Thing is Melbourne would probably be happy to move him on won't cost much in terms of picks imo.
You'd be very wrong
If they want him so badly they better pay up and get him contracted, we have what’s required to get a deal done.
THey'll get it done. They have McDonald x2 and a few others as well.

Would rather take the much more talented, younger and bigger inside mid at their club in Angus Brayshaw who unlike Tyson is uncontracted.
Agree if Wines re-signs as we all assume he will, you'd have to say Angus Brayshaw would be next on the list. If he played as a full time mid (instead of as a half-back/mid) his numbers would be even more impressive than they are right now.

Didn't Melbourne get Tyson by giving up the Josh Kelly pick?
Did you also know they would have taken Jack Billings with that number 2 pick instead of Kelly? That would have been up there with picking Tambling instead of Franklin.
Where Melbourne have been good is using there 2nd round pick to target there needs eg: Hibberd & Melksham instead of using the pick on a kid who takes 2-3 years to develop.
Use the first on a really talented kid, use the 2nd on needs seems to have worked for them. I think it was a Roos tactic that has worked well for Sydney too.

Honestly Roo's did a fantastic job with Melbourne's list in such a short time, I think he made 30+ changes in 3 years. I think people forget how big of a basket case they were when he got the job at the Dee's.

Roo's built a contested ball midfield/team which is what you need come finals time which will be his true legacy.

Yep. Best thing that's happened to the club since Ron Barrassi

watched 1st half of suns v cats with my brother ( cat's supporter). Would love Touk Miller or Will Brodie from Suns in our side.
I agree re Brodie but I’ve been following Him since his final TAC cup year, and the big knock is his field kicking. As impressive as Brodie is at stoppages he does some dumb things when he has time and space... it would have been one of the main reasons he slid from being in contention for the number one pick down to pick ten (or wherever he ended up going)

These six guys would all be gone by the time we start our next real tilt (age-wise). Is it worth shopping one or 2 of them around?

Goddard - Retire

Baguley - Retire

Leuenberger - Good depth for another season I guess until Draper/Lavender is ready but also happy to let him go to find other options

Hooker - Love him to bits but could he be worth something to Melbourne now with Lever guaranteed to miss most of next season as well. Could fit into their side as the intercept defender they need to cover for a year.

Myers - Offer him to Carlton or Gold Coast as a "veteran leader."

Bellchambers
- Playing the best footy of his life right now but will be 30 at the start of next season. Would a team close to contending offer us something good for him as icing on the cake?

Obviously we would not trade both Bellchambers and Leuy in the one offseason.

I get the feeling hooker could be part of our next flag tilt has no speed to lose really so as long as he stays injury free I'd say he has quite a few good years left in him

If we move Hurley on, i'd be wanting to work it on an elite talent, even if it means we add a pick to go with him
Im not advocating moving him on after a quiet game upon return from injury, but if we did, he's coverable.
Ambrose, Ridley and Francis are decent options to hold our defence KP spots down for a good while.

I'd be wanting us to land a Shiel, Kelly, Fyfe or Macrae if we were to trade him.

No onto one will take him you would keep McKernan before leuenberger surely.
Hurley would be moved before hooker. Hurley loses too many one on one contests
Careful .
I have been told Hurley never gets beaten and no one kicks many goals on him. It is not his fault when they do either.
You would not want to be put in the same box as me. Makes shit up and has no idea.

Hurls won't be traded. He stuck with the club after the saga when he could've left and had every right to.
The fact that he stayed, won AA selection and been an important part of our defensive set up since, tells me trading him makes little to no sence.
Firstly we dont even know if Francis will stay post 2018.
Secondly Hooker is 30
Thirdly Ambrose unfortunately is prone to injury and struggles to get continuity in his games.
Ridley has a while to go yet, looks promising but needs to add some size to that skinny frame.
Goddard? Well this could very well be his last year
Hurls imo opinion still has a role to play at our footy club for some time yet.

If we have someone up for trade then it'd be one of the extra classy medium sized halfbacks. We have room for 2 of Gleeson, Ridley, Redman and Francis in the 22. One of them with first-round pick may get us the inside bull we require.

Also, I wouldn't panic about our list like some are. Over all it is very good, with one major deficiency. We have also not established a successful method so we are not capable of carrying an injured Daniher, missing Hurley or Raz. The misfortunes of this season as finally see the club promote the 3rd and 4th year players into positions of responsibility.

Also, coaching/game plan has been lacking this year. In the games we have played well we have applied top-notch pressure across the ground. However, our ball movement has been lacking and we have not been executing those quick "half-switches" that all us to run through the middle of the ground. I also think Stewart bulking up was a mistake. His number one weapon was that he is that tall and can run all day. This preseason he needs to smash the 5k and repeated 200s.

All in all, while we're asking for a bit to fall into place for us. I don't think it is a big stretch to have a fairly injury less year, a softer draw, a good draft pick and improved game plan next year. In my opinion that will put us in the middle of the 8. A season or two of that and we could see some belief that will hold us up in times of difficulty following that. I also think that if an inside mid were to come out of contract or be a FA then if Essendon has coin, it would be a very attractive proposition.

I hope this offseason we simply let players retire and go to the draft. The only trading I'd look at is if a player genuinely wants out or if a FA falls our way who fills a genuine need. In other words a bull mid or don't worry about it!
