I think it's because the earth is slowly drifting away from the sun's gravitational pull, that could be making years longer. I'm not sure if we will fall out of orbit or if the sun will engulf us in its red giant phase. Also a possibility that the earth loses its orbital energy and spirals into the sun. Any of these scenarios playing out would be catastrophic for the club, and we're yet to see if Rutten has a plan B.
this sounds less painful than waiting for #17

that's what tanking is for
:D well, tanking the one game anyway

Tom Green is out of contract this year (Assuming he signed a 2 year initial and hasn't re-signed since)
As is Hopper.
Deal for both would be lovely for us.
Why would we want hopper. A guy that has been shown to be lazy and doesn’t run both ways, we have enough of that already. Pass

Hopper would cost an arm and a leg and as said only runs one way. Only way I would take him is if whoever trades for him falls over and he goes to the PSD (depending on where we finish).

I think Angus Brayshaw is our man, and have for a while now haha

Or we could get green and Josh Kelly. One in psd and one with picks. Just don't show any interest in the 2nd until first one signed with picks then walk the other to PSD. As both seem gettable. Although would mean a long term deal for Kelly most likely according to the Age
No to Kelly thanks. 27 next season and we’re 3-5 years away from competing at best.

I would rather not trade for anyone who will cost a pick inside the top 30 and actually just build through the draft...
My Brayshaw theory is based on Melbourne being interested in Merrett in fairness, and a way both clubs can find a way where both a fairly compensated.

If he wants success he's not going to Melbourne.

we can work with Norf (shudders) & they walk Kelly to PSD and we walk Hopper or Green there :)

Thinking of a new game day banner we can unfurl when getting pummeled at 3/4 time: "Over to you, Jackets".

Agree. Kelly is a great player but in the next two years we need to be looking at 24 and under.

Considering we're well under the cap already, half our list is out of contract (a quarter of it likely to be cut), and the most likely outcome if we finish in the bottom few is that Merrett leaves; I really hope we make the most of the "banking" rule.

"Carlton have some space, having banked money under the rules (which allow clubs to spend more than the salary cap if they underspend in the two previous seasons)"

That the broadcast agreement ends in 2024, and there'll be a new CBA is ok timing for us too.

Also, Kelly doesn't give us much of a marked difference (though does replace Merrett should he leave)
I'd rather Hopper or Green.
Hopper may not run both ways, but he's a decent big unit around the stoppages.
And let's face it, no one runs both ways at Essendon, so whatever game plan we have should suit him.

Cal Twomey saying Ham is about to sign a two year contract extension with us. Club will announce it in the next few weeks.

Pretty happy with that. Genuine AFL attributes, shown the capability to build
his body, averaging 6.5 disposals more than his first two years. Another jump in growth and we’ll have a player.

20yo who has shown signs.

2 yrs is perfectly fine given he's not shy about cracking in.

He’s a month shy of 22. Still that’s when Isaac Smith got drafted at he threw up 17-18 touches for his first two years in a team much easier to play in than us. So 16.5 ball park for a good quality winger at 22.

Seems he hasn't been around that long.
Either way, no harm in investing.

needs some carb loading.
