Where is the evidence our players took unders and wtf do people require that the recruiters get tartan ?!
He is not of the quality of a player you should get at 12 or 19. The only advantage is that he is more mature and therefore should give more immediate output , but that comes at the cost of long term output
It is a good point in that we have heard Dan suggest each player must sacrifice some cash for the greater good, however that doesn't mean we saved huge cash from what a player discounts at its incumbent club. Granted the players would get more at other clubs, but how much less than normal because they stayed?
Going to throw up what will no doubt be an unpopular trade scenario to get Yarran across the line.
We send picks 12 & 19 to Carlton.
In return Carlton send Yarran 20 & 21.
Now I know people will say that is to big a price to pay for Yarran but I look at it like this. Carlton want our first pick for Yarran and Yarran has made it clear that he doesn't want to be there next year. So we upgrade their 3rd & 4th picks in the draft to 2 picks inside the top 20. That aids Carltons rebuild while we get Yarran a best 22 player for any other team and we still get 2 cracks at the top 25 in the draft where we can still land a couple of the players that we've had our eye on.
We've invested a lot of time and effort into getting Yarran across and to walk away from the trade period without him. We bitch and moan about us not being able to get deals done but that's nothing compared to how players we're looking at next year are going to react to us failing to get a deal done. We go to them and their manager and say hey come to Richmond we'll look after you, they'll look at Richo and Blair clean in the eye and say go feck yourselves.
So as much as it might pain us to give up 12 to get Yarran we owe it to him and ourselves to get the deal done and IMHO walking away with Yarran 20 & 21 from a starting position of 12 & 31 plus a mid 30's pick next year is a pretty solid return.
I've run with Yarran and 20 for 12 for about a week now. If we did offer 12 & 19 for Yarran 20 & 21 and the Blues knocked it back they are the ones who look bad not us as we came to the table with 2 picks inside the first 20 for a player they don't want.
Richmond have refused to budge on Carlton's demand for pick 12 and have said they are prepared to let the 2pm Thursday deadline pass without securing Yarran if the Blues do not accept their offer of pick 19.
The part that worries me in that article is the fact we would just walk away, that tells me our negotiation team are a bat and ball team unless they get their own way which doesn't bode well for future trades.
Got an exam till around midday tomorrow. These arsebats better have something done by the time I get out because let me tell you, physics just ain't my thing and I'm gonna be in a shocking mood.
I'll put it another way, what happens if a contracted gun mid decides he wants to get to the tigers which has all the supporters wetting themselves with absolute joy but the club wont part with a 1st rounder instead offering two 2nd rounders as fair and we end up in a stalemate again and we say " oh well we take our picks to the draft " because if the club walks on this, get prepared for no-one to nominate the tigers next year, why would you nominate the tigers if it's not a given you will land there.
