I see what you're getting at but there are a few factors that leads me to believe we won't get him:

1. He's finally settled into the Suns line up and allows them to play May in that 3rd tall role
2. We have 4 key defenders that you could argue are as good or better than him, most of which could stick around for 5 years anyway
3. There are other Melbourne clubs who can offer best 22 positions guaranteed. We can't do that.
All valid points, Just trying to find a some value that won't cost the world.

Hope we can land the Marley Williams of the next trade period, He's been a great pick up.

How close have you looked at our list? McNiece is the Baguley replacement, Draper is our rookie ruckman who we are developing. No mention of Ambrose at all.
It is weird for me to not mention Ambrose. He has been covered so well and I did forget about McNiece, which is also a weird one because my kids played at the same junior club. I am pretty ignorant about Draper.

We still need a bull midfielder who can run like Dusty. The fact he's a goal kicker is a bonus in more ways than one. It means Watson can play forward a bit and swap with Dusty. Having all of Watson, Goddard and Myers go down a rung in importance will also increase the ease with which they can perform their roles.

The way Hartley and Hurley are performing says that Francis would be surplus down back. With Ambrose absolute lock down and Hartlet number two in that role, as well as having a little extra height, releases Hurls to completely control the back half.

If Stewart keeps up his form even a fit Francis would probably not get a game up forward. Not to mention Langford and Laverde. It's a good problem to have.

Been awesome for pick 105 is more my point.
We've done ok with James Stewart I think...

To me I think we need to trade one of our backline players to get something, unsure whom and it's great we have depth but pointless them playing in the magoos (Mitch Brown, Ambrose when not injured, Dea and Hartley). All have shown they should be constant senior players and should be of value to a club like collingwood (degoey, would they look to trade after this years indiscretion?) or Sydney (Zak Jones)...

None of those players you mentioned would have near enough value to get De Goey by themselves. De Goey was a top 5 pick who has shown real promise apart from his indiscretion at the start of the year.

Hartley and Ambrose are first team players in defence, so ideally we dont want to give either of them up. Dea was overlooked by all clubs after being delisted by Richmond and only signed initially as a replacement. Brown is really the only one with value but probably not enough for de goey himself.

Brown + 2nd or 3rd rounder then maybe Collingwood pay attention. not guaranteed to let him go though.

I like having depth, Brown and Ambrose injuries meant Hartley could prove himself.

Stuffed if we got rid of Brown then Ambrose and Hartley got hurt.

Agree. Watson hasn't quite got the polish or grit in the middle that he had a couple of years ago yet. Not to say he won't... might still be regaining form but at this stage it looks to be a thing of the past. BJ's having a season that looks like he hasn't had to have a year off.
He hasn't had a year off?

If the only thing we did this offseason was deal with freo, lock Nat on a million a year for 5 to see his prime and trade our 4th rounder for Balic, wouldn't be mad at that.

Edit: can also see "head of football" Ross Lyon taking the compo he'd get from a mil Fyfe deal and going back to the draft.

Best to look for blokes that would fill roles that we aren't already stacked for mate. For mine types we don't need any more of are: key defenders and small/medium forwards.

Forwardline working the best it has in a decade and we want to trade out a part of it.

Not only is he a part of it but he is Key Forward thats 200cm tall and can run like a midfield. On top of that he's 23 and is still 3 years away from his best.

Plus Hooker is 28 and won't be around forever.

Sounds logical! lets do it!

I would be playing Stewart every game so he can eventually replace Hooker when he retires.

I would hope so. They say we've got the money for it. I just wouldn't want to see it squandered for Dustin Martin who I think is asking too much and could squeeze out another player, and as JDavey mentions, Fyfe whose body's sustainability is a bit sus.

Rocky's attitude sucks from what I've read. I'm not sure what kind of player Hopper is, bar young and talented.
Rocky's attitude sucks? Please explain in more detail.
