They could take any other number of trades but Hibberd is a really good one because it's a year old and he was a gun half back (i.e. the same position) which is an assessment now supported by his All Australian selection.
The fact that we owed Hibberd is akin to GC already agreeing to trade Saad home for cultural reasons. If they can get a first round pick on its own so be it but that's a fantasy and everyone knows it.
They pull bullshit every year at trade time.
Add to the fact that they are rejecting Geelong's offers for a 34 year old that would likely retire at Gold Coast and Matera for supposedly a 3rd rounder from Fremantle, Gold Coast are the true hard to deal with club. They were pretty good about prestia.
What looked to be a pretty straight forward second round pick is muddied for no reason.
I think GC are unfairly maligned. I understand why they were pissed about O'Meara - he was out the door 6 months before trade week, and obviously not being upfront with them about it.
With regards to Ablett - again, their irritation is understandable - the guy signed a contract, took their money, and then wanted to bail with 2 years remaining. At least from the outside, it looks like he's not been a particularly good leader and he doesn't appear as though he particularly enjoys playing for them.
What other trades have they been difficult about?
