stage it looks to be a thing of the past. BJ's having a season that looks like he hasn't had to have a year off.

In our 2s or in just in 'the' 2s? In our twos I think we've actually got a couple but the issue is that they're teenagers and I'm looking to flesh out the age bracket. We've got 2 midfielders inbetween the 22 and 27 on our list, partly because we drafted a lot of defenders and talls in that period and partly because a few haven't come along as well as we'd have hoped but now we've got holes to fill.

I actually think our best bet is taking care of our own first and then trading in someone that's perhaps not as sparkly as some of the bigger names but is a really good fit and is capable of stepping up and being an experienced hand in the next 2 or 3 years. Dees did this very well with Bernie Vince.

"reports have claimed any Melbourne club would have to offer up to $1.2 million per season to entice Fyfe away from Perth."-June 3, 2017
I'd rather this than Dusty if it's going to cost 1.6m to get him to change sash.
Might be getting down towards 1m for Nat given his injuries. But they are all repairable/manageable. 2 different broken legs and bulging discs have kept him out for 2 straight preseasons. Played 5 games last year. Innocuous sternum injury before the cats. Larkins said his discs are manageable, if we get him relatively cheap at the end of the year I can see Nat Fyfe prioritising premierships over the money he's on. Just the best opportunity.

Current form probably suggests of all the melbourne clubs, Melbourne and Essendon are the best opportunities for a 25 y.o Fyfe to win. I think Dusty wants the cash or you can **** off

He is the ultimate Jobe replacement in terms of leadership and ability, I'm almost certain one full preseason and some continuity, people will remember Fyfe the Brownlow medalist.
He's only 25 wtf

Recent trade acquisition Cam McCarthy, according to Greater Western Sydney's website, has a 2cm height advantage on Fyfe

"He said he's been training with Cam McCarthy... and he said he had a couple inches on Cam," Zempilas told Radio 6PR"

"I was taller than Nat Fyfe at the last Lexus Ball and, this is no rumour, Nat Fyfe is now taller than me." Zempilas, at 194.5cm, conceded.

Bulging discs or growing pains campaigner are u kidding me please be into him

Let me start with this - I love Fyfe, I'd love to have him at Essendon.
But I'd be really worried paying $1m+ for a player with 2 years of serious injuries and a questionable back.

Who has been getting all the clearances in the vfl? Hopefully not just Bird and Hocking.

I think the fact Bird can't get a game shows that they are after a higher standard inside midfielder aswell. I would go after Rockliff for just $$$ or our first pick for Hopper.
I would hope so. They say we've got the money for it. I just wouldn't want to see it squandered for Dustin Martin who I think is asking too much and could squeeze out another player, and as JDavey mentions, Fyfe whose body's sustainability is a bit sus.

Rocky's attitude sucks from what I've read. I'm not sure what kind of player Hopper is, bar young and talented.

They might want to sort out the unit of measurement seeing as it leads to a variance of more than 200%...

Contracted I think. Don't think we need him, he's no better than what we have and it'd be cheaper to draft someone like Ferry
Just had a look on the suns board, Out of contact end this year.

He'd be a great get IMO, Think he'll become a very good football at AFL level, Gippsland lad.

It would appear that the point they're trying to make is that a couple of 'bulging discs' are actually growing pains and that at 25 years old (the article was last year, drop a quote into google and it pops up), he has grown a further 4cm. :drunk:

I see what you're getting at but there are a few factors that leads me to believe we won't get him:

1. He's finally settled into the Suns line up and allows them to play May in that 3rd tall role
2. We have 4 key defenders that you could argue are as good or better than him, most of which could stick around for 5 years anyway
3. There are other Melbourne clubs who can offer best 22 positions guaranteed. We can't do that.
