We've seen a lot of things to like from different players recently which should give us confidence in the state of the list.

The balance of the team is looking good and it can be improved from within once we resolve issues with injury and a selection or two.

I'm much closer to being of the view that we back what we have than not.

I know this is getting well ahead of myself but we could potentially get Sloane, Brodie and Wallis for a 2nd round pick.

What a dream.

And who do they replace in the current side keeping in mind Zaharakis & Parish will also be coming back?

Our list is pretty nicely balanced when players are prepared to actually work hard and play their role.

Well straight off the bat Sloane is a big upgrade on Myers, walks straight in and immediately improves our midfield massively.
Brodie would be only 20 and just be good depth for now and be entrenched in our best 22 in coming years.
Wallis' initial role could be to rotate with stringer through half forward/Midfield and he gives us a solid inside mid for 4-5 years

Sloane is a great short term upgrade.
Brodie and Wallis shore us up for 10 and 5 years respectively.

Not important
I haven't followed Will Brodie that closely since being drafted but I'm sitting here wondering where this supposed midfield bull is and why he can't get a game in a very poor Gold Coast team?

Has he been injured?

So effectively you think a guy you rate as a young gun will come to us to play VFL, and you failed to list who Wallis would actually replace. Especially as we would now have Myers as depth (the Sloane upgrade) and so Wallis and he would be fighting it out. Statistically the two are pretty similar this year, with Myers shading Wallis on clearances and D50 work, and Wallis shading Myers on clangers (less of them), tackles and I50 work (including goals). Given the concerns being expressed is for inside work, I'm not sure why Wallis is an upgrade on Myers, who by your argument is going to be in the VFL behind Sloane anyway.

It will be interesting to see if the team really clicks for the rest of the year if the club wants to change its stance on older players with regard to Sloane. Yes, he's outside that age band we're targeting. But a RFA like him or Gaff could be the final parts of the puzzle, and let the team challenge now while Hurley, Hooker and Belly are primed. You could also then keep our first round draft pick and use it on a tall, giving ourselves a pretty good depth in most areas.

Seems a pretty relevant point....

Also, they're not usually fans of letting kids go. I assume we all remember Caddy?

I'm sure Dodoro looks further ahead than 2019 when forming a recruitment strategy. Myers is 30 next year and OOC there is every chance next year is his last. Wallis is 25, if he was to come across it would be to become an integral part of our midfield rotation until 2025. If you want a straight replacement for next year, I'm positive Wallis could play Bags current role.

Brodie is currently playing NEAFL, I'm sure he won't mind being a fringe player and playing some VFL while he develops. Tbh I can't think of a Victorian midfield he steps right into atm.

To be fair you could have said the same thing about Langford five weeks ago. Give a kid a chance to grow in an environment they suits their style and more often than not they will rise to the occasion.

I'm sure our recruiting team look beyond 2019 as well. Of course, presumably you would have signed up Sloane to multiple years to have got him to come to us, and we also have Parish, Clarke, Begley and Mutch developing. So you would be locking out 3 list spots, for a position that won't be needed in 2019, when we have a queue of young players pushing for a similar role. I personally don't think you've even looked beyond 2018 when saying you want all three.

And why do you think Wallis could play Bags role, or more importantly would want to? Clubs like Carlton, GCS, St Kilda would play him in his preferred role and probably pay him more. You think he'll come to us to be a small forward?

You don't think he'd get better opportunities at Carlton or St Kilda? Probably Hawthorn as well.

You do realise you have to entice the player, its not all about who we want?

I'd rather save the money and the list spot and take a shot on a 19-22yo mature age midfielder than go down the Wallis route. Players like Grigg, Schloithe and even a younger guy like Podhajski would all provide similar depth but would also have more 'upside' than a 26-year-old known commodity like Wallis whilst taking up half the cap space. Should be looking at the successes of guys like Tim Kelly and even Guelfi.

Also I wouldn't say those 2 have more upside than a proven AFL player recovering from a seroius leg break like Wallis. That's crazy.

They may not be the best examples, I'll admit, but I don't see Wallis providing anything other than depth and I wouldn't be wasting a list spot and ~$200,000 of cap space on the sort of player who would struggle to get a game over Myers. Liberatore would potentially offer more, providing he's fit and in a good headspace, not to mention Dahlhaus. But in my opinion, we'd be better off looking for the next Tim Kelly rather than recycling limited depth players from bottom 6 sides.

Adam Kennedy (GWS) very good again for the Giants today in a 46 point loss to the Swans. Watching it at midday, Nic Newman was also very good.

Swans assembling a very good 185 - 193cm midfield/utilities. H.Marsh, J.Dawson, O'Riordan

Kennedy playing defence or midfield? Is he still as quick as I remember him?
