We've had nothing but players walking out on contracts and clubs for years.

And now an employer finally tells a misbehaving employee that they'll move him if the right deal is there for them, and keep him if it's not. The industry should be applauding the dogs (and melbourne with Watts) for swinging the power balance back the other way for a change.
I do applaud the dogs for taking that stand, but on the other hand you look pretty stupid for wanting to get rid of him, now to realise he has some currency and want full price.

I said the other day that we should hold our first round pick next year but it may be time to take a risk.
We know all three players who want to get here can play. Stringer has some issues but is a seriously good player. Even if he does not reach his full potential is is a dam good player. Question is weighing up the risk out of the draft next season and if we can find someone just as good.
Devon Smith is also very good. His problem is getting into a midfield that contains First round picks everywhere and we all know what Saad can do.
IMO time to bite the bullet and pay a bit of overs to bring in 3 players who will be best 22 next year. If we have to use 11 and next years round 1 then so be it. I do not see it being a disaster and I think Stringer will settle down and can play some good footy. I also think the Dogs know this as well which is why the are back peddling a bit.
I doubt Jackets want to do it but I think it is time to take a bit less value to get these 3 into the side.

If you think about it though, it puts Stringer's value at approximately Pick 15 (which is right on the upper limit of what people seem to think he's worth). And if you consider the Dogs are probably going to drop further again without Stringer next year, it'd be close to a guarantee to be a top 10 pick.

I suppose all we'd have to do from their would be to trade our own 2018 1st to lets say the Giants for say Smith and Pick 25. That then gives us a crack at one of the gun talls in next years draft.
If you continue to think about it it's just a roundabout way of stuffing us over for the sake of it. One pick between 18 and 25 vs 2 picks in the 30s but the possibility that you completely ****it next year and we end up with a top 5 pick. It's not even a great deal for them, let alone us.

I'm happy to let this play out until next Monday, the noose is not going to get any looser.

How to sell a house, Western Bulldogs style:

"This glorious double fronted Victorian residence is located in one of Victoria's finest suburbs and has a history of housing criminals."

"The elegant block-fronted façade is matched inside with, shot windows and bodies hanging from the ceiling."

"The seller is keen to explore their options as they have become dissatisfied with their way of life in this home."

"The bidding will begin at an excessive premium price and negotiations will not be tolerated. Failure to meet unrealistic expectations will result in the seller retaining the premises, as they are happy to do so."

Yeah fair point, judging by what Damo said on Trade Radio today we're being patient on this one. I'd say we've got all the pieces in place to make it happen, we just need the Dogs to stop acting like petulant children and to just get on with it.

Exactly well put. One question will mason fletcher cost us much next year is he likely to develop into an early pick?

Can see where you are coming from ANT555 but do you think we need to hold anything back to get our midfield right (in terms of pick currency to land a big fish next year) Or are you happy with what JW seemed to suggest is our emerging midfield tallent moving forward?

Just feels like for years we talk midfielders and never quite finish the job.

It has to play out to next week now. Geelong are out of the picture for Stringer. The Saad deal will get done, it will come down to what second round picks end up where. The real issue is someone else upping the ante for Smith.
May have to be 11 for Stringer which I think is value both ways.
Next years first and some sort of pick swaps for Smith.
The best second round pick for Saad.

You also forgot to add "The owner burned it down and the frame is all that remains but as mentioned previously it's in one of Victoria's finest (and wealthiest) suburbs."

I would prefer to be bringing in good midfielders but this year there is nothing to match the over all quality of the three proven players we can get in. 11 could land us a good midfielder via the draft but with the three trades we are bringing in proven players who all will improve us.
The obvious risk is what you have said and that is maybe missing the gun mid via the draft or trade next year. It is a risk but I think with the quality coming in it is worth that risk.
There is nothing we can do now that gives us another big body top line mid for next season. Who knows what next season will bring, someone may step up, someone may want to be trade out or the hail mary event Rory Sloane comes to us via FA :D.
It is a risk, I agree that we need to improve the midfield but this year i think we need to run with the chance of bringing in 3 players who will make a difference.

Am I right in thinking that this is how the proposed SEN rumour trade (11 + 29 + Bombers 2018 2nd FOR Stringer + Dogs 2018 1st) would work out?

They can either use their 2018 1st rounder to get West and also have their 2018 2nd rounder, with us straight swapping Stringer for 11 (keeping pick 29),

OR, give up their 2018 1st with us sending pick 11, pick 29 and a 2018 2nd back in return. Since our 2018 2nd + Dogs 2018 2nd = a top 15 pick, they can then use the points from those two picks to secure West in place of their first rounder. In essence, 11 + 29 for Stringer and Dogs 2018 2nd rounder.
If so, sounds pretty fair, and would make securing Saad and Smith a hell of a lot easier.

If we can get that, great. I doubt the dogs will do it though - it’s basically Stringer for 2 Second rounders.

But those two 2018 2nd rounders turn into Rhylee West under the points system, who would have cost them their 2018 1st rounder anyway (assuming his draft value holds over the next 12 months).

What is left for Saad and Smith then? That gives us less 2nd rounders than we started with.

This is what i've been saying. My only concern is whether Smith will be a genuine midfielder or not, because i certainly don't want him as another small forward. Do you have an opinion on that?
