The way he plays allows Dusty to do what he does through the midfield. We all know Dusty doesn’t defend so Graham more times then not picks up the slack. He is super important to our make up.
I think super is tad of stretch. Meatball is someone who is super important to the way we play. We could easily replace graham.

Graham was reported to have been offered $650k x 4 years by Carlton last year, and strong interest from multiple other clubs into the bargain. Not many 22 year olds get offers like that. And the reason he did get the big offers is because people at these clubs know he is both a very valuable player, and an inspirational teammate. We were very fortunate to retain him.

What really counts most with players is not how many kicks they get when the team is malfunctioning, because you are not winning anything with a malfunctioning team. What counts most is whether a player can play his role really well when the team IS functioning, because this is when you win things, or fall just short….

We often see Graham’s numbers spike when Cotch isn’t in the side (round 1 is the perfect example) this indicates that his low output games tend to be role related more than anything and by design

Will be very interesting to see if we see those numbers back up next week with Cotch to be reported to be not playing

Ok let me just ask you 1 question

Do you know anybody that knows exactly how much any afl player gets and has proof ?
Even the best reporters guess to a degree and sometimes its correct e.g tom lynch $1 mil year (but nobody has any proof of this except afl Gold Coast,Richmond & Tom Lynch) every body else is guessing
I never made a claim that I knew. You did.

Everyone has differing views on different players. When I see graham string a good couple of months together he might change my view. All I see atm though is a big lumbering 22 year old who hasn’t got the best footy brain. Time will tell.

Graham will always be a B grader. Strong and good kick. Unfortunately the game is getting quicker and he’s getting slower and that’s a big problem. Personally I think Ross is a better option.

Correct on Graham. But Ross will never be more than a B grader either. He’s another Miles, but a little quicker

Ross is about the same as Graham.Dodgy by foot.

Wrong decision offering him so much money.

Markov > Broad
Butler > Rioli
Ross > Graham

We’ll lose Ross because of Graham. Dimma loves these plodders who have been protected by a system. Once the system breaks down their lack of talent is exposed.
What a load of bs , as if markov could have performed like Broad In 3 GF that he’s conceded 1G
Butler has barely got a kick all year and had 2G after 3 games
Cool your jets on Graham , after your first two howlers you’re not getting any better

Greg beck or Greg miller
Beck to his credit could only work with what he had.
Miller on the other hand tried to be too smart.
End of the day until Gary March wised up and actually spent more money on the FD and here we are today.Another Dynasty.

The only people who would agree with you are the Richmond supporters on here who think every single one of our battlers are bonafide stars. Butler made the AA squad last season FFS. He’s kicked one goal this year, Daniel has a grand total of two. Only one of the two has been dropped though and it ain’t Butler.

You could surround Lachie Plowman with guys like Rance, Balta, Grimes, Vlastuin and Astbury and he wouldn’t concede a goal. Plus we’ve won our Grand Finals by an average of about ten goals so Broad hasn’t really had to do a great deal. People act like he’s the first player named. He was dropped last season. He tries hard, but he’s extremely limited.

Ross is a taller and faster version of Graham who can actually find the ball. It took Graham 33 games to get over 25 touches. It took Ross three. Stats aren’t everything and I understand Graham is given a defensive role, but you can do both. The best defensive midfielders don’t sacrifice their offensive games. Elliot Yeo and Jack Steele are two examples that come to mind.

And stating an opinion in which the overwhelming majority of the football community would agree with is not a howler. A howler is saying we don’t need Josh Kelly because we have Hugo Ralphsmith. One of yours IIRC?

The thing about Graham is that he works incredibly hard defensively allowing guys like Dusty to strut their stuff.

And that’s a major reason Dimma likes him so much and why Ross hasn’t cemented his position YET.

IF both turn out to be solid B grades I’ll be stoked. You need your foot soldiers alongside your elite mids

Forget the little run of injuries we've suddenly got, I reckon we need to be prepared adopt a bit more of a rotational policy amongst our players rated 15-30. We've understandably been running by an "if it ain't broke" philosophy in recent times, and it's served us really well. But if we're seriously going to sustain this dynasty we're going to need to get 30-40 games into our current fringe youngsters over the next 2-3 years.

Necessity is the mother of invention, so this week maybe the ideal opportunity to throw a handful of these young hopefuls - Ross, RCD, Martyn, Ralphsmith, Chol, Naish etc - into the cauldron, so they can all grow and perhaps celebrate the occasion together, whilst still surrounded by the likes of Dusty, Jack, Grimes, Lynchy, Nank et al. At the very least we need to find out their credentials whilst we still have the luxury of easing them out of the team if they don't improve over the next month.

Recent history has shown that the injection of some younger talent at various times, albeit very very occasionally, has actually enhanced the performance of the senior team rather than detracted from it. Let's get away from the out-dated concept of just staying in the XXII if you've played a decent game, and getting dropped if you've played an ordinary game. Let's embrace the bigger picture and integrate our young talent now.
